Chapter 34:

The dreamwalker haunts everyone!

How the wicked witch became the hero's sidekick

In Sisli's illusion at the same time

I am Sisli. After we entered the portal, I find myself back in the Kodama village. It's spring, and everyone is doing their work. I am walking through the village. Then I see my uncle.

"Uncle!" I say and run into his arms.

"What is the matter?" he asks.

"I'm just happy that I'm back!"

"What are you talking about? You never left. A Kodama never leaves the village!"

"I didn't leave?..."

"Today there isn't much to do. Go, and have a little fun," he says.

"Okay!" I say, smiling.

I love it when I have free time or can avoid work.

I go to a large tree and climb the branches. This is always the best place to rest in the sun. After a few minutes, I kept changing my position. Hmm, maybe I should check out what the others are doing.

I climb down and check what the others are doing. Everyone is happy and does what they do every day. It is just boring. I want to meet the others.

I walk back to my uncle.

"Uncle, I want to leave the village and meet the others!" I say confidently.

"Meet the others? You know no one outside this village. Where do you want to go?" he asks.

"Did you forget Aria the witch, Lionel the hero, and the two who chopped down one of our trees?"

"Did you have a bad dream? All of our trees are fine. And I never heard these names. Go home and rest a bit!" he says.

Never heard their names, and all trees are fine. That can't be right. Something is wrong.

"Uncle... I will leave the village right now!"

"No, stay here!" he says.

"I have to go! Something strange is happening here!"

"I said no!" he shouts loudly with a weird voice.

"You are not my uncle!" I shout. I always gave him trouble, but he never yelled at me even once.

"Didn't you want to go back to the village? Even if you can't anymore?" a voice shouts out of nowhere.

"Do you want to see what would really happen?"

Everything around me seems darker. And the Kodamas' eyes glow reddish. Everyone is starting to blame me now.

"You have violated our most important law."

"You are hereby banished."

"Get lost!"

Then I look to my uncle.

"I no longer have a niece!" my uncle shouts.

Even if none of this is real, it makes me sad. I know I can't go back. I cover my ears and get on my knees. I don't want to hear this.

But I'm not alone. I still have the others.

I stand up again.

"Whoever you are, you miserable creature, you don't scare me. Get lost and take your illusion with you, or face the consequences!" I shout.

"Consequences from a little Kodama like you? Do you think you are important to them? You are not really a help to them!" the voice says.

"I broke the law to save the lives of two of my friends. I regret nothing. They promised to never leave me alone. And I believe them. So I am leaving now. So shove your illusions somewhere else!" I say and use big vines to break down the illusion around me. Everything shatters and disappears in dark smoke.

In Caspian's Illusion at the same time

I am Caspian. After we walked through the portal, I find myself in the capital of the kingdom, named Kingsgate. I am on the marketplace in the hustle and bustle of a festival. Then Lionel comes to me.

"There you are, Caspian!" Lionel shouts.

"Hey Lionel, what happened here?" I ask, as I have obviously no idea what's going on.

"Don't play dumb. We celebrate our victory against the mage of the north."

Weren't we just about to defeat the mage? We crossed a portal just a moment... My memories are blurry. What did I question again... Who cares?

"Nice! Then let’s have a drink!" I say and grab Lionel on the shoulder.

Then we treat ourselves to a beer at a stand in the hustle and bustle and sit down at a table.

"It is weird that everything is over!" Lionel says.

"Yes, it feels like a dream. By the way, where are the others?" I say.

"They're having fun at the parade. They'll surely join us soon. It has been a long time since we had the time to sit and talk alone together," Lionel says.

"Are you getting sentimental now?" I ask.

"Probably a little. We are family after all." Lionel says.

He is right. We met in the orphanage when we were six. He was a serious and introverted boy even then. I've always been open and charismatic, which naturally helped me win his heart.

No, I don't even believe that myself. It took a lot of work since he always ignored me at first. But after some time he opened up to me. That was when we became best friends and family for each other at the same time.

But then, when we were older, priests from the church appeared in the orphanage and took Lionel with them, because he was chosen by the gods as the hero of this land. I wanted to come with him, but they wouldn't let me in because I was a nobody. Just an orphan with no future. Lionel had no choice. But I decided to become strong and stand on Lionel's side in the future. So I ran away from the orphanage and joined a hermit who taught me how to hunt. A very talented hunter and a womanizer. I was able to learn a great deal from that man, even though it took a lot of convincing him to take me on as his apprentice.

After that I kept sneaking onto the temple grounds to meet Lionel until we were able to go on missions together.

"Caspian, are you in thoughts? You stared in the air for some time," Lionel asks me.

"Yes, sorry. I just thought about everything we got through together. We have known each other for quite a long time." I say.

"Look, there are the others!" Lionel says.

Knox, Sisli, Aria, and also Cecil come to us.

"Wow, Cecil! We haven't seen each other for a long time!" I say.

He wears a light blue uniform. The same color as his eyes and middle-length hair. Princess Irene has the same eye and hair color. A distinguishing feature typical of the royal family.

"Didn't we see each other one hour ago?" he asks.

Really? I am not myself right now.

"Yes... an hour can be a long time," I say nervously.

Then Lionel walks to Aria, and they start holding hands? They look so close and happy. What did I miss? Then they give each other a kiss. Wait a moment... what?! To see Lionel so lovey-dovey. And kissing? That can't be true! I know they liked each other, but that?

"Are you a couple?" I ask, irritated.

"Stop pretending. You have known that for some time!" Lionel says.

That's weird. Then I see a beautiful woman walking by. Probably I should get away for a moment to clear my mind.

"Excuse me for a moment. I will check out the beautiful woman there." I say and stand up.

"Stop joking. You are the boyfriend of my beautiful sister! Have you already forgotten?" Cecil says and slaps me on my shoulder.

What? boyfriend of his sister? Does he mean princess Irene? That can't be true. She always had an eye on Lionel. I am a nobody. I know that too good. So besides my love for her, I always threw myself into making acquaintances with other women. Even if I can't completely banish her from my heart.

Then Irene comes over and throws herself on my arm.

"There you are, honey!" she says, smiling.

As much as I want to, but...

"No, that can't be true. What are you going to tell me next, that Aria is pregnant? Forget it, no one here is fooling me anymore!" I shout and step back.

Then they all disintegrate to dust.

Suddenly, a creepy voice appears out of nowhere and manifests in a dark, creepy figure.

"You don't want to be happy? How stupid of you!" the voice shouts.

"I want to be happy in reality. I don't want this shit!" I shout confidently, but still nervous.

Then the others appear again, but with red, creepy-looking eyes, and shout at me.

"You are a nobody!"

"No one loves you!"

That could really hurt. If they were real.

"I've been insulted so many times. Do you think that bothers me? I might be a no one, but not for the people who are worth it." I say confident.

The figure starts to come nearer and nearer. I look to the side. The window is open.

"I find the way out myself!" I say. Then I run to the window and throw myself through the glass.

With the glass, everything around me, the whole illusion, also cracks into thousands of pieces.
