Chapter 41:
The wrong way to use magic in another world.
The next step was to inform the guards about what had happened and have them bury the bald bastard's body, as that was Maria and Gabriela's request. They prayed for his soul even though the guy had tried to kill us.
We also asked the guards for some robes for Asterlinn. It seemed her new clothes weren't fireproof. By the time the battle ended, her clothes had been reduced to ashes. So, we were going to have to buy some new clothes for her.
We all gathered in front of the wagon to discuss the next course of action.
I was now getting used to having reduced strength in my right leg. Even standing still was not easy. But I wasn't sure I was going to get used to the fact that my right arm was gone forever... Life was going to become a bit harder from now on. As if living in this world wasn't hard enough for us.
Leonel: So... what do we do now? The bastard is gone. We cannot return to Earth, and the prophecy has been around for thousands of years and nothing ever happened.
Alejandro: Leo has a point. Somebody summoned us to fight some demon prince and a demon king, but, apparently, they have been summoning people for years, and the demon army never invaded.
Xiomara: And even if the army invaded this kingdom, we would have no chance of stopping them with our powers.
Gabriela: So... are we staying here for the rest of our lives?
Leonel: That seems to be the case...
Maria: We will just have to get used to it. We should find a place to live, a job, and perhaps become friends with the locals. That's how we can have a relatively normal life in this world. We just have to avoid danger.
Alejandro: The Church of Mother Nature was helping us when we didn't know where to stay or what to do. Maybe we should go to them.
Gabriela: That sounds like a good idea.
Leonel: I'm gonna have to go somewhere else. Sorry, guys.
Alejandro: What!? Where are you going?
Leonel: I promised Faylinn and Astra that I would help them find their family. And I also want to find out what Marcus was searching for.
That was when Asterlinn approached us, still wearing the black robes she got from the guards, as we hadn't bought her new clothes yet.
Asterlinn: You no longer need to help me find my family. Now that I'm back to my original form, I have regained my memories.
Leonel: Really!? Do you know where to find them!? I was suddenly very excited.
Asterlinn: They cannot be found anywhere.
Maria: Do you mean... they...
Asterlinn: They never existed. I never had a family.
Leonel: What do you mean?
Asterlinn: I had always been traveling through the outer void beyond the skies, always alone, until I accidentally fell asleep and crash-landed on this planet. That was when my body split into two. That was five years ago.
Leonel: So... you are a meteor draconer? Or a meteor dragon?
Asterlinn: Something like that.
Maria: I guess you must feel lonely now that you remember that you never had a family...
Asterlinn: That's something that can be easily fixed. I heard that it's possible to instantly acquire a family by receiving a golden ring from a person who cares about you.
Maria: Oh... are you talking about...
Alejandro: Ohhh, she is not holding back!
Leonel: Eh...?
Asterlinn: And since Leo promised he would buy some new clothes for me, he can probably take a little detour to buy a golden ring in town. This would solve my problem of not having a family. Also, now that I'm just one person instead of two, Leo's indecisiveness will no longer be an issue.
Leonel: Ehhhhhh!!!!????
Asterlinn: Oh, right, it's not just one ring. It's supposed to be two matching golden rings. Leo, you also need to buy one for yourself. I will be waiting here.
Gabriela: Are they really...?
Xiomara: Well, this is an interesting development.
Asterlinn went to sit on the wagon while staring at me.
And that's how I received a new quest in this world: buying girl's clothes... and two matching golden rings...
