Chapter 26 - Kon part 2

I’ve spent a lot of time leveling up with Yuuma and Yumemi, the two legged figures… or should I say, Humans. Yuuma is a male like me and my Pa, and Yumemi is a female like my Ma.

We went through hardships and crazy situations together, and somehow survived near-death situations.

I have grown bigger, even bigger than my Ma and Pa, or any of my kins ever! It is a shame that I can’t snuggle into Yuuma’s warm clothes again though.

I’m able to use magic too! That made me feel really strong!

But still… I don’t think we’re on a match with that monster… that Wolf…

These two are going along with the idea to defeat that monster with me, but I don’t think they have any reason to do so if they didn’t see the slaughter happen to my kins.

From what I can tell, these two do not belong here. They came from another place I know nothing about.

These two are also getting along pretty well… like Ma and Pa? I just feel that way.

I had a guess Yumemi had felt that way towards Yuuma since we met, but it was so weird to see Yuuma suddenly give the same atmosphere too ever since he touched her mouth with his own, and after he leveled up to level 14.

They talked about regaining memories or something, but I don’t really understand what that means nor I can ask them since they can’t exactly understand what I said.

Yumemi got a lot more spoiled to Yuuma, asking so many pats. Yeah, I know.

I love when Yumemi hugged me, and her big soft chest is like a nice spot to sleep on, but her petting technique is nowhere near Yuuma’s hands. Yuuma’s petting is just so majestic…

“Wait, I want some petting too!”

The cave has changed a lot than it was supposed to be. All the tunnels are connected by the hole created by the Wolf’s digging, making monsters from each path clash and kill each other.

We found some strong monsters here and there, and thanks to that, it is easier for all of us to gain EXP.

The main problem is, that also works for that Wolf too. It was slightly bigger the second time we encountered it, so that doesn’t close the possibility of it getting bigger again as it kept going around killing some monsters.

… One day, we found some bones lying on the ground while looking around.

I stopped to see every bone that smelled the same, and imagined how they look when they are combined… wait, they are humans’? The second set, the third set, and the fourth set… I tried to combine them in my head, and it’s indeed similar to Yuuma and Yumemi.

They got some of the Wolf’s smell lingering… so that means the Wolf is the one who killed these humans?

When I look at Yuuma and Yumemi’s reactions, there is no doubt about it. They already guessed it.

… I can’t help but imagine what if those two… ended up like these 4 humans…

I DON’T WANT THAT!

Yumemi lost her ability to stand up due to shock, so Yuuma had to carry her back to the safe zone. I still don’t really understand how the safe zone works, but at least I know it is safe from monsters attacks.

After Yumemi recovered, they shouted to call another human that might still be alive.

Ah, one male human is coming! Ah, he’s being chased by monsters, so we defeated them quickly and let the human enter the safe zone.

Yuuma dragged the lizardman’s body in, maybe he wanted to make a new weapon from it? Or maybe armor like what Yumemi just did?

Yumemi and I went to check on how the human is doing, but it seems like he isn’t looking good.

He started to freak out, and I couldn't understand anything he said. He then started to point a sharp object at me, and clearly is being hostile towards me. Of course, I have no obligation to be nice to him, so I growled back at him.

Yuuma pinned the human down, and hurt his own hand in the process.

How dare that human make Yuuma’s precious hand bleed like that! What if he doesn’t pet me as well as before!?

Yuuma told me to stay away and let him handle the situation, since for some reason I was hated by the human male… ah.

I just realized that his scent… he’s been together with the 4 humans’ remains from before!

… but of course, I can’t tell Yuuma and Yumemi, nor do I know what happened between him and the other humans just by sniffing his scent.

I also don’t want to forgive him for pointing that thing at me and trying to attack me.

I finally followed what Yuuma told me, and maintained some distance so I won’t bother the human male and the human male won’t bother me.

After Yuuma had successfully persuaded the human male to calm down, the human male sat down and started to talk. I can’t understand anything the human male said, but he started bothering Yuuma and Yumemi.

