Chapter 28:
Dragon's Laud
A few days passed since Sheldon and I had our fight. Currently I am hiding in a tree so I don't have to be a life sized doll for Amaya. The way she stares and her hands linger too long just... My body shakes trying to get the thought out of my head and the memory of her touch off. But I shake a little too hard and nearly fall out the tree. Catching myself with a limb in my hands and one with the ankles of my feet, I hear Amaya talking to Olive not far away.
"I can't believe he is hiding!" Amaya complains to Olive. "I go out of my way. I guess its not really out of my way when its for him. Anyways I spend so much time on designing these outfits and he won't hold still for fitting. If he would stop growing like Mitus did when he filled out, I wouldn't have to keep measuring him. Not that I mind taking his measurements. Don't give me that face Olive if you were a human you would be wanting to bury your face in his chest too."
Olive sighs. "You need to pick a path and stick to it."
"What does that mean?" Amaya says putting her hands on her hips. Her long black hair is curly today. Her white tank barely covers her chest and her pink skirt is a little on the shorter side. She kicks a stone with her black boots she always wears.
They are standing below me. Amaya is now facing away from me while Olive could see me if she looks up just slightly.
"It means you can't be talking about Ragon and Mitus like this. I have watched you sketch in your books all these outfits and other pictures of both of those boys." Says Olive. "You should pick one to devote yourself to."
"Why should I? I'm single. And I am definitely not going to be like Arata with his devotion." Amaya defends her actions.
"What Arata has going on isn't the healthiest." Olive agrees. She glances up to see me hanging uncomfortably by my hands and feet in the tree. Without skipping a beat she goes back to her conversation. "What you should do is give your attention to just one so there are no mixed signals. For all we know, since we haven't talked to them, is they believe you're interested in the other guy. Meaning they aren't going to go against your wishes and make a confession."
"Why do you always make sense." Amaya whines. "Fine. I will pick Ragon since he does have the better bod."
Olive takes a second to look at my upset face before replying. "So you're going to throw away history for something that will for sure fade with age."
Yea Olive! Make her not want me pleeeeease. And please move her away from here! My arms hurt.
Bahahaha this is great entertainment.
I know I'm in a meditative state right now trying to not move and ignore pain but did you really have to show up?
Get over it. I was bored. This is entertaining.
You know when she dresses me up, she is also dressing you up too. Do we need to talk about the frilly pink shirt.
How do we get out of this situation? We might be able to make a run for it that way by the rock.
We are too close. Olive will be able to sink me in mud before I get too far and then we will end up having to take a bath.
Gah! Don't even say the word.
"Well yea Mitus and I have history of being friends. There is no way he sees me as a girl though. He might be big, strong, muscular and dependable but he is a pacifist. Ragon isn't afraid of a fight." Explains Amaya.
"So you only like people that hurt others? Then why not be with Gilton. He has hurt many." Olive says walking over and lays under the tree I'm hanging from.
What are you doing!? What have I done to deserve this?
"Why do you twist words." Amaya sighs before sitting under the tree with Olive. Then she points off to a big pine tree. "Weren't we over there when he had our last big fight?"
"We were. And no I don't twist words. I make you look from different angles." Olive says.
"Really?" Amaya asks.
"What? Not wanting to be with someone because they believe hurting others is bad just makes you sound like a horrible person." Olive retorts.
"It's not that I don't like someone being a pacifist but I also don't want someone that won't fight for me." Amaya sighs closing her eyes and tilting her head back against the tree.
"You would be surprised what one will do to protect a loved one." Olive states.
"And you know this? Not just a theory?" Amaya retorts looking back to Olive.
"You should know it too." Olive replies.
"Why would, are you bringing up our last fight?" Amaya groans and leans back into the tree closing her eyes.
"We were fighting over our families then. You were telling me how horrible it was to always have your parents tell you what to do, along with them coming and going so much and that your parents didn't care for you. And I told you at least you had parents still, for mine were taken away from me. I have no idea where they're at or even if they are alive." Olive recalls their fight.
