Chapter 11:

28 Vs 2

Hero Duality

While both Misuki and Yuka were looking for a hiding spot, Yuka spent that time trying to think of a quick plan. They can't keep moving around, people will find them easily especially when the odds are against them. She had a great plan brewing. “Listen Misuki, I'll have this green vest on and I'll pretend to be an ally to the green team, misleading them from within. I need you to hide-”

“No.” Misuki rejected. Yuka was surprised by the form rejection.

“Which part are you disagreeing with?” Yuka couched down, arms hanging on her knees.

“Everything. I want you to be red right now,” Misuki demanded. Yuka furrowed her brows. “This plan is really goo-”

“NO!” Misuki's breathing was heavy and agitated. Yuka remained silent. “You don't trust me, do you?”

“I don't,” Misuki answered honestly. “What if you noticed we have no chance of winning and remained green? You are going to leave me here all alone?”

Tears filled her eyes and dripped down her cheeks, lips puckering. “I can't fight! I will die!”

Yuka listened quietly to her fears. She was right. It's possible that Yuka might not succeed. The only person who was guaranteed safety was her. She could decide whether to remain or switch teams.  Yuka thought of reassuring her that she will do her best to protect her but instead— “How do I become part of the red team?”

Misuki blinked, lips quivering. “I need to tap twice at the vest.”

Yuka held her wrist and moved her hand to tap on her vest; the color changed to red. “Happy?”

Misuki nodded, pouting, as Yuka smiled, ruffling her hair. “You are right Misuki, you can't be the only one to take a big risk. I should also put my life on the line to ensure we win.”

Yuka stood tall as she started a short workout for her arms. Misuki stared at her for a moment before she followed her movements.

“What's your ability Misuki?” Yuka asked as she got on her knees, stretching her legs out.

“I… don't know. I randomly picked,” Misuki admitted embarrassed.

Yuka raised her brows.

“I was crying a lot and didn't have time to read or look.” Her shoulders slumped. Yuka nodded. “Don't worry, we will find out eventually.”

Yuka stood up as she looked at the forest clearing, observing the empty place, filled with dead leaves and thick trees. “Change of plans. I need you to hide.”

Misuki learned forward when she noticed Yuka wasn't looking for a place to hide. “What about you? Aren't you going to hide with me?”

“If we want to win a battle, we need to intimidate our enemies before they intimidate us.” Yuka raised her hands up. “Since this is a hunting ground, everyone here is my prey.”

A gun flickered into existence. She looked at the weapon in wonder and smiled. “I’ll be the seeker now. They should consider hiding from me, instead.”

She swung her leg and made a line on the ground with the heel of her feet. “Starting from here onwards, no one will be allowed to cross this line so hide well while I take care of things.”

A chill went down Misuki's spine and her cheeks went red in happiness as she remembered the legendary sharpshooter. When Yuka said something, she meant it. She was the best team member to have.

“I'm sure you know Misuki… that I never missed a shot.”

Yuka grinned.

Hayato flew up and down, with Silvia growing dizzy, as he finally landed ungracefully on his feet. I'm so tired. I didn't even get a chance to rest. He learned to fly just to immediately get into round two. “Where are they?”

Silvia took a moment to appreciate the ground, hugging it. “I wasn't that bad.”

She looked at the sky and did a gesture of thanking god. “I WASN'T THAT BAD!”

“You are still a newbie, so I'll forgive you.” Silvia teased him. He pouted as they both shared a smile. She then closed her eyes as she tried to find the connection with her clone. “They are very close—Oh? It's two now, instead of one hider.”

“Really? I can't believe an idiot was persuaded somehow.” He rolled his eyes. Having to get rid of two is going to be a hassle.

“I'm surprised too. What was she thinking?” Silvia muttered. “Come on, let's catch up to them.”

Yuka caught someone sneaking up, attempting to get closer to her. She sprinted towards him; he seemed confused by the fact she was getting closer to him than away. “What’s this?”

With a flick of his wrist, a searing beam of emerald energy traveled towards her. Yuka backflipped, avoiding it. He shot consecutive beams and she noticed they were traveling much slower. She zigzagged towards him, trying to get within her range, and without hesitation, she pulled the trigger. The bullet struck him in the head.

She immediately went to a large tree and leaned on the bark. She knew people would follow the sound, so she needed to wait for them to approach. This was a game against time. And the time she was talking about wasn't the 3:50 high above, but rather the time she needed to get rid of them before they figured out a way to deal with her.

She noticed someone approaching and she waited. Another man. A lanky, shoulder-length green-haired man. She took a breath before she aimed the gun at him. She was going to shoot but she felt a scorching heat on her back. She sidestepped, ducking. She turned back and saw the man with piercings.

He cocked a brow; smoke wisp trailed off his fingertips. “Are you the hider?”

Misuki is hiding nearby. I think most of them don't know yet that there is another one. “Guess.”

