Chapter 17:
Hero Duality
The distractions worked as Silvia’s team divided into clones and real, going separate ways into the forest. The enemy was forced to go separate ways, four in one direction and four in another direction as four remained with Yuka. Yuka's speed slowly went down against her will. But she wasn’t the only one; some of her enemies were also affected. Ryota, however, bulldozed toward her. Time to switch to defense. She duplicated, trying to deceive him but instead his body started to grow in flames and he just burned all the clones. Yuka’s big shield protected her but she fell on her knees, vomiting from the pain. I can’t go on. Her body trembled, but she forced herself to stand as she used the shield to block another attack..
“Look at the time! Don’t you think it’s better to join my team?” Yuka wiped the trace of vomit as she confidently asked. “There is only a few minutes left, you won’t be able to kill everyone in time so why not join my team?”
Ryota held on to a fighting stance, pulling out the sword from his stomach and burning his skin. “No!”
“Tik, tok, time is running out. If you don't join my team, you won't get another chance,” Yuka loudly proclaimed, hoping others were listening. As she used the shield to defend from his attacks.
It seemed to work because others, worried, started to look at the clock before going back to Yuka. “Doesn't it look like the red team is winning? I don't think we will kill them all in time?” one asked.
“Shut up, you’re clearly worried because you can't keep it up.” Ryota shut her down but Yuka's confident stance said otherwise. She was counting on their anxiety. The whispers ensued as seeds of doubts were planted. Yuka did her best to appear unfazed even though it was taking her all to stand.
Ryota was determined to win. He was using close combat and Yuka reminded herself there are just a few minutes left, she needed to keep her energy. She waited for him to approach her, knowing he was frustrated by her shield and watched as he swung a fist. She crouched down, shield in hand as she dashed right forward, into his knees. Some of his fire burned her back but she knocked him to the ground. She quickly pulled herself to standing. She wished to run, but she didn't have any more energy to spare, so she gambled. “Tik, tok, tik, tok time running. Who wants to be on my team?”
They looked at the time: 22 minutes. They were not getting reports of the other team catching the other red team players.
“With my barrier, they can survive longer…” One of them exclaimed. “I want to be on your team!”
Seeing their team member run to get converted, the other two, too, got worried that they will die and wanted to switch teams. “M-me too!”
Yuka was relieved her deception worked. It's better to have allies right now. Ryota gritted his teeth as he sent fire towards his allies, burning them alive. Yuka stared as the three that were supposed to be in her team screamed, falling to the ground. “You psycho! Why did you do that?”
Ryota glared at her. “I was told I have the superior power, how come I'm losing to you!”
Yuka stared at him dumbfounded. “Your ego is worth more than your life?.”
She was hoping they would be on her team so she could actually relax, but now… she sprinted away. She can't fight anymore; she can barely even run, but she was forcing that last-minute adrenaline to save her.
“Ya! Where are you going!” Ryota chased after her. He used fire as a fuel to increase his speed towards her.

Silvia screamed, dropping Hayato down as she collapsed on the ground. She muttered. “They killed the clones.”
Misuki could barely keep up; her huffs and puffs were getting louder. Children were considered to have more energy, but the fight went on for too long. Hayato looked at the two exhausted team members. He rose himself up and carried Silva and Misuki on the other hand, flying them both. They were heavy but his will power was stronger.
“Over there!”
The enemy was on a wagon, following them. A long whip was in the woman's hand as she whipped the horse to go faster. “Youngwoo, you are too slow! Faster!”
She whipped him again and he galloped faster. The man next to her gave her some debris. “Turn this rock into a gatling gun. “
The rock turned into a rapid-firing, multiple-barrel firearm. She used it to shoot Hayato.
Go down. Hayato sank down. Up. Then up. He dodged every single bullet.
“Her ability is like one of Yuka's copies?” Silvia muttered.
“No, the ability Yuka took was probably a weapon-base from what I've seen so far. Her ability is more of a creation,” Hayato noted.
Right. Hayato didn't dodge in time before it hit him; he crashed into the ground with Silvia and Misuki. Silvia muttered, “I need to protect everyone. I need to.”
Youngwoo immediately stopped, scared to approach.
“Quickly, give me a new rock!” The older woman asked. The man turned his body into a rock and used his hand to break it before giving it to her. She turned the rock into bullets, putting them in her weapon. She got ready to set her machine.
Silvia’s clone came to life behind her, muttering. “I need… protect everyone.”
A huge rock was in her hand as she smashed it on her head. The single hit knocked her out. Hayato doesn’t want to kill, but I’ll… kill on his behalf.” Silvia hit her head again and again; blood splattered. Silvia turned to the man. He seemed scared but aimed a punch, but Silvia dissolved the clone.
The remaining time: 00:09
Yuka hid behind a tree, vomiting again, clutching her stomach. She used the clones to distract him. It truly was a game of hide-and-seek with her duplicate, and it was rough. He burned her clones many times; she genuinely started to believe she was being burned alive.
She would use the shield to misdirect his attention, use trees, clone herself, then shield again, throw her sword in, and use trees for misdirection, then clone herself. She was at her limits. Blood dripped from her nose again. At least he was confused by another one of her clones.
She continued to follow Silvia's signal on where they were at. A sight of a wagon had her confused but she went to it. There was a man standing above the bodies of Silvia, Hayato, and Misuki. Misuki had bitten his arms, trying to save the team, but the man punched her. Yuka let out a sigh as she pulled out a gun and shot him. Good thing he didn't see her coming
“Oi.” She approached, looking at the bodies of Silvia and Hayato. “No, no, you aren't allowed to rest. Stand up and fight!
Misuki was the only one who stood up. Hayato levitated, while Silvia was done for the count.
Yuka turned to the horse. “Your chance to join my team is here.”
Youngwoo flinched, neighing.
“I know it's you.” Yuka wasn’t falling for his bait. Then she sighed. “Can you at least take Silvia?”
Youngwoo stared at her before trotting. Yuka pulled Silvia and carried her to the horse’s back.
“FOUND YOU!” Ryota's whole body was lighting up. “FIGHT ME!”
“Genesis, take Misuki,” Yuka instructed. He pulled her along with him, and Yuka climbed on the horse
“H-hey, didn’t you say it’s JUST her?” Youngwoo asked.
“Run if you want to stay alive.” Yuka simply went back on her words.
“Ehh?”
The flames became bigger and bigger, and Youngwoo started to gallop. “There are only eight minutes, you can make it Youngwoo!”
“No! I don’t think I can make it,” He cried out.
“You can.” Yuka encouraged him.
The fire in Ryota was helping him accelerate towards them. “I wish I copied that ability!”
“Seven!”
“Six!”
“Five!”
“Four!”
“I can’t run anymore.” Youngwoo’s tongue stuck out as he started to collapse. Yuka petted his back as the horse turned into a boy. “You’ve given me a chance to rest so I can push one more time. If I can’t last four more minutes after surviving this long, you should curse me out.”
An array of swords was on top of her head. She can see him breathing heavily, probably unable to believe that they got this far. All of that running is affecting him now. Yuka signaled for the swords to attack, her aim no longer accurate. She kept a shield in the front as protection for everyone. Hayato placed Misuk on the ground with Silvia, behind the shield, and he too, flew towards the fire man to support Yuka. He moved fast and slow to grab his attention away from them.
