Chapter 7:
My Crush Lives On Cloud No. 9
“So your date isn't going so well I take it?” was the first thing the man said to Michio.
“You might say so. I was thinking it was, but then she flipped and ran away. Not too surprising though, since she doesn't like me anyway.” Michio didn't know why he was admitting all this, but he thought that it probably didn't matter anyway.
“Oh, why did you two go here if you don't like each other?” The man asked surprised.
“We are forced to live together. They say we are soulmates even. But we knew each other from when we were alive and things weren't great between us and that hasn't really changed sadly.”
Now the man seemed to think for a while. Michio looked at his face for the first time and he had the same features Gabriel had, so Michio assumed that he was talking to another angel. But other than the angels he had seen before, he wasn't wearing the normal white uniform with colored accents, but a black business suite that made him look like an expensive lawyer or businessman. It looked sharp on him, Michio had to admit. He also wore shiny leather shoes, unlike the sneaker like shoes everyone else was wearing. Michio noticed that despite him noticing the strange with track suits right away, he never paid any attention to the shoes before, despite taking them off and putting them on a lot of times. Strange how the mind can ignore some things so easily. But that wasn't important right now anyway. Michio continued to explain how they got here.
“I made her sad yesterday by making her remember her family. She really wants to see them again and I wanted to cheer her up by coming here, but it didn't really work it seems.” Michio continued to explain the situation to a complete stranger, but he was just glad that he had someone he could talk to about it.
“Oh, I see. That must be tough. I've been dead for a very long time myself and at some point you don't really retain any memories from your previous life. Which can be painful in itself, if you had something you really wanted to remember.”
Michio didn't answer immediately and he started to wonder who this mysterious stranger actually was.
“Was there a reason you wanted to talk to me? Noone else her approached me like you did.”
“Nothing in particular. I was just interested in why you two didn't seem to get along so well.”
“And did my explanation suffice?” Michio was seriously wondering what this was all about now.
“To be honest, yes. You must know, if you are here for a long time you get to know all sort of secrets and things that most people here don't know and that the higher ups don't want you to know. But there isn't much they can do about it. If your soul belongs into heaven, that's it.”
“And what does that have to do with me? If anything?” Now the stranger started to laugh ever so slightly. In the same dignified way you would expect an angel to laugh.
“This knowledge I have. I like to apply it. And there might be a way to help you two.”
Michio was turning towards the man and looked straight at his face.
“What do you mean exactly?” Now the man was also looking at him and he started to look a lot more serious. Some might say even sinister. Michio had to swallow hard.
“You must realise that if there is heaven, there is hell as well. And down there, all sorts of things can fester that would be considered unnatural and dangerous. People with powers that go beyond the imagination spend their time down there. And some don't mind applying that power.”
“For a price, I assume?”
“For a price, yes. A high price of course.”
“And what can they do that might help me?”
“How about bringing you two back to live?” Michio couldn't help but stare at the mysterious man in utter surprise. “That is possible?” was all he could say.
“Oh yes, it would be easy for the people in heaven to do it as well, but of course they won't. But others will.”
“And how would I go about this? I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but...” Michio didn't know how to finish the sentence. Was he really thinking about doing something like this?
“I tell you something. You should talk to the person that can grant your wish directly.”
“What do you mean?” Michio didn't quite follow what the man was trying to tell him.
“Well, isn't it obvious. You need to go to hell and talk to the person that could grant your wish. Ask him what the price is and see if you are willing to pay it.”
Now Michio stared at the floor infront of him. This was absurd. But he couldn't help but be intrigued at the same time. Was that the solution he was looking for?
“And how do I go... to hell, exactly?” Michio inquired.
“I can guide you. It's not an easy journey, but I promise you to take you there and back safely.”
Michio was thinking about it. “I don't know you and I don't know whether I can trust you. But I want to help Aida. So I think I will do it.” The man was smiling in response.
“I like the sound of that. But you have to come both. That's very important.”
“I don't know whether she would be up for it.” Michio was very hesitant to involve Aida at this point in time.
“You don't have to decide right now. Take your time and try to talk to her about it. Maybe she is up for it. I give you my number and you can contact me when the two of you have made a decision.”
“That sounds alright.” Then they both exchanged numbers and the man took his leave. But it didn't seem like he was walking away, more like he was dissolving into thin air. At the same time Aida walked over to him, seemingly apologetic. She told him that she appreciated what he had tried to do for her and she took the plushie back from him, which made him smile. Then they decided to head home and Michio was left pondering whether he should actually tell Aida about what he had just heard.
