Chapter 34:

No loud noises allowed.

The wrong way to use magic in another world.

I tried to take a look at Astra's wound on her back.

Astra- “Oh, how bold, Leo. Staring at me from behind.” said Astra with her usual soothing voice.

She was probably still in pain, but she tried to hide it.

Leonel- “Astra, are you sure you can heal yourself? Or would you rather use another regeneration amulet?”

Astra- “Don’t worry. It's just going to take a while, but I will be able to fully heal myself.”

Astra just smiled at me, but I knew she wasn't okay.

Leonel- “Astra, there is yet another problem to deal with.”

Astra- “What is it?”

Faylinn- “With so many nara suddenly appearing in town, it's very likely that the bald bastard is still around, hiding somewhere nearby.”

Gabriela- “He is still nearby!?”

Alejandro- “That's probably the case. We need to be ready in case he shows up again.”

Astra- “If he is still around, then we should probably try to find him as soon as possible. In one or two days he will be able to use his fire spell again.”

Leonel- “Then how do we find him? It's not like he is gonna be hiding inside a wooden crate. He is not stupid.”

Astra- “There is someone who might be able to help us, but only you, Leo, can request her help.”

Leonel- “Oh dear... I know...”

Faylinn- “Ohhh, are we visiting the blue lady again?”

Astra- “You are staying just outside the building, Faylinn.”

Leonel- “It's probably better if everyone stays just outside the building. The bookstore owner doesn't like noises.”

I guided everyone to the bookstore and had everyone wait outside while I went to talk to Aku.

Leonel- “Uhm... excuse me, I'm back.”

Aku- “I see...”

She was probably not very happy.

Aku- “What was the ruckus outside? I heard a lot of loud noises and people screaming.”

I guess she didn't even know the nara attacked and killed a bunch of people in town. She really lives in her own little world.

Leonel- “Well... it seems that a lot of different kinds of nara appeared in town. Lots of people ended up wounded or dead.”

Aku- “I see... At least they didn't destroy my bookstore.”

Leonel- “So... we need some help. We need to find some blue crystals the size of a human hand that someone may have left in different places all over town.”

Aku- “Blue crystals? What are they? And why are you asking me?”

Leonel- “Well, the person who left those crystals all over town is a dangerous criminal, a murderer, and we need to find those things quickly. But we also need to find this criminal who is probably still hiding in town.”

Aku- “I still don't understand why you come to me when you could have asked the guards.”

Leonel- “Ok, it's fine if you don't believe me, but a kid saw this man shattering those blue crystals to summon the nara.”

Aku- “Summoning the nara using crystals!? Is that even possible!?” She was very surprised to hear this.

Leonel- “If we assume it's possible, would there be a way to detect them?”

Aku- “Yes, there is an easy way. Have everyone temporarily leave town. Then you will be able to easily detect any crystals filled with mana. And if this criminal is hiding in town, and he stays in town after everybody leaves, then detecting his body's mana emissions will be easy.”

Leonel- “So, how do I detect mana around town? Is there a tool or magic spell needed?”

Aku- “Just a simple dowsing pendant. It can be prepared to react to mana emissions above a certain level so that it can effectively ignore tiny mana crystals or random plants.”

Leonel- “Do you happen to have one?”

Aku- “Yes, but I don't want gold in exchange for it.”

Leonel- “Then what do you want?”

Aku- “I want you to bring me one of those crystals when you find them.”

Leonel- “Ok... sounds acceptable, I guess.”

An odd request, but she is probably being driven by curiosity. People in this world didn't know about the possibility of summoning the nara using these blue crystals.

Aku- “Good! I'll get you one right away.”

I gladly accepted the pendant from Aku, but now we had to figure out how to get everyone to temporarily leave town.

Leonel- “Thanks , Aku. I'll go talk to the guards now. Maybe they will cooperate with me.”

I left the bookstore. Everyone was waiting for me.

Leonel- “So... guys, we need to convince everyone to temporarily leave town. Any ideas?”

Faylinn- “Ehh!? What do you mean!? Did the blue lady finally go crazy and now she can't stand the noises of the townsfolk?”

Astra- “Faylinn, I don't think that's the case. Leo, please explain.”

I told everyone what I heard from Aku and how we were supposed to use this pendant, and our conclusion was to rely on Faylinn.

Astra- “Faylinn was the one who defeated the most nara in town. In the eyes of the town guards, she is their saviour. She might be able to convince them that the town has to be temporarily evacuated.”

Faylinn- “Sure! I'll do it!”

Alejandro then brought one of the guards so Faylinn could do all the talking.

Guard- “What's going on? Are there any more nara around here?”

Faylinn- “Excuse me, Mister Guard, lots of nara appeared recently. They appeared one after another, it almost seemed as if the whole thing was never going to end, but... there is a chance it's not really over yet. More of them might appear soon. Can we really be sure that the battle is over?”

Guard- “You are right, little draconer. We need to stay vigilant. Also, I would like to extend my gratitude for helping save our town!”

Faylinn- “No need to thank me, but the nara might still be around and they might appear anytime soon. Just to be safe, we should evacuate the town for a while. And if it turns out there are no nara left in town, then we can tell people to return to their homes.”

Guard- “Oh, that's a good idea. We might be able to avoid further deaths!”

Faylinn- “Yeah, and once everybody leaves, we will explore the town to see if there are any enemies left. Leave it to us!”

Guard- “We will gladly accept your help, little draconer!”

And just like that, the guard went to convince the other guards to evacuate the town.

Faylinn- “Man, that was easy, but I wish he wouldn't call me "little draconer".”

Astra- “Maybe in a few hundred years they will call you "mid-sized draconer". Hehe.”

Faylinn- “What do you mean, you old hag!”

Astra- “O-o-o-old hag!?”

Leonel- “Girls, calm down! There is no time to fight!”

We waited until the evacuation was complete before we could start searching for the crystals.
I expected something to go wrong, as usual.
I just hoped things weren't going to be that bad.