"I felt so bad after telling you how my parents where still alive. And how I hated them. I know my parents don't act like they care but being out here these last two years, they have reached out to me more. It might have something to do with our conversation we had. But I'm not as harsh with them anymore probably because I know one day they could be gone like your parents." Amaya looks sad.
"Then we talked through why they were gone so much. They were working to try to keep the roof over your head, clothes on you (even though you barely wear any), food and schooling. They were trying their best but sadly you were left alone a lot." Olive gives her a nuzzle.
Amaya leans into Olive. "At least we have each other right?"
"I am happy we have each other." Olive says. "Now it's time for the hider to come out."
"Hider?" Amaya is confused.
I am also confused til a geyser sprays me right in the face. Losing my grip, I fall to the ground. Olive looks over at me nonchalantly. Amaya on the other hand screams and covers her mouth with her hands. She murmurs to herself asking if Olive knew this whole time that I was in the tree.
"Yea, I knew he was close by from his scent but once I found him I had to mess with him. All because he forgot what day it is." Explains Olive.
"I don't know what day it is. Tuesday? No Thursday? The only day I care about right now is TDT day. Last I knew that day was a few months off. Or did the months go by again?" I ask confused.
"Last year you had a gotcha day party since we didn't have birthdays. Today is the second year since gotcha day and you haven't said a word. Amaya drew a picture of me for my present." Olive states.
"That's today!?"
"Yes." Replies Olive.
"How could you forget? Aren't they important to you?" Amaya folders her arms while looking down at me.
"I'm so sorry I forgot. Yes you, Sheldon, Leaf, Pearl and Dre all mean the world to me. You know I'm bad with days. Can I make it up to you?" I ask.
"First for punishment. You will hold still for Amaya to try out this new outfit." Olive declares.
"I thought you were on my side." I whisper to Olive.
"I am. This new outfit though, Amaya spent a lot of time for you humans to have matching outfits when we go free Sonja. Also we have to CONSIDER her FEELINGS but do not forget OUR OWN." Olive explains while dropping very subtle hints.
She's right, I should tell Amaya that I am not interested in her.
"So Ragon. You heard our conversation earlier." Amaya goes from her outgoing self to a shy girl.
"Yes I did." My nerves are on edge because its never easy to tell someone you aren't interested in them. I get up brushing myself off.
"So, umm." Amaya starts.
"Amaya, I'm sorry I do not have any romantic feelings for you." I tell her as nicely as I can with a bow.
"I had a feeling." Amaya replies with tears in her eyes. "Can we still be friends?"
"I don't see why not. Though I will say, it's going to be awkward for a bit." I laugh nervously.
"Oh you have no idea." She murmurs and laughs with me. "Should we get the outfit measurements over with?"
"I have no way of escaping so might as well." I say looking over at Olive.
"I think you will really like this one." Amaya pulls out her sketchbook. There is a fairly detailed sketch of me in it. She has me drawn with a fitted shirt and slightly baggy pants. A leather jacket goes with the outfit along with my lace up boots.
I actually look like one of them movie stars from TV.
"This is really good! Isn't this what you want to do for a living?" I ask.
"If I could open a clothing store, I would be so happy." Amaya smiles up at me.
"Well I'm sure all of us can help you with that. Just have to wait til we are done with rescuing Sonja. Even though I'm sure she is having a blast in that mansion." I tell Amaya.
"I would be so greatful if you all helped me with getting a shop up and going. But at the same time I want it to be my own. Does that make sense?" Amaya says with a small smile.
"I get that. Things are better when you work for them and not handed to you." I smile back.
"Thank you. You're right about Sonja though. When we talk to her she is always up to something." Amaya giggles.
"That she is." I chuckle.
"Come on Amaya let's get to work on that outfit." Says Olive.
Then Amaya and I had a very awkward measurement taking time.
