Chapter 40:
Heart Dream - How I Got To Chase My Dreams and Myself In Another World!
- "Mazanlold! Mazanlold!" - Caoilainn kept shouting and knocking on the wall until she coughed and her hands were hurting. When she stopped, she noticed she was panting and her heart was racing. Then, she sat down. As she tried to calm down, the tears came. Caoilainn looked down as tears salted her face and fell on the ground. The realization was tough, the walls, the irons bars, no more window and the deep loneliness she was in. She tried hard, but was not able to organize her thoughts.
When her tears started to dry, the Duke appeared on her cell making her go all the way to the corner scared. He smiled:
- "Don't worry Caoilainn, I came here to help." - she simply starred at him, ready to fight, even though she knew she had no chance in a fist fight. He kept his distance and said - "I am being honest, all I want it to talk with you." - she was dry:
- "I don't wanna talk." - the Duke replied gesticulating:
- "I understand how you feel, Caoilainn. You see, I know you are feeling scared and abandoned, I understand you" - he looked down - "I know what is it to be abandoned, despised and forgotten."
- "I am not abandoned or despised or forgotten! I have my friends! They will come for me!"
- "We shall see" Donisemon let a malicious smile - "but first, let's be positive and talk about dreams! I've heard you want to became the greatest mage of the land" - he spread his arms - "and it just happens that I can grant you that!" - she looked at the wall and said:
- "I don't believe you."
- "No? Well, us demons are acquainted with magic, and even more a Duke such as me" - he smiled - "also, one day I will make this kingdom mine. When that happens you will have power, statues, followers, everyone will recognize your greatness!" - she replied:
- "Let's say you are telling me the truth. What do I need to do?"
- "It's simple, you work for me as mage and warrior and abandon your friends" - he smiled again - "simple as that."
- "Never!" - she shouted - "I will never abandon then!"
- "Funny" - he laughed while Caoilainn starred at him. - "sorry, I can't help but laugh" - he laughed more - "it's just that Mazanlold has just sold you, so it's funny" - her eyes widened as she shouted:
- "What!?"
- "Yeah, that's true." - he shook his head and sat down - "I've just offered him to become my warrior and abandon you, and he accepted it. I didn't even offer him much, just good fights and a good retirement. It honestly surprised me" - he hided his smile - "I was ready to offer more, but it was not necessary at all."
- "I don't believe you." - she turned her head and looked angry.
- "Well, no problem" - Donisemon replied and pointed at outside the cage - "see this raven? It watches things for me and records it for later. I think we should see how my conversation with Mazanlold was" - as he said that, images were projected on the side of the wall, images of Donisemon and Mazanlold talking. The raven reproduced the sound, just like a film.
- "So, Mazanlold, you see, I am a very well informed Duke, and I know quite a few things about your dreams. I know you dream not only about being a good warrior, but about receiving recognition, honor and respect. You believe warriors must be honored for their efforts" - he bowed - "and I completely agree, people own much of their peaceful lives to warriors and should be grateful."
- "You are damn right, warriors deserve their part!" - now Mazanlold was listening.
- "Also, I know some other things" - Donisemon hided his smile - "I know about your father and grand father's sad fates" - Mazanlold looked at him with angry eyes - "and I am sorry about this. You see" - he spread his arms - "us demons are chaotic, but not unfair. It is humans who are unfair, ungrateful, unforgiving. I am truly worry, that their fate was so unfair" - he bowed.
- "So, you say you are sorry" - replied Mazanlold - "so what's your proposal?"
- "You see Mazanlold, that is the fate of human relationships:" - again he spread his arms - "disrespect, distrust, dishonor, betrayal and a deep unfairness." - he smiled - "what I propose you is freedom, freedom from this dirty pitiful unfairness of humans. You will be a warrior for me " - Donisemon gave Mazanlold some time to think. Mazanlold got up and walked a bit.
- "Okay, I need to admit you have some way with words." - Mazanlold replied - "however, I'm not dumb. What exactly are you proposing?" - Mazanlold smiled and answered:
- "It is simple. I propose that you serve a good master. A master that will give you purpose, and command respect. Everyone will have to honor you, you will fight, live with glory and also a rich and honorable retirement." - the Duke couldn't contain his smile - "of course, that master would be me." - Mazanlold breathed - "what do you say?"
- "It is a tempting proposition. You are offering much more than I can be assured of today. I'm in!" - Mazanlold said offering his hand.
- "Just one thing, you will have to abandon your friends, of course." - Donisemon smiled.
- "I don't care, I'm in." - Donisemon shook his hand with Mazanlold and they left the cell together.
Donisemon got up, gesticulated and said:
- "You see Caoilainn, that is the proof. I am sorry this has happened to you." - Caoilainn took a deep breath and looked down.
- "I don't believe you" - she said in a low voice - "but even if that happened, I know Richard and Isabella wouldn't leave me."
- "HA!" - he laughed even more - "you must see what my ravens have captured! Please know that I've sent then a letter about you being trapped. Let's see how they reacted!" - again a projection came up on the wall.
This time, there was no sound, but on the wall were projected Richard and Isabella walking on the beach, seen from above. She could see Isabella moving around playfully, stopping Richard and getting close at times. She could see them sitting together and laughing, watching the sunset together.
Donisemon pointed at the wall on which the images were being repeated and said:
- "See! They are all lovey-dovey on the beach without a care in the world! 'Who is Caoilainn?' Is what they would ask if just they remembered you!" - with that Caoilainn sat on the corner looking down.
After a few moments, Donisemon approached but not too much, leaned towards her and said:
- "I know how it is to be abandoned. Us demons are victims of prejudice and evil." - he looked at her, faking a nice smile - "if you accept to be my servant, not only will you get back at then, but you will also become a powerful magician with all I have. And then" - Donisemon gesticulated intensely - "people will bow before you, Caoilainn the Fair! The greatest mage of Omega Magus!" - not looking up she replied:
- "Okay, just give me some time to think." - her voice was very low. He replied:
- "Don't worry, I'm patient" - with that, he left the cage.
Caoilainn knew she was again left alone.
