Chapter 59:
Relic Raiders
Kaito asked Shen four important questions, or at least ones he viewed as such.
The first was why he made the text in the Giora ruins Japanese. It would’ve been a risk if his allies found and read it.
Shen reasoned that he knew that none of his allies, other than Henry, would even give the area around Giora the time of day. However, Henry was European and thus wouldn’t know how to read it.
“So people can be reincarnated outside of Japan,” Kaito quietly deduced.
Kaito’s second question was how they would get rid of Kouki. Even if they killed him, he would just reincarnate.
For Shen’s response, he took the time to inform everyone about the only way the reincarnated could die. If one were to die to another reincarnated, they could not return. This is why Kouki wanted the assassins to capture Kaito, so that he could finish him off properly.
“That means only Kaito, Iori, and Shen can properly defeat him,” Rina deduced.
“Wait, what!?” said Iori. “I’m not cut out to kill people.”
“If you’re lucky, they’ll just surrender, but I don’t think that’s likely,” Shen mentioned.
Next, Kaito asked what would happen after they defeated Kouki. It wasn’t an if; Kaito was confident, albeit cocky, that they could beat him.
This time, Shen hadn’t thought of an answer. Kouki was currently a placeholder king, barely managing the Kingdom of Taelesta. The one thing he was confident about was that if they failed, they would be branded as outlaws.
“But even if we became outlaws, we’d have our supporters, right?” Iori nervously asked.
“Like the people we saved at Evona’s home!” Evona shouted, alluding to the captives they saved at the Nekana Tree.
“Actually, about that…” Shen explained.
Kaede took the credit for saving all the Nekana Tree captives after the group got captured by her.
“So much for getting Chief Lyan on our good side,” stated Khrom.
“Wait! I have one more question!” Kaito announced as if he were making a grand speech. He sat in silence before asking with a serious face. “What in the world are those two doing here!?”
Kaito referred to the twin assassins casually lounging on the patio alongside everyone else.
Shen looked at the twins, then back to Kaito.
“They’ve been here since we all escaped,” Shen mentioned. “Why are you just bringing this up now?”
Kaito groaned, “I thought they were going to leave, but they seem to be getting quite comfortable.”
“We have joined the guild upon big sis Rina’s request,” the male twin announced.
“Wha— When— Rina!?” Kaito barely got his words out, shocked.
“They seem like strong allies, so why not?” Rina explained.
“Because— what happened to me being the guildmaster?” Kaito complained.
Rina didn’t answer. Instead, she discreetly stuck out her tongue at Kaito, basically saying, “This is what you get for not informing me about my father.”
Before Kaito could complain any further, the twins got up to introduce themselves.
“It’s nice to meet you all. My name is Hein,” announced the boy.
“And mine is Zinnia,” responded the girl.
“Please let us aid you in getting revenge on Kouki,” they both said and bowed in unison.
Everyone smiled and nodded. Even Kaito, who wasn’t happy about letting his killers be his allies, accepted them and their resolve.
“So, um… I actually have a question as well,” Iori announced. “If Kouki and his allies are really going to come for us, I don’t see how we’ll reach level 100 in time. How exactly are we going to defeat them?”
“Unfortunately, I agree with you,” Shen responded. “The private guild was supposed to offer more personal quests to help you level up and act as an easier access to appraisals, but we don’t have the time for that anymore.”
Estelle cockily giggled from her seat on the patio, attracting everyone’s attention.
“I think it’s my time to shine!” Estelle announced.
Estelle got up from her seat to face everyone by the patio. Lessia followed suit.
“Lessia, what are you doing?” Estelle asked.
“I wanna try too!” Lessia announced.
“Suit yourself,” Estelle responded.
Estelle and Lessia both closed their eyes and focused. Their hand faced their other hand, but not touching, as if they were charging an attack. After a bit of focus and grunting… nothing happened.
“Never mind, I still can’t do it yet,” Estelle gave up.
“Okay, Estelle… What was that supposed to be?” Kaito asked, incredibly confused.
“I was trying to activate that royal blessing I was talking about,” Estelle explained. “It’s called Level Boost, and when I learn how to use it, I can boost everyone’s levels temporarily.”
Everyone was shocked by Estelle’s sudden announcement. With the blessing of Level Boost, the group could fight against Kouki more effectively.
“Fascinating,” said Shen. “It will be imperative that you—“
Before Shen could finish his sentence, Lessia, still focusing this whole time, started glowing.
“Lessia!?” Estelle panicked.
Lessia continued to glow until her whole body was enveloped in light. Nobody could see her until the light dispersed.
Upon Lessia’s body being visible, it was well apparent she had changed. She looked older, taller, with longer hair, and… well-endowed.
Before anyone could say anything, the grown-looking Lessia shouted.
“LEVEL BOOST!”
The small light Lessia created flew haphazardly. It spiraled around until it eventually hit Kaito.
“What did you do to me!?” Kaito yelled as he glowed from Lessia’s spell.
“Celeste, check Kaito’s level,” Shen ordered.
“Understood, Master Shen,” Celeste responded as she quickly drew a magic circle before Kaito and checked his level. “It says… level 100.”
“WHAAAATTT!?” Everyone shouted.
“The child was the one who inherited the blessing,” Hein stated.
Lessia snickered, “Heh, I’m not a child anymore!”
Everyone was filled with excitement and shock. Kaito, worried about his friend, looked towards Estelle to comfort her.
“Estelle?” said Kaito, trying to get her attention.
Estelle was looking down at her hands. She seemed upset that she wasn’t the inheritor of the Level Boost blessing.
“…er’s… big…” Estelle mumbled.
“Huh?” Kaito asked for clarification.
“Kaito! Why is Lessia’s bigger than mine!?” Estelle complained about her chest size being smaller than her sister’s.
“That’s what she’s upset about!?” Kaito thought.
Estelle sighed, “My parents probably already knew Lessia inherited the blessing. That’s why they wanted me to train her so adamantly,” she deduced.
“Correct! Haha!” Lessia cockily announced.
Shen stood up and clapped to gather everyone’s attention.
“This discovery alone can bring us victory,” Shen announced. “We must experiment!”
The group conducted tests with Level Boost to determine the buff’s extent. Applying the buff to Iori, the group concluded that Level Boost raised the target's level by about thirty. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough for Iori to reach level 100, but with Kaito temporarily at level 100, he started training to use Infinity.
“I can’t get it activated,” Kaito complained. “I thought I just needed level 100.”
“It’s not that simple, Kaito,” Shen instructed. “You just need more tra—”
FWOOOM!!!
Fiona, who had been sleeping on the sidelines, started glowing.
“What the— What’s happening!?” Kaito yelled.
“This shouldn’t be possible without my doing,” Shen stated. “Don’t tell me—”
“Uh… Oh, it’s working,” a voice started talking through Fiona.
“It’s him,” Shen announced. “Kouki.”
