Chapter 43:

I Will Survive...

Surviving in Another World, Aided with Glimpses of the Future...

"Everything... of ours is packed and Nullawhy stands ready too..."

Lygawa escorted Mai out, as she tugged lightly at the silky white dress Mai now wore, directing her toward the 'dragon launch pad'.

"What about the others, I still think we should at least have said a short farewell..."

Mai figured they should say a quick goodbye; it was the courteous thing to do before they went.

"Zalina is not one to wake unexpectedly... trust me yes, and the Princess... also sleeps at such ease too...."

She really does appear to be super eager to leave...

"Everyone else is busy at work too, yes, so we cannot disturb them..."

"Alright then..."

It was not often that she was the one being pestered to get a move along nowadays.

Lygawa remained rather serious, till they reached the take-off ledge, where Nullawhy greeted them both with a smile.

"Have you recovered well enough Mai?"

Nullawhy asked with a touch of concern, as she handed over the platted rope to the other dragon.

"I'm all good, thanks."

Her darker lipped smile returned.

"So glad you are feeling better."

Mai then went to give both some space to return to their real selves, and while Nullawhy did so without incident, the silver haired one rushed back closer to Mai.

Lygawa went right up to her, before she quickly turned and backed up, beginning to glow as she slipped under Mai's legs. Mai found herself lifted up, already on her smooth scaled back, with her sleek horned head looking back with a sharp toothed grin.

{I wanted to see if that worked, yes!}

The giant silver winged lizard chuckled, while Mai needed to crawl forward, just a little, to get to her 'normal position'.

Mai shook her head as she smiled at the odd dragon.

"Alright, let's go home then!"

After arriving at their bigger home, the three found an annoyed house-sitter, who grumbled about their absence, and her need to feed herself, all the while remaining hostile toward Mai, in Ryoniya's now expected manner.

So after Mai was pleasantly surprised that Lygawa helped her clean up the mess her smaller sister had made, while Nullawhy had gone to the tavern and then returned with four large plates - giving Mai a 'rest' from having to prepare something for them all.

Mai had awoken the following morning in her own bed again, having quite a peaceful sleep, so decided to go to her now neatened kitchen and do something constructive, since none of the others had arisen yet.

Finally...

Mai was back to baking, having added one more new ingredient to tinker with, but wasn't settled on the best way to manage it yet, so she'd made a few slightly different batches of her latest cookies, in an attempt to find out which lot worked out the best.

Some movement caught her eyes, as Ryoniya arrived, slinking down the stairs, she came toward Mai at first, with a less angry expression that usual, but she still had one.

Mai assumed she'd probably get another ear full from the little brooding one, but Ryoniya quietly dragged her long tail over to the table and sat down without a harsh look or word.

The other silver dragon-girl arrived next, after yawning and looking at what was going on - she soon stamped over to Mai in the kitchen.

"What are you doing Mai!"

She didn't give her time to reply, grabbing her shoulders and pushing her to the dining table.

"The doctor lady said; 'you are to rest up, take some time to recover and not over do anything'... but here you are making sweets, for who knows how long!"

Baking cookies is hardly overdoing anything...

"I haven't been doing it too long... and I'm having fun making these..."

Lygawa looked about the table and bench-top at all the mess Mai had already made, as she gently sat her down, before taking the nearest seat to look closely into her eyes.

"You are to relax -"

"This is relaxing, and I'm almost done anyway..."

Lygawa gave her a frustrated and lightly angered glare.

Did the sisters have a personality swap or something...?

"I promise I'll take things easy, okay?"

Her words soothed her, but she had more to say.

"Mai, do we... do us Dragons cause too much trouble for you?"

She suddenly asked, now blinking her bright eyes at her with trepidation.

Where did this come form...?

"I know we've made your life more... difficult.... and dangerous."

The silvery one fidgeted, but kept her sights on Mai.

"No, I wouldn't say that..."

Mai briefly reflected upon narrowly avoiding being squashed, burned, crushed, eaten, imprisoned, executed and blown-up in her time in this newer world.

"I like being here, with you all..."

All the positives far outweighed the occasional near disasters.

"My life is much better with you... and the others in it."

That greatly improved the silver dragon's mood, and seemed to also satisfy the other quietly dwelling in the room too.

"I'm glad to hear that, yes."

Lygawa shuffled again, now having an appreciative look.

"I am so glad we met too, yes, very much!"

Mai glanced at their little clock on the wall, and got back to her feet, but that slightly alarmed her over-protective close friend, so she reassured her.

"I'm fine... honestly."

She got to the oven and retrieved the small metal tray holding the first batch, before tipping them to a wide plate and returning to the table with satisfaction.

It did take quite the effort to get my hands on this... and now I hope I did it justice...

Lygawa sniffed over the freshly baked items that arrived, which had little dollops of dark brown amongst the light gold circles.

"Alright, let's try these..."

Mai took one off the plate as she sat again and softly had a bite.

That unmistakable flavour and texture, sweet with a slight bite, milky yet crisp - a perfect melt to offset the crunchy biscuit...

Lygawa put a whole one in her mouth, gave it a couple of seconds, then swished her tail from the seat and drooled for another.

"By the sky-spirits! What is that!"

Lygawa savoured the next as long as she could, talking again while most of it still sat in her sharp toothed mouth, while Ryoniya curiously reached over to get her own.

"That, my girl - is chocolate!"

Mai didn't need her often annoying 'visions' to see her latest creation would be a hit, especially since Ryoniya face held a ever so slight smile on it too.

"Want another?"

Mai happily offered to both.

"Yes, yes, yes! So... good, yes!"
