Chapter 50:

Mere Cannon Fodder

Warmth for a World OR Grandma Isekai?! Save a Doomed World with Kindness and Cookies!

Llilin grinned as Tristan's expression started to falter. Each time he swung, Lilin was blocking or parrying the attack without any signs of slowing. He had spent years building his endurance and training himself to never get tired, but having to keep up this level of intensity for so long was quickly tiring his arms. His grin turned to a frown, and his frown to a scowl. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his long hair feeling like a blanket and his armor starting to weigh him down.

"H-How?! How are you this strong?!" he demanded, swinging again and again with the overbuilt claymore in his hands.

"You have never faced a demon who was truly trying," Lilin replied, "Only people holding back so they wouldn't get in trouble for killing you."

"Bullshit! The King made me a demon himself, I should be just as strong as you- NO! Far stronger, I've trained me entire LIFE to be better than you people!"

"You've been training like a human. I've been training like a demon."

Lilin kicked Tristan in the chest, denting his armor as he staggered back. She lunged forward, flapping her wings to add momentum as she delivered a palm strike right into the dent, and the armor was suddenly rent in twain. Tristan didn't hesitate though, throwing the spent metal to the sides as he gripped his sword. With white knuckles, he charged forward again. His speed was marginally faster, but it wasn't enough to trouble Lilin. She caught his wrist, pushing his arms up as she swept his legs out. Tristan cried out pathetically, his sword clattering from his hands.

"You... You beast! You monster, you wench!" Tristan spat hollow insults with as much vitriol as he could muster, none of them landing. "You're not better than me! You're just a miserable creature! You have no pride, no-"

Lilin grabbed the failure of a demon by the throat, her claws poking into his skin as she lifted him from the ground with one arm. She kept lifting, showing no signs of struggle even as his legs left the ground. He struggled, kicking his legs in a futile struggle as he grabbed her wrist with both hands. Lilin was amazed, she didn't think that people were actually this stupid when they were being choked. He didn't kick her or punch her face or anything, he just squirmed like a bug while holding her hand like a baby.

"You're barely worth killing, but I don't think my 'companion' would be happy if I just killed you. Last chance, and I truly mean it this time."
Lilin pulled Tristan closer, her eyes burning with rage as she glared directly into his eyes.
"Tell me you want to live. Ask me to spare you, and I just might."

Tristan glared right back, his eyes starting to lose their life. "Go... Die-"

Lilin squeezed, crushing Tristan's throat before tossing him to the side. Then, she moved to the throne. She could feel the immense Mana emanating from it, gasping at the sheer magnitude of it. This fancy chair had more Mana than she had ever felt at once- though that made sense. It was basically an entire world's worth of Mana, all converted to whatever type this was. She took just a tiny pinch, gasping at the intensity of even that tiny amount. It was overwhelming, but she had to contain it. She slowly pushed it into her Core, ready to remove it if she reacted poorly... But she didn't. It processed almost immediately, and it was ready for her to use in an instant. She smiled nervously as she took more of the Mana, struggling to keep the flow moderate. She passed it through her Core, and the same result came of it.

Alright, time to fucking send it. Lilin started to absorb the Mana freely, feeling every part of her body rapidly intaking immense amount of Mana. She opened her Core and channeled all of it through, forcing air in and out of her lungs again and again as her body's instincts were fried by the intake of mana. She had to keep herself standing, keep herself breathing, and keep her Core from dumping all of its Mana as she left it wide open. It was like an ocean was being shoved into her when she was used to jumping in puddles, her body barely holding it together as she took it all. She couldn't even stop the flow at this point, the Mana overpowering her control as she kept going. Her body burned, her soul igniting. She started to scream, shaking as her veins showed all over her body. Her heart slammed against her ribs, drumming against them again and again as her thoughts dissolved in the current of Mana.

Lilin was going to die, but she couldn't do anything. She couldn't fight back, the Mana was overpowering her. She couldn't run away, her body was completely shutting down and her wings couldn't flap. She couldn't even make it end on her own terms, the Mana wasn't allowing anything out of her Core. Her heart was going to explode. Her body was going to burn to a crisp. Everything was going dark....

Until it finished.
Lilin didn't waste a moment, closing her Core before she could lose any of her most important Mana. She gasped for breath, feeling both like she couldn't stand and like her body weighed nothing. She lurched forward, about to fall to her knees, but her body caught itself. Her muscles were tired, but somehow they were working with no energy input. Mana itself was moving her body. Most people would struggle with this, but Lilin wasn't most people. She grinned as she turned herself around, giving her arms a shake and her wings a flap. It took her mere seconds to get used to this, puppeteering her own body as she looked at the men trying hopelessly to do anything to Six.

"Damn, Six, you're more sadistic than I remember," she said as she practically teleported into the battle. The particular man she ended up in front of screamed as he fell back. She looked down at him with a wicked grin. "I offer you the same mercy. Any of you who will surrender and ask for their lives will keep it."

The men immediately backed away, dropping their weapons as they ran as far as they could from the overwhelming power of the two demon women. Lilin nodded, looking to Six with a smile.

"Thank you for protecting Annie. Now, we just need to wait for the King's return."

"You won't need to wait for long, Lilim."