“Interesting. Instead of hiding, you are targeting us. I guess I should thank you for making this easier for me.” Immediately after he said that, fire shot out from his hands. She sprinted with all her power, his hands tracked her movements. From the corner of her eyes she saw the other player dash toward her. Fire? Isn't that a very powerful ability? Can she even win against that?

She materialized a wood wall, her feet used it as a stepping stone, bouncing off it into a backflip. During the flip, she pulled the trigger. It hit him right on the shoulder: they were both surprised it worked. “I guess, my body isn't made out of fire either… shit.”

“Ryota, are you okay?” the other man, yelled and the man named Ryota waved him away. “I'm okay, Apollo.”

I'm glad most of these people didn't know how to use their abilities. She didn't stop running, instead, she aimed her gun at Apollo. He disappeared from her sight. Where did he go? One thing Yuka never did was stop running; she needed to be in constant movement so she wouldn't be caught off guard.

Suddenly a hand grabbed her leg and she flopped down into the ground. She immediately kicked backwards, as she looked back. He started to expand in size, not letting her feet go. He got so big that he leaned into her. She shook her leg but his grip was relentless. She would be crushed to death! Her mind immediately materialised a thick spear and the moment he fell on her, it stabbed him. The edge of the spear kept the weight off her enough that she rolled away in time to escape the death hold. Him crashing down was so loud, it almost shook the ground.

That loud crash will bring more people towards her. She didn't get a moment to catch her breath because fireballs were directed at her. She ducked back down and then got back to her feet, stumbling and falling before picking herself back up. She needed to get rid of them quickly but before she got a chance, a bright red blurred. Hayato learned his lesson from the first time and instead, kicked down. Her arm barely rose before it was kicked down by force, leaving her unable to guard herself properly. Huh? Yuka is red? A memory was triggered. I'm sure she was green before? Why did she switch teams?

He is still alive? She wanted to target them one by one, because she knew better than to put herself in severe disadvantage but this? The way they are ganging up on her like this, she won't make it. His ability is flying so I can just— she hopped backwards to give herself space and followed it with a high side-kick but he blocked it. His hand went to her jugular, making her slam to the ground, choking her. She wrapped her leg around his arm but his arm slipped away from her as if he knew she would do that. He threw a kick, sending her flying, and rolling on the ground, holding her side in pain. Saliva dripping down her mouth. Her hair muddy and dirty.

Three women, who looked exactly like each other, entered the fight, and Yuka knew she needed a better plan. Ryota bulldozed towards her; from behind her, the cloned women were also rushing, and Hayato from above. He won't use his fire unless he wants to kill his allies too. She summoned a pole and, with her hand grip, pulled her weight up, using Ryota’s chest to leverage a better position, and kicked him straight into his face, pushing her body up to miss Hayato's kick as gravity pulled her back down. She landed crouched on the ground, hand still pulling the pole down with her. She used all her power to swing the pole across the ground, hitting the clones by their feet. She only managed to trip two clones because she lacked sufficient strength. The last clone, inexperienced, threw a punch. Yuka shoved a knife its chest and immediately backed away.

She was breathing heavily. I need a weapon that will deal with everyone at once. Think Yuka! Think!

She didn't get to think because she unfortunately missed the fourth person who was in the fight. Apollo couldn't use his expansion properly because of the spear still in his body, but he was able to hit her head, using his body to keep her immobile. Shit, shit. She couldn't move.

“Finally we caught her?” Ryota looked at her then at everyone. This one girl was manhandling almost all of them?

Yuka gritted her teeth but the man sitting above her expanded enough that she couldn't move. God damn it, is this the end for me?

Hayato frowned; he felt like he missed a very vita piece of l information because if one thing he knew, it was that Yuka wouldn't have switched teams for no reason. Also, a part of him felt sadness that Yuka might die. No, don't think. She killed you without hesitation before. She doesn't care about you, remember.

“Get off Yuka-onee-chan!” Misuki, who was watching from afar, finally came out from her hiding spot, running to rescue Yuka.

The familiar voice made Hayato's heart stop. He could never forget the voice of his sweet, little sister. His eyes widened. No way, that can't be.

“Oh, there's another?” Ryota locked onto Misuki, and without fail, he started running towards her, his hand extending.

No! No! No! Hayato ran after him.

Tears poured out from Misuki's eyes as she continued to run to Yuka, screaming out loud. Rocks and leaves started to levitate from the ground, which everyone noticed before they fell to the ground, uselessly.

Is Misuki ability telekinesis? Yuka tried to guess what just happened momentary.

Even though it caused confusion, it didn't stop Ryota. A torrent of flame flew towards Misuki. Hayato wouldn't make it. “Stop it!”

Yuka slipped out a hand, targeting Ryota, hoping it would work. It doesn’t work—no, no. I need to save Misuki, I need to save Misuki— Misuki… Yuka immediately switched her hand towards Misuki instead.

Before the fire could reach Misuki, she was flung away by an invisible force, slamming into a tree.

Yuka let out a sigh of relief. I did it.

Hayato ran to help Misuki up, looking back at everyone. All these people… want to kill his sister. I need to switch teams. He would be damned to let anyone touch his sister.
