Chapter 17:
Rebirth of Science: Empire of Hope
This may be a fair trial. But the main goal is to save Eldran's life. Estis thought: – If I win, the village will follow my way. But I don’t want to diminish the power of knowledge. The villagers are still divided.
Some applauded Moris, while others still trusted Estis. Queen Mia called both of them to the hospital but did not start the treatment. She only explained the situation. Queen Mia: – Moris, Estis, I will offer you a trial. Eldran is in critical condition. Let’s monitor and test his condition using only your methods. Whoever’s method proves effective, the dispute will be resolved through that. But do not start the treatment yet. Moris and Estis looked at each other.
Moris thought: – This trial… is fair, but difficult. True knowledge and the limits of magic will be seen here. Estis thought: – If I win, my way will be considered correct. But Moris… his teaching method is strong too. Queen Mia sensed their inner states: – This decision will not be easy. But you must be given a choice.
Before applying your methods, each of you must show proof to the villagers and students. The villagers calmed down, but they still paid attention to every word, every move. In this situation, tension and conflict only intensified. Moris and Estis prepared mentally, planning how they would use their methods. The students, especially Lyra, looked at Moris in awe: Lyra thought: – Teacher, we are learning new things. But this trial… is really scary… The sun was setting. The village noise did not stop. Queen Mia thought: – Through this trial, we will see the truth. But the outcome is still uncertain… The first rays of the sun fell on the village, and it seemed that calm had returned. But there was still noise in the village center. Moris and Estis were called to Eldran’s bedridden house. The villagers, students, and even Queen Mia witnessed the event. Estis arrived first, confidently approaching Eldran.
Healing magic, a green light, flared from her hands, and Eldran’s body began to glow. Estis thought: – Everything will be fine now. My power is enough. But a minute later, Eldran coughed again. Estis repeatedly applied magic, but no result appeared. The light shone, yet Eldran’s condition did not change. Estis thought anxiously: – Maybe I didn’t use it correctly… no, that’s impossible! My magic is strong! The villagers and students observed, noticing Estis’s doubt. Moris waited his turn calmly. Moris held Eldran’s pulse, monitored his breathing, and made internal assumptions.
Moris thought: – From the pulse, I see his lungs are damaged. The signs resemble chronic bronchitis. In this case, healing magic is useless. But special herbs are needed for treatment. He sent the students to the forest to gather the necessary herbs. After some time, the students brought the herbs. Moris began chopping and boiling them. Estis thought, smiling: – Look, Moris is preparing everything. He won’t ruin my plan. Though Estis smiled at Moris, she made sure the students couldn’t notice her intentions. Moris focused the students’ attention on the board and began explaining. Moris: – Eldran’s illness is due to chronic lung damage. In such cases, magic alone cannot help. For prevention, these methods can be used… The students listened with intense interest. Estis looked at Moris, smiling, but her smile seemed slightly unsuccessful. Moris lifted the boiling decoction and showed it to the students. Moris: – With this decoction, Eldran will breathe. The hot steam will reach his lungs and restore the cells. We repeat this process several times. Estis thought, smiling: – If he lets Eldran drink it, all the credit goes to Moris… Moris brought the decoction close to Eldran but did not let him drink it. Instead, he directed the steam to Eldran’s face. The students observed from behind, watching every action carefully. Moris: – If Eldran breathes in this steam, his lungs will recover. See, scientific treatment is a reliable method. Eldran inhaled the steam for several minutes. His eyes gradually calmed, and his breathing became easier. Moris looked at his students: – This process must be repeated several times. After a few repetitions, Eldran fully recovered and rose from the bed.
The villagers, students, and even Estis were astonished. A villager, happily: – See, science also has tremendous power! Lyra: – Teacher, this is amazing! Now we can protect ourselves from diseases without relying only on magic! Estis thought, surprised that her trick failed, but she did not get angry, only looked dejected. Moris thought, looking at the students: – This is the power of true knowledge. Only by understanding the limits of magic and combining it with science can we truly save lives. The villagers and students showed genuine respect to Moris. Estis’s trick failed, leaving her embarrassed.
