Carried to the Finish Line

“Guys we don’t need to do this. Momo, please put me down.”

“They are chanting your name Tai! You have become somewhat of a celebrity. The town wants to see you.”

I can hear the crowd of people outside the door of the Guild Hall.

“I’ve even heard some people calling you a new hero Goggles!” Brutus snorts. “Bwhahawha!”

Clack.

Silence has the most self serving grin across their face.

“Hey guys I know that you got permission but Janice said I need–”

“You worry too much, demon of speed called Tai.”

“Jim, you don’t have to use that silly title.”

The minotaur snorts gleefully.

“Look, the town wants to celebrate what you did.”

Momo has the biggest smile, it's honestly kind of cute.

“I get that but this is a little embarrassing.”

“Nonsense Goggles! Being carried by a female warrior should be seen with pride!”

No sense in arguing anymore. Momo is stuck cradling me in her arms. At least it is comforting.

My injuries still have yet to fully recover so moving on my own is still not something I should be doing right now.

Jim and Brutus open the large door. There is a huge crowd of people. Everyone is shouting.

“The Speed Demon of Freehearken!”

Well I am glad they are happy and safe. Next time I pray I should thank the Goddess Thia properly.

The Guildmaster walks out waving his hand and the crowd simmers down.

“For Tai’s valiant effort in saving the town we all love so dearly. The Guild honors him with a double promotion!”

The crowd erupts into excitement.

Wait…

Doesn't that mean I lose my free meal ticket and housing! That seems like a punishment not a reward. My stomach sinks.

Momo lowers her head and whispers over the crowd.

“I see that look on your face. Don’t worry about it Tai. Now you can officially join our party! Our house is pretty nice although I'm not the greatest cook…”

Well I guess it's not all bad. I lock eyes with Momo’s large cyclops eye. This close I can see a myriad of colors that really are beautiful.

She blushes.

“Is there…something on my face, Tai?”

I smile. I have no intention of ending this speed run early.

I will live it out to completion.
