Chapter 9:
Sakura of the wind,Blade of withering shadow
I have only been here,
Survived,
Almost died,
And meet the greatest fascination of my life all in one day,the day after my closest friend of the world of people passed on.
One day.
It's dawn now and the way the light cascades down on us as we walk is enough to make me thank GOD for such small moments as these to save us from ourselves, torturing our own very minds with too much of simply too much everything. My lungs enjoy the hearty breath I allow in and out,in and out.Kiko is just ahead of me,she watches the Warriors back like for all the world she wishes she could reach it and pat some comfort there, knowing this though angers her more by the second so she walks on staring and silent.
The Warrior himself, stands erect as he walks,it is a quick stride but he remains mind full of the four shorter strides behind him,All I can take note of from here is how every so often he will hum that song again like before,I wonder if it is distraction he uses it for or a way to let out pain?
I know truly nothing of him,I want to focus on the slowly clearing path, take notice how we are reaching a path that if I recall the old road sites well enough will lead us in a few days to Kyoto.
Kyoto.
I,A young woman fascinated by warriors, swords, battle and men in armor am about to reach one of the most famous sites of it in history that thankfully did not occur.
Sometimes it had been discussed what would have happened if the loyalists had not won at Toba Fushimi,if the Kyoto would have been set ablaze like some fought against.
Grandmother and I debated on if meiji had never occurred and if the shogunate remained.
Lovely times we had,
"What is the matter?"
Kiko asks me,voice sweet as honey when she speaks and notes how the Warrior turns to see what is halting us.I wipe my eyes quickly and walk on a bit faster, passing the Warrior as well and only then notice that he grips something in his hand,a small vegetable of some kind.
A treat for his friend."I am sorry,so sorry...."
Running has never been a strong suit of mine but I do so quickly now, even ignoring my growling abdomen is easy as I try to rush out this quick pain wave in my heart and in my shoulder, which I only now notice is patched up.
Whoever did patch it is quite gentle and adept at it,I had no idea anything was happening from dreaming so hard.
"Stop."
The warrior is behind me now,I only realize it when his calloused hand covers my mouth quickly and a strong arm completely circles my waist.I look about to see what has him stopping me cold,my eyes are tearing up faster but I don't think I should cry here anymore.
Not now anyway.
"Tennami!'Kiko yells out, running forward and past both of us,catching us both I can confidently say unawares as she reaches the roads beginning and finding a a few broken carriages, burned goods and bodies of equal counts on each side.
Strange.
All that happens from this point is the Warrior releases me from his hold and he unsheathes his sword, taking care his mask is properly placed and he steadily walks nearer to where Kiko now kneels, finding no one or anything around save a few stray dogs,The Warrior steps towards the man who the girl is beginning to cry over,I keep my steps somewhat hesitant seeing that if anything bad happens or blood is involved I can't think straight.
