Chapter 49:

Games

God Games

The game began; Justice, playing the white pieces, immediately began her assault into an Italian game opening, while Falsity counteracted with a two-knights defence. Both were playing like books that have been mastered by countless masters and in turn produced these two machines.

“Are you planning to try to take over again?” Justice bluntly asked

Falsity nodded towards her; there wasn't a reason to hide it. “I plan to continue my old plan, to start a new order within our measly world. Will the world's deities, right hand, allow me to commit such things? However, I doubt it.”

“That hand dealt you a big blow; I couldn't oppose it if I wished most likely.” There was a hint of worry towards Falsity; seeing her gone for another thousand years wasn’t ideal for Justice, considering she was the most entertaining of all of the deities she talks to.

She laughed at the irony of the situation. “I still despise that robot. Who would have thought that a true deity would consider me such a threat as to make a whole counter for me?”

The sound of clashing blades and armour rang from outside, their mind battle being just one of many ongoing currently, but this didn't distract them, however. Just motivated them to finish faster and see what is going on.

“I won’t try to stop you unless I deem it unjust; wanting a new order, like I said to you all that time ago, is reasonable after thousands of years of failed god games.” Her indifference was what Falsity always admired: the way she stuck to her ideals despite being able to do as she pleased.

Falsity scoffed, “After all this time, not one managed to replace the world deity. I'm not sure if it's the weak representatives that go to fight it or the general decline of our powers.”

“Maybe it's both. I know that you can change things now. I've seen the contracts you put up time and time again, and so have they. That pillar with twisting spirals and a star on top”

Justice let out a small internal chuckle. Not once has someone of such power been involved in their issues. The promise that kept them away from the world of deities and god games seemed to be abandoned.

“It really has helped me. How else would I have come back after all?”

Justice widened her eyes slightly, her gold eyes zoning towards Falsity, the way she wore her expression and the way her body stood still. It could be a lie, knowing her entire standing is based on such actions, but under a human circumstance. She wasn’t lying.

Their game had already been going on for a couple of minutes, and the flow of time changed drastically as people got intertwined with such games.

Outside the tent, there was the sound of clashing as Toki’s blade struck the side of a hooded figure before it deflected away.

“Cut anything my ass, this armour just turns my strikes into tiny chips.” His eyes wandered around the hooded figure he was fighting; they were each fighting two figures each, as determined by the fairness scale of Justice due to the power discrepancy.

As he goes in with a jab towards its face, the other one zooms into range, clashing his spear away before retreating into the shadows.

They are definitely around our level; it seems to be a fifty-fifty fight at this stage.

His gaze turns towards Shina, trying to land a blow with her orb, the hooded figures dancing around each of her strikes like they knew where it would land before it even began.

They are moving abnormally, and any attack seems to be predicted.

He quickly darts around to Ayuri, seeing her threads forming elaborate shapes, trying to trap the figures with no avail. Once again, the biggest piece of information he got is that when he was looking towards them, it seemed that the threads, no matter from which side they seemed to be seen, were even behind.

Some sort of magic, I assume. I hope that girl can figure it out already.

He continues trying to land strikes towards the armour. The three purity deities, with six other members, stood still behind the fight's lines, watching and analysing what was going on. There were two next to love and two near humility. They were holding back clearly, as ordered by the justice.

Toki sees one of the hooded figures block his strike before leaving out of range, the one in front of him open to strike.

Put my full force into this

He pushes down his spear, hoping to slash the figure in half, his spear coming down with immense speed, before it gets blocked by the hooded figure again, coming from his side.

This isn’t possible; calm down and think about how

Toki, pushing himself back, sees the figure dance away again, his eyes darting, making sure he was not getting attacked from different angles while focusing on the one in front of him.

It came from the other side; however, it escaped from the other. The movement speed must be as fast as the one cat lady we met for our first fight. They are definitely strong, but I don't think that's it.

He takes the other figure disappearing from his sight.

They don't decide to use their advantage to attack us; they just block and defend. Are they trying to wear us out?

He glances over to Shina, her speed matching that of the figures as they traverse around her, ignoring every strike she tries to land. She, too, wasn’t getting attacked.

I have to try something.

Toki, taking his spear's new black thread, grabs it firmly before throwing his spear full force at one of the figures dodging Shina’s orb. Its back was fully turned, and the open field, having nothing to block the spear's path, made it a direct hit.

The figure with its back turned manages to see the spear coming before dodging out of two attacks at once.

They weren’t looking. They can see all attacks even without looking at them directly, which means there is definitely something at play.

His spear gets pulled back by the string, giving him a quick window to block a strike by his opposing member.

“Do you see this neat girl?” he shouts out behind her.

From the back, Era stood watching with her representative, their gazes watching closely, using all their powers to figure out this abnormal fight scene happening, the movements being perfectly timed, each strike being parried and predicted from every side. They also knew there was something bigger at play.

“Lady Era, I'm concluding that a member is missing from here and that they can't see the strings.” Her eyes wander around trying to find someone. There was another she wanted to share, also, but like a scientist, she does things step by step.

“You're right. What else?” she demanded.

The girl sighed before using her advanced vision. “Those string pieces sticking out of their upper back, they seem to have magic running through them.”

The girl calls out, “Toki, do you see any strings on their back?”

He turns around, looking at all the figures, noticing nothing on their backs. Why would she point this out?

“No,” he shouted back.

The girl nods before Era adds in her opinion, “That magicless kid might not be able to see them; that is understandable, but that deity-powered girl shouldn't have an issue.”

They continue watching, their eyes scanning the field like hawks. There was definitely no one better than them at finding out the truth. They were made for science after all.
