Chapter 0:
RIGGED
I woke up to a thousand green lasers flashing against my face in a room reeking of mold and disinfectant, my wrists aching with a burn where something I couldn't see was biting into them. The old carpet lining the floor scratched my stockings, the hard wall behind me making my back ache.
Somewhere nearby, I heard a faucet running along with the clinking of metal. A muddy shadow crossed the light behind the half-closed bathroom door.
The rig was gone. I was back in my own body, but I couldn't move past wriggling my hands a few inches. My legs wouldn't work, and my throat was dry as a desert. I opened my mouth, but all that escaped was a weak gasp.
Before I could fully wake, I felt my memories flood back in. Every step that led me here, every mistake I could've avoided.
