Chapter 48:

Jordan Vs Athan and Lefteris

Starlight: The Song of Home

“Zafeiri Katastrofi!”

“Ard Yahmi!”

Jordan ducked behind the earth wall he’d created to block Lefteris’s wind blast, then lifted his shield up above his head just in time to deflect Athan’s sword, which was slicing through the earth wall. The awkward angel from the deflect meant Athan’s sword got stuck in the wall for a moment, and Jordan blindly stabbed through his own wall to where he thought Athan was. As expected, he felt some resistance and heard a grunt of pain, letting him know his attack struck true, and he prepared to capitalize on it.

“Deigh-”

“Astrapi Rogmi!”

Jordan was forced to back off abruptly to avoid a bolt of lightning. Looking up, he saw Lefteris flying not too far away, so he simply decided to move his sword and change his target.

“Ruaig!” He finished, and sent a slash of ice at Lefteris, forcing him to drop back down to the ground to dodge. He then charged in to capitalize on this, only to quickly have to turn around.

“ATHAN GREAT BLADE SLASH!” Athan roared from where he now flew above the earth wall, and sent a massive magical slash at Jordan.

“Fylaxte Olous!” Jordan quickly chanted as he brought up his shield, magic flowing over it. As the flying slash approached, he angled his shield to deflect the blast at Lefteris, successfully redirecting it.

“Apodosi Dynami!” Lefteris chanted, creating a barrier in front of him that reflected the slash straight back at Jordan. With no time to do anything else, Jordan repositioned himself to block the attack once again, this time full on.

“Ugh!” Jordan grunted as the slash struck him dead on. Fortunately the barrier spell from earlier negated most of the slash, but the spell was shattered and the recoil from the attack caused him to stumble back. Athan did not hesitate to take advantage of this.

“Athan multi-slash!” Athan shouted as he flew at Jordan, rapidly swinging his sword and sending dozens of smaller slashes at Jordan. Jordan was thankfully able to block them all with his shield, but they kept him from regaining his footing as Athan charged him. The moment Athan reached him, Jordan tried to catch him by surprise by swinging his sword at him, but Athan easily ducked under the slash and circled around him to slash at his back.

“Athan warrior hammer!”

“AUUUUGH!”

Jordan screamed in pain as Athan’s blade slashed into his back with magic, the force of the attack sending him flying up into the air.

“Zafeiri Katastrofi!”

Then from above, Lefteris shot Jordan straight back down to the ground with a massive wind blast, slamming Jordan into a crater.

“GAH!”

Jordan didn’t have any time to rest as Athan then came in with his sword once more, slashing down at him to try and decapitate him, but Jordan just barely managed to roll out of the way. Athan followed him, aggressively slashing at his retreating form, but Jordan was just barely able to stay out of reach.

“Ard Almasamir!” Jordan chanted, and spikes abruptly appeared from the ground directly under Athan. Athan was able to jump back in time to avoid getting completely skewered, but the spikes did manage to get a few cuts on him and knock off one of his shoulder pauldrons. This also gave Jordan the opportunity to get back to his feet and face Athan again. Lefteris also decided to float down and land next to Athan as they faced Jordan down side by side.

“I will admit, you are just as strong as your reputation would imply. Perhaps more so even. You truly are a worthy adversary.” Athan said with a smile.

“Yeah, well, credit where credit is due. You both are a lot stronger than I expected you to be. Sorry for underestimating you.” Jordan replied with a smile of his own.

“Apology accepted. Still, after this showing, I must once again ask you to join us.” Athan said, reaching out a hand towards Jordan. “I understand your alliances are not with Chamiloran, but that doesn’t matter. With your power and Mina, we can fix Chamiloran, then I swear we will use all the power at our disposal to help the kingdom where your alliances are. Just please, step aside and let us bring Mina back to where she belongs.”

Jordan paused, letting Athan and Lefteris stew for a moment, but his choice was clear to him right from the beginning.

“The kingdom I come from, where my loyalty lies, is not somewhere you can go.” Jordan said. “And even if you could, I wouldn’t want you to go there anyways. Perhaps someday our ‘kingdoms’ can come together, but with the way this kingdom is right now, I plan to do everything I can to prevent that.”

Athan frowned at this, but Jordan wasn’t done talking as he then raised his sword and pointed it right at Athan.

“As for Mina, I AM bringing her back to where she belongs. The place you took her from. And right now, you are my biggest obstacle stopping me from returning her there. So, either stand down and let me send her home, or prepare yourselves to be removed from the path.”

At this point Athan was glaring at Jordan, and once Jordan was done speaking he let out a frustrated sigh before drawing his own blade, and beside him Lefteris also prepared himself.

“I see. If that is how you feel, then all I can do now is meet and overcome your challenge, and then pray that I can make you see sense afterwards.” He said, and then charged Jordan once again.
