Chapter 42:

Holder vs holder vs holder

He was ready to die but he woke up young again in a fantasy world.

Van and The Lion Elf charged each other, wielding their weightless swords in one hand, while shooting projectiles and generating shields with the other, each with a sort of representation of their power hovering over their hand. For van this was the black liquid fire. His opponent held a perfect sphere of light.

They joined combat, all three, with the lion elf holding his own against them both, summoning spheres of light to block both Oolahs projectiles as well as Vans darts, even while attacking with them. Somehow he was doing this even when she was out of his line of sight. The beams of light were thin, like a lazer, and fast, leaving scorch marks wherever they touched. Vans projectiles were solid, disappearing after use. This went on for almost a minute, before their enemy changed his tactics. Beneath him formed a circle of light, and seeing this, Van formed his own black one. Vlaluna started flying toward Oolah, his lazers only targeting her, to hamper her movements and keep her from attacking. Although Van tried in earnest he could not get between them. He tried summoning black globes of energy in front of Vlaluna, but he created a shield of light in front of him, like a pyramid on its side. It smashed through, their powers seeming to cancel the other out.

When an extra large black circle appeared ahead and to his side, Vlaluna thought nothing of it, assuming it was just another simple attack origin but larger. seeing no other attack origins he just moved his shield, keeping it toward the door. When he flew by it a great fist flew out crashing against the shield, followed by the rest of the Ogrii on all fours, who was also dissolving from the fist back from the impact with the positive energy. The Ogrii was out of the battle as soon his emergence, but his timely and powerful attack threw Vlaluna from his flying disc. Oolahs eyes widened in surprise, not having seen this ability yet.

Van was only just beginning, pouring out the fastest creatures he'd killed to swarm his opponent. They didn't last long against his lazers, but they would pour out automatically as Van was strategically targeting him with darts coming from other directions from energy spheres Van summoned. Finally Van was gaining the upper hand. He created another exit point and begin depositing the slow moving spiders all about, by rapidly moving it. Still, a mere touch from the lazers seemed to be enough to dissipate them completely. When a spider jumped and clung to his back, biting him repeatedly, Van thought he had won. He wouldn't let his guard down, but the negative energy poison never failed. Vlaluna flung it from his back and continued fighting. Van continued as well, robotically, waiting for Vlaluna to start succumbing to the poison. He never did. Van was starting to worry he was immune to it, as several other creatures had scored hits on him.

"Enough of this play!!" Shouted the adversary, and from his hand blossomed an explosion of elemental light destroying everything in it's radiance, as it filled the hall, tearing apart any negative energy not attached to Van himself. Van, for his part, surrounded himself in liquid black fire. As soon as the light faded, before he thought Vlaluna could see, Van too began expanding his then realized it would harm Oolah....

"Oolah..." thought Van, "would have been destroyed by that light." exploding into a fury, He charged Vlaluna sword first. they fenced as they had at first, but now with an urgency. However, the natural speed and strength of the lion elf was simply too much for Van, whose skill barely surpassed the other. He began being driven back, but, frowning, Van knew what he must do.  He baited his opponent into a thrust... It was impossible to say whether he had been stabbed, or if he had impaled himself intentionally upon the sword. And as he did, multiple black swords extended from him, impaling Vlaluna, who, extricating himself, stumbled backwards, withdrawing the sword from Van. They both stood looking at each other, blood dropping in great amounts from the two of them. Then Vlalunas leg exploded.

"Finish him!" called Oolah, "take his vitality and heal yourself!"

"No!" cried Vlaluna, shooting a laser at Van who stepped to the side, creating a great black portal over his enemy. Van moved, lasers trailing after him, as a great black anvil came falling from the portal. The fight was finished.

Looking around he spotted Oolah on the ramp, waving. She had hid behind it's now badly scorched wall. His wound still raw had already closed. Laughing in relief, he made his way over to her as slowly, the pain receded. Oolah hopped over the wall, and walked to meet him, her ample hips swinging.

"We have triumphed," grinned Oolah, "We may go home."

Hugging her, van said, "this is goodbye, my friend." They parted, Oolah with a perplexed look on her face, Van with a resolute one on his. "I'm staying here, where I can't hurt anyone."

"Idiot!" Spat Oolah, "who have you hurt?! Only your enemies! Our enemies!! Had you not killed them they'd have certainly killed us!"

"You don't know me!" Screamed Van in anguish, "Don't know what I've done! What I am! I'm a Monster!" He shouted again for emphasis and because he didn't know what else to say, "A Monster!"

Oolah was more furious then hurt. She didn't know what to say to convince him. "You're not a monster." She finally said softly, "I would not love a monster."

"I am a monster," he confirmed to her, "A monster who loves you, too, but a monster, nonetheless. I can't go back with you. I'll only bring you misery. Go to Rollobal, he is a far better person than I."

Oolah smiled sadly, "What Rollobal did not tell you is that he already has five wives. Besides, I only ever want to be loved by one man."

She turned and walked out.
