Chapter 22:

Chapter 22: He's a Good Boy

Manifest Merge: Fused With A Goddess

It was now the second knight's turn. It struck Harmony, but she managed to avoid some of the damage by blocking with her weapon. She now had less than a quarter of her HP left. She fell to one knee and winced from the pain.

Vault’s eyes widened “Harmony?!”

She looked up at Vault and gave him a reassuring smile. “It's okay. As soon as you're done with your turn, I should be next. I'll just use a potion to heal myself.”

Vault nodded and used his crafting ability once again on the knight that was holding him. The loud metallic creaking echoed once more as its body became more warped. It's almost like it was imploding. There were now two more turns left before he would defeat it.

To everyone's surprise, the wolf's turn was first. The wolf gave Harmony a curious look. “Nice wolf. If you don't attack me I… promise to give you some treats…? I'll take you home with me if you’re nice…”

Eunice found her words to be ridiculous, but couldn’t blame her too much. They were in a desperate situation after all. Enemies all around them, and their only ally was still captured.

The wolf happily barked at her like a dog, almost as if it was agreeing with her desperate pleas. The wolf took out its weapon using its teeth, and used it to slash at the second suit of armor. It managed to knock off a good chunk of health.

If their lives weren’t in danger, she would have found a wolf using a sword to be very cool. The next one to attack was now the bat. Harmony watched the bat and was surprised, but also frustration as it flew off of the wolf's back. “I should’ve been next! How am I slower than a little bat?!”

The bat flew towards the second suit of armor and tackled it. The damage it caused plus the damage the wolf dealt reduced the second suit of armor’s HP by one quarter.

Harmony's turn finally came and she turned her attention to her inventory. “Guess I got no choice, but to use this turn for healing, otherwise I'm definitely not going to make it.”

She held up her hand and opened her inventory. A chalice-like cup, crafted by Vault, emerged in her palm filled with the medicinal healing liquid from the herbs. This was their version of a healing potion.

She chugged it like it was an energy drink and felt the healing effects spread throughout her body. It managed to restore her to full health. She wiped her mouth with her wrist and gave the enemies a determined look as the cup teleported back into her inventory. “I'm still in this.”

The first burning haunted knight used its turn to attack the wolf. The bat quickly moved out of the way just before its weapon landed. The wolf let out a whimper as it recoiled from the damage.

Harmony gave it a sympathetic look. She wasn't sure if it could be considered an ally or an enemy, but she also wasn’t twisted enough to enjoy watching it suffer. She didn’t have the same corrupted personality like the ghost monster holding her friend.

The wolf’s actions so far were still up for debate. Part of her still didn't want to just leave it alone, if there was a chance it wasn't a bad guy.

The other knight proceeded to attack the wolf during its next turn. The wolf collapsed on its side and looked like it was having trouble breathing. It let out loud labored breaths as its chest rose slowly and went back down. Vault’s turn came and he noticed Harmony looking carefully at the wolf with a pained expression.

He was about to activate his skill, but stopped. “Hey, whatever you choose to do I trust your judgment. You took a chance on me. I noticed from time to time you tend to have some very weird ideas, but I know you try to find the good in people.”

She nodded and he used his turn attempting to craft the burning haunted knight for the second to last time. Its armor had now become horribly imploded in appearance. Almost like he was wrapping it around his body more. It seemed counter productive since his goal was to get out of its grasp, but she figured he was going to use it to make something interesting.

The wolf's turn began, and the bat was hugging it while making little screeching noises. It was almost as if it was trying to comfort the poor creature. It looked like it was trying to encourage it to stand up.

The wolf stood up with difficulty and glanced at Harmony for a moment. She got on guard, getting ready to brace herself for an attack. It shook its head at her and turned to the second burning haunted knight.

It struck it with its blade and collapsed on the floor after. That attack must have taken a lot out of it. It's turn was done and it was now the bat’s turn. The bat had also turned in Harmony's direction and screeched a lot at her. It kept turning between her and the wolf almost as if it was desperately asking for help.

It did this for most of its turn timer, but knew that it would be wasting a turn if it didn't do anything. With the small amount of remaining time it tackled the burning haunted knight. It's HP had now been reduced to the halfway point.

Harmony clenched her fists and looked carefully at both of the animals. “I don't know if you can understand me, but if both of you promise to be good then I'll help you.”

She could hear Eunice's voice chiming in her head. “< Are you sure this is a wise decision? Judging from their actions they seem to have some level of intelligence beyond just being normal monsters. They could be trying to trick you in some way. I just want you to think carefully about what you do next.>”

Harmony held up her hand and made a potion appear in it. “I already said it before Eunice…I can't just stand by seeing someone who needs my help, and watching them suffer. Someone needs to step in and actually care.”

She walked up to the wolf and gave both animals a comforting smile. “It's okay. This should make him feel a bit better.”

She poured the potion down the wolf's mouth and it restored its HP. The wolf stood up and barked happily at her. “You're welcome.”

She returned back to her spot and her turn had ended.
