Chapter 5:
Fogbound
Foggar ended up suffering a slow death under MIdas's selfish reign. Even the Curters, which I prayed were going to assist in the prevention of the planet's destruction, were unfortuntely useless. When I'd been summoned there I only had 5 years before I was warped back to Morshina, I wish Lumar allowed me to flesh out Curting, sadly time was against me and I did the best I could. Anyways, how are you doing old friend?
“Understood?” said Beth, she’d just spent the last hour explaining how their Curter abilities work.
“I think,” I replied my confusion slipping through my tone.
“Then explain it to me,” she said as her final test.
“Basically, a person with Curting abilities is someone who is able to manipulate one of the seven elements [], Waijins however can use all seven elements making someone like me special.
To use these powers, one must cut their body with a [] to see whether we’ll be able to draw upon the Curting cards. These cards represent when we our abilities are in use. They are brought subconsciously, meaning we call upon them whenever we want. HOWEVER, if we want to use them we must have [] liquid as it is the life essence in liquid form and if we use it without the life essence, the abilities will use our bodies as fuel. It starts with the Curter’s nails, then it moves to their flesh, and so on until the body itself is no more.”
“Good, what happens when you summon those cards. What next?”
“That’s what I was confused about.”
“Perfect, you basically know everything. You’ll spend the rest of the day practicing to build up your intuitive skills and have it come as second nature to you.”
Out of nowhere we heard a loud explosion, followed by a vibrations that burst into us. I fell hard on my face and vision went blurry. Something bad happened. When I got up I saw people in the same position I was in, trying to regain their footing. What the fuck? Who attacked us? What was happening. I tried looking for Beth and I saw her collapsed on the ground a few feet away from me.
I ran towards her hoping nothing serious happened. I grabbed her back and shook her head.
“BETH!!” I shouted and her eyes twitched, Thank god. I carried her on my back and walked toward the mansion. Everyone was frantic, shouting, trying to figure what out what was the cause of this. I looked around a familiar figure was running towards me, Chris seemed to be looking us.
“Is she alright?” he asked as he reached us.
“I think she has a concussion, but thankfully she’s alright.” He nodded, not satisfied with my answer.
“We’ve been attacked,” he said as if speaking to the entire room, his voice focused everyone on him, “A bunch of Horders attacked the train station. Everyone evacuate to the fields and wait for further orders there.
You,” he Looked at me, “We’re getting you of the state.” I nodded and followed him outside the building. We fought our way through the crowd, Chris offering the occasional reassurance that everything was fine. As we exited the building and made our way into the carriage, I looked at Chris and stared at him, he looked away.
“There is no Horder attack, isn’t there?” he kept quiet. “It’s something much bigger, isn’t it? You literally explained that the Horders live on the mountains and that they barely attack any of the states. If they did attack they wouldn’t be here, unless they destroyed Marsina before getting to Idrisa. What hap--”
“Politics,” he cut me off “a lesser family, the Frols, staged a coup, and that was their first attack. They,” he was interrupted by a shot that was fired at our carriage. It came from the Coachman’s direction, oh fuck fuck fuck. I grabbed Beth and Chris dove for the door and we all jumped outside. I fell on my right arm and fell a crack on my shoulder and painfully rolled on the floor before stopping. I barely could get myself in a sitting position and my vision for the second time today was compromised, I tried looking for Beth and Chris and found them a bit away from me.
I heard horses footsteps heading towards us and I knew that they weren’t allies. A few moments later a dark stead came up to circled around us. I couldn’t make out his face but he wore dark formal clothing with a top hat.
“This world of ours,” he began his monologue like some villain out of a fantasy novel, “is dying and you Borber” he was talking to Chris, “you and your idiotic plan to try and save us with these Waijins. All a part of your hopeful fairytale book.”
“Burn in hell you fucking bitch,” said Chris, barely getting the words out. His body was failing him.
“Using foul language, Chris? You? The man with the utmost gentleman attitude. Didn’t think you’d turn into a dog the moment death comes close to you.”
“Don’t you da--” Chris’s face exploded as this man fired a rifle shot at him.
“NOO,” I shouted, a useless plea with my condition.
“Don’t worry, you’ll join him too,” he said before shooting me and I fucking died.
****
Darkness, again. I was beginning to grow familiar with the sensation of floating in an open void. Although, this time I can feel my body, wait. I wasn’t floating in vacuum, my eyes were shut. When I opened them, I saw myself in the operating room. I had hallucinated this whole thing.
