Chapter 3:

The sky kingdom

Above the sky

My body felt wet; the pain was all gone. I opened my eyes. I was not in the hospital. She was not kidding; this is another place. It looks like a cave with roots and beautiful blue crystals everywhere, also a path that connects to something, but I could not see because it was too high. Looking up, I saw a massive blue and glowy tree reaching the top of the cave. Near me there were arrows and dry blood on the ground.
—Finally you wake up; I have been waiting for you for a while now,— Petra said. She walked to me and helped me get up. She had different clothes from last time, and also she looked older, like she had been living here since her death. I had a lot of questions to ask, but it looked like a bad time to ask her, so I just followed her. We started to head out of the cave as the sunlight got brighter. The place was not what I expected—trees without leaves, terrible grass, and lifeless. At the back of the cave entrance there was a massive forest, so I started to go that way until she stopped me.
—If you want a guaranteed death, just go that way; NEVER enter that forest.— Petra said. What is in that forest anyway to make it that scary? I turned around and followed her.

We had a really long walk until we could see a rock.
—Want to know your new place and where we will have adventures? Just stand up on that rock over there— Petra said. I followed her instructions and stood up on that rock. My eyes could not believe it; it was exactly like Professor Benjamin said: a giant snow biome with huge mountains at the north, a desert at the west, a big town in the middle, and other impressive stuff like sky islands.
—There is a lot that you will need to learn and know if you want to survive, Mike. I will explain it when we are in a safe place.— Petra said. We followed a dirt path to guide us out of this poor place and go to the big town I saw.

Out of nowhere a strange big shadow appeared on the ground, and a group of knights arose from the ground surrounding us.
—Give her what you promised or suffer the consequences.— The black knight said.
—I never signed a deal for him; I lied to her he is mine.— Petra said.
—Prepare to go through hell then.— The black knight said. Petra raised her hand, and a spear with an explosive appeared in her hand. She threw the spear to the air and threw a rock at it, making the bomb trigger and explode. The spear shards went in all directions, killing almost all knights except the black one, who was protected by the shield he had; a small shard made a deep cut in my back. Petra looked at me and got distracted. The knight went running to her and swung his sword, cutting her in half. I could see him getting closer and closer to me, and he grabbed a gun from his back, but this model is different; it was a medieval model, not a current one. He pulled the trigger and shot me in the face while grabbing my body into his shoulders.

I could feel a warm hand on my face. I opened my eyes and saw a new face. She was not Petra; it was a beautiful woman with blue eyes and yellow hair, and I was in her lap resting. Also, my clothes changed from my school uniform to a white shirt and blue shorts.
—Poor guy, you do not deserve to die like that when you just came here.— She said.
—Where am I exactly? Where is Petra?— I asked.
—Don't you worry; she is alright, but she is not awake right now.— She said. I stood up and explored the place a bit. I realized I was above the sky, like a kind of sky kingdom, maybe? From up here I could see six landscapes, I suppose each one represents a kind of kingdom. I wondered how I was alive; I was shot in the face, but I don't feel a hole in my face. I took my shirt and touched my back; not even a scratch, but I felt a weird-like cross on my back.

The yellow-haired woman came closer, and before I could speak, she talked first.
—My apologies for not presenting myself; my name is Era, and I am the ruler of the sky kingdom. You and Petra were found by one of my guards on the ground and were brought here. The strange cross you have is a special healing ability that I have that keeps you alive, so don't get hit there— she said.

Era was kind enough to show me around the huge castle. Wandering around in the basement, I saw an ugly door and asked her about it, and she said it had nothing behind it and continued the tour. She left me in a huge garden of flowers. From what I saw and remember from Professor Benjamin's history classes, we are in the medieval age; the huge gardens, castles, and princess magic have to be 100%. This was a nice spot to sleep; the sun was shining and the sky was beautiful, and before I knew it, I was sleeping on the grass.

A finger touching my forehead woke me up. A kid? How was a person this young working as a butler, I suppose?
—No way! It is Kyle; long time no see. I knew we were going to meet again; I owe you my life from back there in the sand kingdom. Those guys almost killed me! — the boy said.
—Wait a second, I think you got the wrong person. My name is Mike, not Kyle. What is your name?
—Oh, my apologies, sir. You looked like him... well, my name is Lester. It is kind of late for you to be in the garden; besides, Miss Petra wants to see you. She was kind of worried about you. Follow me to her room on the second floor, right beside yours— he said. I followed the boy to the second floor and reached her room. The door was open, and I saw her in a terrible way; an arm was missing, and she had bandages all around her body. She got up from bed and ran towards me.

—I-I thought I lost you there, and-and-and I almost killed you. I should not have used a dangerous attack back there, but thanks to Era you are alive—he said, crying.
—Whoa, take it easy. You are seriously injured. Blood is coming from your bandages, and if it were not for you, we would have both died back there, so thank you— I replied. I grabbed her hand and walked to the bed and left her there with the sheets covering her and walked out of the room. Lester led me to my room and told me to not see Petra so she can recover from the injuries and left the room. My room was identical to hers, with a desk, a king-size bed, windows, and a shelf with books. Before going to sleep I grabbed a book called "Silia the Mother of Knowledge."