Well, I know the two of them can handle the situation, so I don’t really move to help them.

But… that human male… stabbed the sharp weapon to his own throat. A spray of red fluid ran wild from the wound, and then the human male body fell down to the ground.

I ran to their side out of worriness. Both of them got covered in the red fluid of that human male.

I recessed the situation, because I couldn’t really keep up with what was happening.

I can somehow tell that the human male was crazy ever since he shouted at me, but to think it would take his own life just like that…

Even though every one of us here are struggling to survive here…! What a waste…!

If you can take your own life so easily, then at least give it to another who wants to live…! My Ma and Pa weren't giving up til their ends, and so did all the monsters we killed!

Why… why can one decide to end their own life…!

… Yumemi was so shocked that she fainted again.

Yuuma took care of all the blood that fell on her and her coat with his own clothes.

And then, suddenly…

“Kon… please burn his body out.”

… huh!?

“We can’t let Yumemi know about this.”

“Wait, what are you saying!?”

Disposing of the body… so he’s trying to cover everything from Yumemi!?

“I know! This is just so wrong, but the fact of another human dying in front of her would get her bad…!”

“Yuuma…”

He almost had the same tone as that human male… He sounded like he himself is on the verge of getting crazy.

He is forcing himself to take the blame again, in order to protect Yumemi…

If he’s willing to go that far… I should respect his decision.

“I got it!”

And so, I burnt the human male body with my specialty magic consecutively, and vaporized all the bloodstain on the floor.

The human male’s body that was burnt to a crisp was scooped by Yuuma, and he threw it to the river.

I can tell that he isn’t having this easy…

He then looked up, and said to himself.

“Don’t tell me this is some kind of god’s joke… it’s not funny at all.”

“Sorry, but I’ll make use of the knife you left.”

Yuuma washed the weapon that the human male had, and it seems like he’s going to use it.

He washed himself, and all the blood from every piece of clothing so easily.

“I can level up and probably regain all my memories now, but I would be found out if I do that…”

Again, with memories… I still don’t understand what that word even means.

Unlike monsters, humans can choose when they want to level up.

But yeah, if the death of that human male gave Yuuma the EXP to level up even more, Yumemi would be suspicious of where did Yuuma exactly gain that EXP, considering he explained the higher one’s level the fewer EXP they will gain.

I looked around while thinking… if we can make any excuse for that…

Ah, the lizardman’s body! That’s it! We can use that as an excuse, since a dead body won’t tell its level!

“Yuuma!” I pointed at the Lizardman corpse we defeated.

The rest is just wishing Yumemi wouldn’t remember that she also got involved in defeating it.

Yuuma looked a little bit surprised, before he went into deep thinking…

“Ah, right. The two of us defeated the Lizardman, let’s use that as an excuse.”

Yeah, exactly! He knows what I wanted to say even if I wasn’t able to tell him directly!

“WHAT THE HELL! HOW DOES THAT COUNT AS A CRIME!? IS IT THE ACT OF COVERING UP, HUH!?” He suddenly shouted.

“Huh, what?”

“Ah, sorry. The system is picking up a fight with me.”

“System…?”

“Haha, you probably don’t really get any UI besides the Party Member List you see on top left all the time, and the party invitation I sent when you back then.”

UI…? I don’t understand much, but I indeed can see something floating around the left of my vision ever since Yuuma had saved me.

Come to think of it, some weird thing also appeared when he picked me up back then. Maybe that is the reason I could see this thing floating around in my vision?

So those are what he meant by UI!

“So that’s what UI is!”

He looked kinda surprised when I gave him my reaction, and then he chuckled for a bit.

Glad to see he’s still able to smile.

“Alright, I guess I will level up. Can you take care of Yumemi when she wakes up later?”

“Leave it to me!” I puffed up my chest and put my right front paw to it, mimicking Yumemi, who sometimes does that when she’s proud of achieving something.

“Thanks, Kon.”

“No problem!”

And then, Yuuma decided to level up and put himself to sleep.

I dragged his body near Yumemi so it will be easier for me to keep my eyes on the two!
