Chapter 18:

How The Demon Lord Saved The Villainess

How The Demon Lord Saves The Villainess

The entire room shook, but it wasn't my doing. It was a sign that our plan was working. Rieva had also dropped her disguise and quickly disarmed the first group of guards. She didn't really have to, as the demon lord has a power called "Domineering presence" which allows me to cause paralyzing fear in anyone but those with a strong will, that is to say, important characters in the game, and the Saintess herself.

Lily, still controlled by Valarie, stood by my side. I didn't know what was happening on her end, but she seemed pretty confident, as far as I was able to tell anyway. The whole court was in a state of panic, but nobody dared to make a move.

Seraphine on the other hand, had a lot of mixed emotions on her face. I could tell she was scared. She was confused. She was hurt. But most of all, she was relieved. Relieved I came to save her, despite this unexpected twist.

"Stand back, you fiend!" Alaric yelled from beside his father and drew his sword. His voice sounded distorted, like a lagging video. He charged towards me, but despite his speed, he was slow enough for me to easily block his attack.

Then a wave of holy energy surrounded him. With the demon lord revealed, the power of the Saint had activated. And Valarie used it to cast a pacifying spell on Alaric. He tried to fight against it, but he couldn't hold on to his sword.

In a heavily distorted manner, which sounded more like someone was mixing sounds from different voice lines together to create a new sentence, which might actually be what was happening, Lily began speaking: "I, tHE leGeNdaRy SAinTesS, SiDe wiTH tHe dEmON LoRd."

There was an audible crack when she finished speaking. Everyone in the room froze, except for Lily, I...and Seraphine.

I took on my human form again and approached Seraphine. She was looking at me in disbelief.

"Is it true? Are you really the demon lord?" she asked. Her voice was shaking, and I couldn't tell if it was from fear, relief or something else entirely.

"Yes, but also no. Like I told you, I am from another world. I was given the role of the demon lord when I arrived in this world."

She looked down, then took a deep breath and looked at me again. "What now?"

"I do not know if this will work, but I came to this world to save you. I have to believe that whatever greater power sent me here also made sure that it would be possible."

She looked around the room, at the people frozen in place. Cracks were forming in the walls and all around. They shimmered with an otherworldly glow.

"I don't-" she said, but couldn't even bring herself to finish her sentence.

"Since coming here I realized one thing, this world itself will never let you live. Even if we could prevent your execution, the life you would lead, the life you have been living, it would always be miserable. There's only one way for me to truly save you."

I reached out for her hand, and she accepted. I took her hand in mine and looked into her eyes. They were beautiful. I didn't know what would happen next, I had no guarantee this would work. But I had to believe it would, for this is why I came here: To save the villainess.

EPILOGUE

"Yeah, yeah, we'll come visit on the weekend, Val." I said, "Love you too, sis."

I put down the phone and went to the couch. I took a look at the TV.

"Seriously? Midnight Lily's Bloom?"

Seraphine was sitting on the couch, holding a controller in her hands.

"I like to reminisce! Makes me appreciate how much has changed." she said. "Can you believe I used to act like that?"

I laughed. "I heard they are releasing a DLC soon. Val got to test it, she wrote one hell of a bug report."

Seraphine giggled. I gave her a kiss on the cheek and sat down next to her, enjoying our time together.
