Chapter 2:

What are you doing here?

My Crush Lives On Cloud No. 9

The door swung open in a very pleasing way with only minimal sound and gave way to the insides of the house. But Michio couldn't really take in the beautiful wood flooring or pleasing wallpaper as his eyes were preoccupied with something else. Something that stood just a couple meters away in the living room. It was his roommate. But it wasn't just any random person. It was was his crush. Yoshida Aida. The girl he was pursuing for so long and that he spent his last living moments with. Michio just stood there petrified upon the discovery. Aida didn't seem to notice him at first, but when she did her reaction was pretty much the same. So both were just staring at each other in disbelief. Aida regained her composure first and upon hearing her reaction, Michio wished she hadn't.

„What are you doing here?“ she screamed from where she was standing. „It's your fault I'm here. Get out. Get out!“ Not really knowing what else to do Michio obliged and walked backwards out of the house and closed the door. Once he was outside again he thought about what he was doing and reentered the house.

„Didn't I tell you to leave? What do you think you are doing?“ the screaming continued.

„I'm supposed to live here. Sorry.“ Michios reply sounded weak, but it had the desired effect since Aida stopped in her tracks and stared at him again.

„What are you saying?“ Now she was almost whispering, which sounded a lot more scary, Michio thought to himself. „No way. No way I'm sharing this place with you.“ Now she was whispering and staring at the floor intently and Michio really wanted to escape the place, but he decided to stand his ground for now. What's the worst that could happen. He was already dead for a start.

„That's what they told me. There is not enough space in heaven and people have to share. I didn't know you would be here though.“ Michio tried to explain the situation to her.

„So this is actually hell.“ Aida whispered again. Even though Michio knew she wasn't very fond of him, his presence being enough to make her existence hell still stung somewhat.

He tried a diplomatic approach. „Look, why don't we sit down and talk about it. I don't think there is much we can do about it at the moment anyway.“ It seemed to work somewhat as she was sitting down on one of the couches in the living room and Michio took the second one that was opposite to her. He tried to read her facial expression but he couldn't really make any sense of the mixture of obvious distain and utter defeat.

„So, what do you want to talk about? Or rather, how do you want to fix this situation Hino?“ She was looking directly at him now. Maybe glaring at him would be a more apt descpription. Her beautiful green eyes were shimmering as always, but the shimmer seemed to mean death now.

„Look Yoshida. I have nothing to do with us being in the same place. I don't know what happened. But I will try to find another place. Just let me stay here for the night and hopefully I can make something happen tomorrow.“ Michio tried to explain his plan as calmly as possible, but under her still merciless glare he started to speak faster and faster until the words just came out as one long chain. „Do you hear me Yoshida?“ he tried to get trough to her.

„Oh, I hear you Hino. Loud and clear. But fine, I give you the benefit of the doubt for now. But, there is only one bedroom in this place. So you have to sleep on the couch. And that is that.“ She was still glaring, but her voice sounded somewhat lenient and Michio internally let out a huge sigh of relief. At least he wouldn't be homeless in heaven for now. „That sounds good Yoshida. It's just for one night. I promise.“ He wanted to make her feel as comfortable as possible with her decision.

„At least I know who you are. I guess it's fine for now.“ she was looking away as she said and she almost sounded almost... bashful? „Don't get the wrong idea. I still hate you and want you gone. It's just for tonight.“ There it was again. But alright, this was a situation Michio could work with.

„Thank you. But here's another question, what do you actually eat in heaven? Because I definitely feel hungry by now.“ He wanted to change the topic for now and he was actually getting hungry as well, something that surprised him. Then he could hear Aidas stomach rumble as well.

„I don't know. There is a kitchen, but the cupboards are all empty. And I didn't see a shop anywhere.“ Aida was gesturing in the direction of the kitchen and indeed, it looked very empty. Just like it would be if one just moved in. „Well, I guess we can't starve to death at least.“ Michio tried it with a joke, but the renewed glare he got as an answer made him question the impossibility of death in heaven once more. „Sorry, that was distasteful. But it's a bit of a problem anyway.“ He looked out of one of the windows and it seemed to get dark outside. There wasn't a clock in the room and he didn't wear a wristwatch either, so it was impossible to tell what time it actually was. „Maybe we should figure it out tomorrow.“ Michio suggested. „Don't make it sound like we are doing it together. But fine. I'm going to sleep. Good night.“ Aida stood up abruptly and went up the stairs to where the beedroom presumably was located. Michio leaned back into the couch and sighed on the outside this time. What a mess he had gotten himself into.
