Chapter 34:
DEAD//END: In the End, the world shall bow to Death!
“Soldier Bourne, are you in position?” said the Oracle on the communicator.
“Yes, sir,” I whispered.
From atop a rooftop, many meters away from my target, I watched Zack Zero.
“Keep your mana flow very low. He can see even the slightest increase. I want you to be like the living dead. Not even your heart beating.”
“Yes, sir.”
Changing the channel, the Oracle communicated with another:
“Okay, ninja. Start the game.”
Watching through the city's cameras, combined with the cameras on his ninjas, the Oracle orchestrated his checkmate on the chessboard that was Lumino City.
Zero and Rush walked together, sharing an umbrella.
"I don't know what to do. Getting so close only to fail... it seems like a bad joke to me."
“I know it's complicated, but...” Zero didn't seem to know what to say to cheer her up.
“It's okay, honey. You don't need to cheer me up. I just need a shower and a nap... and another bite of this candy.”
Munch. She bit the bear's head off the donut.
Before the girl sensed anyone's presence, Zero turned to the ninja, who was rushing over.
“I told you it wouldn't be pretty if you guys started following us again—” Zero was interrupted as the ninja began to speak.
"Ms. Rush... Mr. Zero. I'm here to warn you about something. A dangerous individual has been spotted on the streets of the city. According to our intelligence team's triangulation, he's coming for you!"
On the other end of the communicator, it was the Oracle who spoke each word that the ninja repeated.
“Right... Right...” The Oracle saw Zero's surprised expression on the camera.
On the panel, the Oracle's hands, protected by leather gloves, caressed a red button. He controlled a device that he had placed on my chest, next to my heart.
Sometimes, when my heart beat faster after the surgery, I felt that strange device.
“Soldier, get ready. 3, 2, 1... Go!”
I jumped off the roof at the same time the device was activated. A whirlwind of energy hit my whole body. Unstable particles of mana rose like a flame burning my body. My skin bubbled with sweat, reacting to the tremendous power I exuded.
At super speed, I covered the immense distance that separated me from my targets in seconds.
“Now, soldier. Kill the ninja. Show them you're not part of the cult.”
In the blink of an eye, I appeared beside them. In a circular motion, I used every muscle in my body in a punch. Squeezing all the potential inside me, I converted all the torture I had gone through into an act of aggression.
BOOOM!
My killer punch was stopped by Zero's hand. From the sound of it, I had completely broken his hand.
“What the hell, he defended himself...” The oracle changed his voice channel again. "Ninja, counterattack if you want. Hahah, it makes no difference...
...He is unstoppable."
Using his kunai, the ninja attacked my carotid artery, but just the passive contraction of my muscles bent that little knife.
With a kick, I sent the ninja flying through the air, slamming him into a wall.
“Bourne... What are you doing?” asked Zero.
“I... I don't know... RUN!”
“Remember the mission, soldier. But also... don't forget to have fun!”
Zero tried to punch me, but his movement was predictable. Blocking him, I pulled his arm, throwing him away. I saw his body hit the wall, crashing into a house.
“In the name of justice, I summon these chains of light: Aurea Chains!” said Rush.
Several chains emerged from the ground, clinging to my arm, but with the greatest of ease, I simply broke them, fragments of light scattering everywhere.
With a slap of the back of my hand, I pushed it out of my sight.
I knew I should hurt her.
My mission was to scare them.
Yes, my mission was to test Zack Zero's power.
But deep down, a voice projected itself into me.
“Zero... Zeeroo... ZERO!” shouting with all my might, I made a crater appear just by simply raising my power. “I'LL KILL YOU!”
My communicator broke, but there was nothing more to be heard.
“Hehehe... I lost control of the monster... HAHAHAHAH! CHAOS! THERE WILL BE SO MUCH CHAOS THAT ZACK ZERO WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO THINK!”
The pyramid glowed multicolored, a pleasure running through the Oracle's body.
“No matter the outcome... I won.”