"Silia, a brave woman who came from a place called Earth, brought new knowledge for our planet, and with the help of the demi-god of diligence, locked up greed's soul, saving us from a multiversal threat."
"Silia and Kyle ruled over the sand kingdom until a sneaky attack got them killed."
"Silia was the first person to control one of the great beasts."
"Silia is the one who helps everyone with her kindness."

Is that the "Klye" Lester was talking about? Who is this so-called Silia, and what did that demi-god want to achieve? I have to ask Era tomorrow.

I woke up and saw Lester in my room.
—Era told me to keep you busy for the day, so... wanna go to the city? I need to buy ingredients for lunch— said Lester.
—Sure, why not?— I responded.
I followed him through the big hallways of the mansion leading to an exit door. Outside, two horses were waiting for us.
—Hop on and follow my lead; this path will guide us to town— Lester said.
Look at the detail on the armor; it is insane, and we are riding them. We hopped on our horses and began to follow the path. On the way to town, I spotted a small castle with a huge cannon on top.
—For what does this kindom have that structure over there?—I asked while pointing with my finger at the castle.
—It is very simple; from there we get down to other kingdoms—we just launch down. Almost all kingdoms have at least one; if you want to leave, ask me to help you!— He replied.
—Lester, what do you know about Silia? Like her story or what happened to her?—I asked.
— This story happened 9 years ago when a girl from the sand kingdom made a meeting with the most important people from every kingdom. She had an idea—a way to kill a demi-god and free us from the abuse from the demi-god of greed. Apparently the demigods had a weakness somewhere, and she found it. With the help from other demigods like diligence, we took her soul and trapped her underground. Sadly, her cult wasn't very happy and started the first war between all kingdoms and the greed cult. At the end we lost, and a lot of people died, especially everyone from that meeting with the exception of the demi-gods. Silia and Kyle avoided their death and escaped to their kingdom, but they were followed back. The cult didn't know the third great beast, the sandworm, was waiting for them. They managed to enter their home and saw a little kid, who they took and protected. A month passed by, and Kyle disappeared, and Silia was found badly injured, and later on she died— He said.

After a long ride we entered town and stopped near a tree and left the horses tied and went to the closest grocery shop, and Lester bought the things that appeared on the list. We continued our shopping day by going to another shop where they sell wood and string. We finished the day by going to a drugstore to buy medicine for Petra. Looking at the shelf, they were selling that glowy crystal that I saw in the cave, and from what I could tell, for a high price in terms of money in this world.

We went back to the place we left our horses, placed our stuff at the back of the saddle, and took the long ride back to the castle. At the entrance a young princess and a maid were waiting for us; by the looks of her, she seems to be around 11 years old. She ran to Lester with a happy smile while he was grabbing the stuff we bought.
—Took you so long; I was waiting all day to play, but it is kind of late now— she said with a sad voice.
—Also, who is this new person? Someone who will have fun with Rukia, right?—said Rukia with a surprised face.
—Princess Rukia, please contain your excitement; he is Mike, someone who will be staying with us for a while," said the maid with a calm voice. "Sorry for my impoliteness, my name is Silver, and I am the young princess's maid, and she is Rukia, our future ruler of the sky kingdom— She added.
—Look at the time! The sun has almost disappeared; time to make dinner. Princess Rukia, have a good night's sleep—Lester said. Silver took Rukia's hand and left; we should do the same.

Lester guided me towards the kitchen and grabbed the ingredients, telling me to cut tomatoes and mushrooms into pieces to make a salad, while he cooked steak. The kitchen looked like a 5-star restaurant; it had a lot of things. After a long time we were ready to bring the food, and Lester opened a door in the kitchen that led to the dining room. At the end of the long table there was Era sitting down and the other two maids. We placed the food and sat down near Era, who looked amazed with the food. Suddenly the doors opened and Petra came in; with the bandages still on her, she walked and sat with us.
—Petra, look at you; it looks like you are way better now to eat with us— Said Era.
—Well, I was kinda lonely in my room, so I decided to start moving again—She said. I didn't notice Petra's arm is back, and she seems happy to see me. Our conversation relied on Petra's recovery and the food.

2 hours passed, and everyone left except Lester and I. We were finishing washing the plates and placed them where they belong. The long day left me tired, and I went to my room, but I couldn't sleep; everything I tried didn't work. Maybe it was the high temperature, so I got up from bed and opened the window near my desk. The wind was refreshing, and outside was pitch black, which made me finally sleep. A loud scream woke me up, and it hit me with the chills; it sounded like a kid's scream. A moment passed by, and then I heard another one.
—Please, someone help me; they entered my room— Said the voice. I rushed out of bed and went to the hallway and followed where the voice came from. A strange purple gas surrounded the hallway, reaching every corner. I tried to not breathe, but sooner or later I had to breathe. My body felt very tired, and before I collapsed, I could see a shadow of people moving around having something sharp in their hands.
