Chapter 27:

- Lyla -

My Life As A Dungeon Lord's Assistant

Lyla hopped into the ensuing chaos. She pokes her head around the awestruck men.

“Hmmm…?” Lyla looks around confused, “Why is everyone fighting?”

“Th-They are demons!” A knight shouts, “They desecrate this holy trial hall!”

She tilts her head.

“Demons?”
“They’re my friends!” She cheerfully announces,

“P-Princess…” The chancellor attempts to placate, “You really shouldn’t be here…”

“Ah! Look there’s a man in the statue,” she points, “Ahahaha!”

It seems during their imprisonment the Justiciar found that lyla was in fact the long lost princess of Aurelion. Her birth mark was revealed when the nuns attempted to heal her.

“Gah! Why didn’t the assassin David eliminate her!” the chancellor whispered under his breath.

“Ah! Are you talking about Davee?!” she beams, “I’ll tell you!”

She makes a serious face. Everyone holds their breath in anticipation.

“True WUV!!~” she announces with a wink,

“...” he was at a loss for words,

“This guy's a real meanie!” Lyla squeals, “Can we get someone else?”

“Yes ma’am.” A high ranking official says next to the chancellor,

“No! All my work!” he shouts, “All that are still loyal to Saint Justina! Come with me!”

Without a second thought the chancellor absconds with his staff and knights out of the chamber.

“A-After him!” The high ranking official orders,

The remaining guards give chase.

In the great chaos the crowd stood there dumbstruck. After a time one voice calls out from the crowd.

“A-All hail Queen Lyla..?”

Soon the rest follow suit with varying levels of confidence.

ALL HAIL QUEEN LYLA!

……

Later on in the royal chamber, Taro was dumbstruck at the events that unfolded just moments prior.

Akari was kicking back on a nearby couch with her feet up playing with the portable game console that Taro gave her so many years ago, how it still had batteries was a mystery to even Taro. Aoi looked out from the balcony down at the people below.

“Heheh...” she laughs to herself, “So small… So insignificant… Hehehe…”

A shudder went down Taro’s back.

Elaine lifelessly stood somewhere in the room. Taro goes to see her, but Lyla gets to her first.

“Oh hey! Jooster girl!” she beams, “Why’re you still in those rags?”

She was referring to Elaine’s ragged Justiciar armor. All of the emblems were scratched off.

“I can get you some new ones!” Lyla offers,

“It’s… okay…” she answers, “I don’t deserve the Justiciar mark…”

“Why?” the queen asks cluelessly, “I don’t get it.”

“I’ve betrayed my own principles and then my own order…” Elaine bites her lower lip.

“You’ve protected your friends, the innocent, and those that could not fight for themselves, no?~” Lyla says happily, “...I’d say that makes you more Justiciar than anyone else.”

“...”

“Oh kayy…” the queen shrugs and hops away happily to attend to other matters.

Taro puts a hand on Elaine’s shoulder.

“Isn’t that great, Elaine?” Taro reassures her,

“...” Elaine looks away from him.
“Can you not look at me right now…”

“I want to cry for a bit.”

Taro gives her a handkerchief and lets her have a moment to herself.

……

Later on in the night Taro meets with the queen.

“Lyla.” he calls out to her.

“Oh, Taro! What’s up?~” she responds,

“What happened today? You’re the queen of Aurelion?” Taro asks,

“Uhmm Maybe?”

“You’re not sure?!” Taro was dumbfounded by the airy royalty,

“Yeah! I’m the type that doesn’t remember much about my childhood, ya know~” she answers confidently, “I did run away when I was a teen tho~”

“With David?” he completes her thought,

“Yup!” the queen glows thinking about her lover, “He swept me off my feet! What a hunk!~ We had a beautiful 5 years exploring and adventuring!”

“Haha… I see,” Taro laughs awkwardly,

“Ahh… It was so much better than my old life~”

“Yeah.. You don’t like living like royalty?” he inquires,

“Hmm no? It’s alright despite it being kind of boring,” she admits, “I mean my old, old life… When I used to live in Japan as a salary woman.”

“Ah… I see. I see…” Taro nods instinctively.

“Wait?!”Taro freezes, “WHAT?!

Turns out Lyla was a fellow isekai-er. She had died in a tragic kidnapping gone wrong and was reborn into royalty with all of her memories and gifted with a near infinite amount of mana. Taro grits his teeth hearing all of the benefits that were afforded to her.

“It should’ve been me!” Taro seethes on his knees, and hits the ground with his fists.

“Ahahaha!” She was in hysterics,”You get to summon things from your old room?! Ahyahyahya!!”

Taro snaps,

“S-Shut up! It’s not funny!”

The outburst only served to fuel her hysterics further.

“Gyahyahyahyahya!” she cackles, “Can I get a diet coke from you Ahahahaha!?!”

Despite his reluctance, he delivers the soft drink to her. After she calms down she enjoys the drink.

“Mmm!” she swoons, “It’s good! That Amata juice or whatever doesn’t really compare to the real thing hahaha!”

This moment is interrupted by a guard that bursts into the room.

“My queen!” he comes in exasperated, “There's trouble!”

“Ehhh?... Really?~~” she continues to sip her drink, “ Can’t you guys deal with it?~”

“N-No! Ma’am!” he insists, “The chancellor-! He seeks to incite a revolt in the capital!”

Looking at each other, Taro and Lyla rush to the balcony.

They were met with a large crowd with pitch forks and torches.

“Down with the monarchy!” The ex chancellor chants, “Down with executive authority, afforded solely to individuals!!”

“(Weren’t you just enjoying the benefits of such an arrangement, Chancellor?)” Taro thinks,

“Weren’t you just enjoying the benefits of such an arrangement, Chancellor?!” Lyla shouts to the former chancellor below,

“Silence! You bumbling makeup hound!” He shouts back,

“That’s blasphemy!” the guard besides them adds,

“I don’t care! Attack!!”

The three return into the tower.

“Taro.” Lyla pleads to the young boy, “I don’t want to hurt them! But-”

“You don’t want them to succeed in their coup either…” Taro finishes her sentence.

“Mm” she nods, “Can you help?”

“I’ll do my best, your majesty…”
