Chapter 32:

Beautiful and dangerous at the same time

How the wicked witch became the hero's sidekick

What happened? I remember that we fell into the portal. Then everything went black. It's dark around me, but blue lights seem to shimmer in the air. I don't know if I am dreaming or if I am just in a dark room. But as I look around, I see the others also sitting on the ground.

Now the little blue lights are getting more and more. Slowly they move up and down. The light spreads, and the shapes of creatures appear. Glowing jellyfish?

They float up and down as if they are swimming. Their tentacles snake through the air. They are spread out across a wide tunnel, so densely packed that it would be difficult to pass them without touching them.

"What is that?" Knox asks and looks fascinated at them.

"I don't know!" Lionel says, looking around tensely.

Oh, I know these creatures from the novel! That are...

"These are voltage jellyfish!" Sisli says seriously.

Knox goes nearer to the creatures.

"Knox, stop!" Sisli and I shout in sync.

But too late. Then one of the tentacles touches Knox's leg, and some kind of blue lightning flows through the tentacles and runs through his body. He shakes and falls back.

"Knox!" Caspian and Lionel shout.

Lionel and Caspian pull Knox away from the danger.

"I will heal him!" I shout.

Now I put my hands on Knox's chest to heal him. As the golden healing light goes out. He opens his eyes.

"Wow, that tickled quite a bit!" Knox says as he wakes up.

"Tickled? You were unconscious!" Caspian says, irritated.

"That was what I wanted to tell you! As the name says, the Voltage Jellyfishes are charged with electrical voltages. When you touch them, you get a severe electric shock.

"And how on earth are we supposed to get through this without ending up roasted?" Caspian asks.

Very good question. But in the novel, Rosa was the key to solve this issue. As I am not Rosa. We are lost... Rosa, as a real healer, was able to create a little protective barrier to bring everyone safe to the other side.

But I think I am not able to create a protection area. Expect healing; my powers are aligned to destroy...

"I don't know!" Sisli says.

"What if I shoot them with my arrows?" Caspian asks, thinking.

"They contain a big amount of electric voltage. If you hit one, they will explode. And if one explodes, then one after another will explode too and kill us all." I say.

"Exactly!" Sisli says.

"Then do you have another plan?" Caspian asks.

"Is there a way to discharge them so that they can't harm us anymore?" Knox asks.

"Only if we trigger them like you did! But you know what will happen then!" Sisli says.

"I have an idea. But I don't know if it will work." Lionel says.

"Speak up!" Sisli shouts.

"My sword has the power to absorb mana from its surroundings and use it in a concentrated manner. I can try to divert the electrical voltage with my sword!"

"You should know that the voltage of the different creatures can vary. So there is no guarantee that you survive this when it goes wrong." Sisli says with a serious look.

"I will try! We must not lose any time." Lionel says.

"You can't take such a big risk." Caspian says nervously.

"We have no other option!" Lionel says seriously.

"No. I should try. Maybe my healing powers are able to protect me!" I say.

Lionel shouldn't do that. It is my job to bring them safe to their happy ending.

"No! It is my turn to do something!" Lionel says with a serious face.

He is so determined that I probably won't be able to stop him.

"Ok. Then begin! I am prepared to heal you just in case!" I say.

Lionel raises his sword. And he swings it slowly along the thin tentacles. He doesn't cut them with his sword; he just touches them gently to absorb the electricity generated in this world by mana.

Increasingly, electricity flows rustling into his sword. He is visibly struggling to concentrate the energy in his sword. But it seems to work. But the energy seems to be overloading. His sword begins to flash more and more.

"What is happening?" Caspian asks, worried.

"The voltage becomes too high. He must unload his sword," I say.

Lightnings strike the ground, and the sword glows brighter and brighter. Lionel lifts his sword and rams it into the ground. Abruptly the voltage shoots into the ground.

"Is it safe now?" Sisli asks.

"I think so!" Lionel says a little exhausted.

"I will try," I say and slowly touch the tentacles of one jellyfish in front of me.

"No, wait!" Lionel shouts.

That tickles. I feel a slight electrical tension as I touch them. But it's nothing more than a slight tickle.

"It's safe!" I say, and gently nudge the jellyfish.

"Phew... that could have gone wrong!" he says, relieved.

I start to walk down the tunnel. The tentacles slide and occasionally stroke my shoulders or hands. It really only tickles a little bit. But above all, the sight is beautiful. The pleasant glow and the gentle swimming movements are truly calming and simply majestic.

The others follow me, and Lionel walks next to me.

"Are you fine?" I ask him.

"Yes. I am fine!" he says.

"It won't be long before the decisive battle begins. Are you ready for that?" I ask.

"I was ready from the beginning," Lionel says determined.

I hope that's enough to defeat the mage, I am a little worried. In the original story, the mage only used the princess to lure Lionel into the tower. If he uses Lionel as a blood sacrifice, he will be able to free his body, which is sealed in the tower, and leave the tower. Like in the original story, we must prevent this. Otherwise, we are close to the end of the world.

But back to reality. We've almost left the corridor behind us. Sisli and Knox are enthusiastically observing the jellyfish.

"Don't fall back!" calls Caspian, who seems still suspicious of the situation.

A massive, shimmering metallic door appears before us. Will this door finally lead us to the magician? Or will it just be another level designed to disable us?
