Chapter 27:
I died and to save my soul from oblivion I need to save another world
Lionheart sumbled towards the giant ice cocoon. His right arm was not bleeding, his sword completely shattered and he barely had any breath left. The fight left him with nothing left.
She got even stronger…
If there's a next time, maybe I won't be able to beat her…
The cocoon started to disintegrated into thousand miniscule ice pieces. It was almost like snow, if not that the consistence of the ice was a lot sturdier than snow.
Is she there?
He had to focus to see what was happening. The chain was broken it was slowly disappearing into golden particles, lighting the cloudy skies above his head. He didn't know what to feel while seeing that, he was partially to blame.
The strongest seal was broken.
There was bound to be quite a chaotic age to come. And he was there to see the moment everything began; he couldn't know how his life was bound to evolve from there on. The prophecy of [ECHOES] already completed after all.
He was interested only in one thing. And that thing lied in the center of the cocoon, exactly in the point the chain broke.
I knew it
Since the moment I saw it in the mansion
I was brought here as a piece in a larger puzzle. And [ECHOES] objective couldn't be anything other than the chain. The moment I saw your awakening; I understood that you were the one capable of breaking the strongest chain to have ever existed.
He managed to lay his eyes on her. She was exactly when he expected her to be, and exactly in the point that proved that she was the reason for the breaking of the chain.
Now, only one thing was left for him to do.
He walked towards her.
It's the final act.
*
I open my eyes.
More importantly, I regain senses all over my body. It's hot, two arms are around me. I look around, the chain is no more. I really managed to break it.
"We did it Gabbro!"
I receive no response.
Actually, it's warm…
His body is warm.
That's strange. He's the conceptualization of heat death, and he's the one that cooled me off, then why is he warm.
"Gabbro? Gabbro?"
I panic, take myself out of his hands and look through his helmet. His beautiful eye was closed…but I saw something else, something new. His lips. He was smiling. Tears fall down my eyes.
"I hope you're ready to face your family…I'm sure you'll be given the chance to now. Goodbye Gabbro."
I lay his body on the ground and touch his chest. Without him I would be a mass murderer and surely my mission would be far from over. Maybe Arthesya would have been satisfied with that, but I wouldn't.
I really want nothing more than mourn Gabbro a little more, but I feel steps behind me.
I raise on my legs and turn around.
A beautiful blonde knight was there.
But he was far from the perfect handsome guy that usually bothered me while around the city. He was bloody, tired, a Lionheart I had never seen before.
"Are you going to die on me too?"
"Do you really want to joke now?"
"I don't really know how else to react…say no please."
"No. But I'm here to finish what I started."
"And what's that?"
I still have no idea how to use my power. He's most likely here to kill me.
"We got interrupted."
He stretches his only working arm to offer me a hand.
"Would you give me a dance?"
I smile.
"I never received a dance proposal from a bloodied gentleman."
"I'm here to gift you new experiences every time you want!"
"Idiot…"
I reach for his hand and take it.
This time, I want to live. It doesn't matter where destiny leads me, it doesn't matter if I have to break it again. I don't want to give up.
To keep living.
This is what destiny has in store for me.
