Chapter 29:
Can the Villain Become a Hero in Another World?
"Max! Come on Max, wake up!"
Maxwell fell out of bed and hit his head on the floor.
“Ow!”
Where was he?
He looked around the room; there were posters of his favorite video games, a bookshelf filled with his favorite light novels and a desk covered with blueprints and designs for inventions he'd yet to build.
This room felt familiar. It was as if he'd been here before.
He was just getting up when a young girl stormed into the room.
"Come on Max, you said you'd walk me to school today and I'm already late!"
What was this?
"Yeah, I'll be right there. Just let me get dressed."
What was he saying?
Suddenly he was outside walking with the girl.
"Are you feeling alright? Did you stay up reading last night?"
"I'm fine."
I remember now.
"What were you thinking for dinner tonight? You know mom's just going to keep asking till we give her an idea."
Turn back.
"I don't know, maybe..."
An explosion goes off.
Too late.
"Maximus? Are you alright?"
Maxwell awoke to find himself lying right outside Freya's hut. His sleepless nights must have finally caught up with him.
He'd just finished making more serum when he'd decided to go check on Rei.
"I'm alright, how's Rei doing?"
"She's doing fine, all her wounds have healed, she just needs to wake up."
"Is there anything else we could do? Anything at all?"
"I'm afraid not Maximus, her fate is in the hands of the gods now."
The gods? He nearly laughed. The only god he'd met had summoned him to this world to help her destroy it.
"Are you sure you're Alright Maximus? You were talking in your sleep."
"It's nothing, I'm just worried about Rei is all."
Whatever that dream was, it had been in the past.
He needed to stay focused; everything was going according to plan. The serum was a success, and he'd been practically gifted the key to dealing with Kalilo.
"Perhaps, I can help you. Whenever I get worried, I talk to my brother. He usually doesn’t have anything helpful to say, but what matters is he listens.”
“How has Edwin been doing? He was still unconscious when we last met.”
“Oh, he’s doing much better, though he was supposed to stop by yesterday but he never did.”
There was a hint of worry in the way she spoke.
“I’m sure, he’s fine.”
“He seemed like he could handle himself, he got you for a sister after all.”
He didn’t have time to worry about whether or not Edwin was in trouble.
The sun had already risen and he’d need to make more serum if he wanted every goblin ready tomorrow night.
The stage was nearly set, he just needed to fill out his cast. Then the show would finally begin.
