Chapter 17:
Re:Admin
Error messages flooded Tundra's TV-head as she tried to make sense of Reyus's confession. Mirai's jaw dropped, her grip tightening on her sword. Eyrie gasped, her eyes wide with fear.
Admin looked at his friends, his heart swelling with gratitude and a strong resolve. We can't let Aeriys win, he stated, his voice firm. We have to help Reyus break free, no matter the cost.
Just then, the King of Arcvon, seeing his chance, charged, sword raised high. Traitor! he yelled, his face twisted with rage. You'll pay for this!
Instantly, Reyus stepped in front of Admin, shielding him. Newfound resolve blazed in her eyes, her demonic power surged back, but it felt different this time. Not for destruction, but for protection.
With a roar, she blasted the King backward, sending him crashing into rubble. He lay there, shocked and defeated, his belief in the gods shaken.
Turning to Admin, Reyus offered a real smile. Thank you, Admin, she said, with gratitude. For believing in me.
Admin smiled back, relieved. We're in this together, Reyus, he said. We'll face whatever Aeriys throws at us, together.
The fight was far from over. The knights, though shaken, fought on. But everything had changed. Reyus, embracing her Mishanter side but fighting for herself, fought with purpose, her power balanced by compassion for her friends.
As they battled their way out of the cavern, leaving behind the defeated knights and the ruins of the King's faith, Admin knew they'd started something. He also knew Aeriys wasn't going to give up easily. The war for Arcvon, and Reyus's soul, had just begun now that Mishanter a.k.a. Reyus had came clean on the Goddess Aeiry's true plans.
The escape was brutal. The knights, shaken by the King's defeat and Reyus's secret, fought like mad. Mirai, with her sword, stood firm. Tundra, her TV-head still glitching, launched some sonic blasts to disorient the knights, making openings for the others. Eyrie, using all her healing magic, raced to mend wounds and keep them safe.
Inside the tank, Admin struggled with Reyus's confession. She was Mishanter, the Demon Lord, strong and potentially destructive. Yet, she was fighting with them, defying her creator, and choosing her path. It showed her strength, her courage, and the power of friendship.
As they broke through the final line, escaping the tunnels and entering Arcvon's moonlit streets, Admin knew they couldn't stay. The city would be crawling with guards, and the King would be regrouping. They needed a safe place to plan.
Where do we go now? Mirai asked, breathless but determined.
Reyus looked at Admin, hopeful and uncertain. I don't know, she admitted. Aeriys controls everything. I don't know who to trust.
Admin thought, mind racing. Then, an idea. The Abandoned Temple of the Forgotten Gods, he said, with resolve, using his phone.
The Abandoned Temple? Tundra asked, her TV-head showing an old map. You sure? People say it's cursed, that dark spirits haunt it.
It's our best shot, Admin replied. Aeriys probably thinks it's worthless, a relic. She wouldn't expect us there.
The Abandoned Temple of the Forgotten Gods was just outside Arcvon. People considered it a place for those who failed or a good hiding spot.
On their way, they met resistance. Small groups of guards, trying to prove themselves tried to stop them. But Reyus, with her resolve and power, quickly dealt with them.
Reaching the temple, they hesitated, staring into the darkness. The air was heavy with decay and dust, the silence broken by creaking and distant dogs.
You sure, Admin? Eyrie asked, scared. I don't like this place.
Admin squeezed her shoulder. We'll be okay, Eyrie, he said, confidently. We have each other. That's all that matters.
As they entered the Abandoned Temple, leaving Arcvon behind, the King of Arcvon, hurt but alive, started to rethink everything.
Among the rubble, body aching and mind reeling, he started to question his beliefs. He had served the gods, following their will. But what if he was wrong? What if the gods weren't so good?
Reyus's face, in pain as she fought Aeriys, haunted him. He had seen her fight, her struggle. Could it be that the gods weren't perfect, that they lied?
As dawn broke, the King decided. He wouldn't blindly follow the gods. He would seek the truth. He would find Admin and his friends, and hear their side. He owed them that.
Inside the Abandoned Temple, Admin and the group found an old chamber. In the center, a dusty altar. The air felt old, like forgotten power.
This is it, Reyus said, in awe. This is where we can find answers.
As they neared, a woman appeared, with long hair and starlight eyes. She wore robes, standing barefoot on the stone.
Welcome, she said, softly but firmly. I've been waiting.
Before Admin could ask, she answered, I know who you are, you are Reyus and you are Mishanter. The goddess wants to control you.
Admin started to think that maybe Reyus and Aeriys were and questioned Tell me, were you Aeiry's vessel?
The woman paused, looked at her hands, then shooked her head.
My name is Lyra, she continued, ignoring Admin. And I can help you. But it won't be easy. You'll face challenges that will test you.
Then Lyra said Before we continue, I must say that you are in big risk and you must flee right away.
They had no idea what was happening, but they knew to be ready.
Lyra's words hung heavy, a warning that scared Eyrie. Risk? What risk? she asked, trembling.
Lyra looked at the entrance, aware. Aeriys knows you're here, she said, low and urgent. She's sending her forces. You must leave, now.
Admin's mind raced. How did Aeriys find them? Did she expect this? Or was there a traitor?
Where do we go? he asked, worried. We can't run forever.
Seek refuge in the Kingdom of Opalis, Lyra replied, looking at Admin. It's hidden past the Sunstone Mountains, a shining city by an oasis. It's a place of art, ruled by a Queen who stands against the Arcvonian gods. They might help you.
The Kingdom of Opalis was legendary, whispered about. It was said to be for artists, thinkers, and those who valued freedom, fiercely independent.
The Kingdom of Opalis? Tundra asked, her TV-head showing a map. That's far. And the Sunstone Mountains can get dicey.
Time isn't on your side, Lyra said, firmly. Aeriys's forces will come in minutes. You must leave now, and fast.
She turned to Reyus, with hope. Mishanter, she said, with command, you have power you haven't found. You can use the earth's power, the invisible energy flowing beneath the world. Use it to get to the Kingdom of Opalis. It's dangerous, but it's your only hope.
Reyus looked surprised. I… I don't know how, she stammered, doubtful.
You can, Lyra insisted, surely. You have the power. You just need to trust.
She touched Reyus's forehead, closing her eyes and chanting. Energy washed over Reyus, and her eyes glowed.
Focus, Mishanter, Lyra said, barely a whisper. Picture the Kingdom of Opalis. See the towers above the oasis, the gardens, the markets. Feel the earth's energy, guiding you.
Reyus closed her eyes, focusing. Images of the Kingdom of Opalis flooded her mind, real and bright. She could smell the gardens, hear the music from the city.
Now, use your power, Lyra said, fading. Open a way to the Kingdom of Opalis. Trust yourself, and the earth's power.
Taking a breath, Reyus used her power. Energy burst from her, and tearing reality. A portal appeared, showing the Kingdom of Opalis: white towers over an oasis, surrounded by desert.
Go now, Lyra said, barely audible. And may the Forgotten Gods protect you.
They stepped through the portal, leaving the Abandoned Temple behind.
As the portal closed, Lyra collapsed, exhausted. She had helped them much, and she knew Aeriys was coming.
But she didn't regret it. She had tried to protect Reyus, to give her a chance. And she knew Reyus would decide Arcvon's fate.
Meanwhile, upon hearing about Reyus, the king investigated, but was too late, as they had gone.
