Chapter 4:

Himari learn her abilities and more about the world while also helping

I Found Myself in another World Living with The Demon Lord

Himari awoke to the sun shining through the window and bouncing off the chandelier creating rainbow. So she hadn’t dreamed up yesterday. All the events that happened yesterday flitted through her mind. She could feel Duncan’s cheerfulness through their connection, so she hadn’t dreamed that part either. She was curious what had him in a good mood. She wondered if it had anything to do with the fact she had told Duncan she’d try to help him and his people any way she could, at least until they could find a way to get her home. Though strangely enough the thought didn’t feel her with happiness like she thought it would. She brushed those thought away and followed her and Duncan’s connection. She found him in the kitchen whistling cheerfully while he stood over the stove cooking. He said without taking his eyes off the skillet “I hope you like salmon. It’s fresh. We caught a bunch this morning so the people in this town will have enough to eat for a few days.” Himari realized his joy came from knowing his people in this town had a few days’ worth of food. He was a caring lord. This was another reason she wanted to help him. Duncan’s voice penetrated her thoughts “My cooking isn’t as good as my chefs but it is edible. Everyone at the castle has the day off today. I told them to rest, hunt, fish, and gather food. I hope you don’t mind we will have to take care of ourselves today.” She said “The fish smells divine. I don’t mind taking care of myself I am used to it. We don’t have servants there. How can I help?” Duncan nodded “I forgot you told me that last night. Could you grab the plates from that shelf the foods ready.” He nodded his head towards a cabinet near him. Himari stepped to the cabinet and got the plates down. Duncan plated them up salmon, arrozito which was a grain that reminded Himari of rice. He also served wild brocalini which reminded Himari of broccoli. They also had coffee and a drink called punche that was drunken warm and contained fruit and spices similar to cinnamon and nutmeg and some type of sweetener. Once they had taken a few bites of the food Himari praised Duncan for his cooking. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Duncan blushed. He coughed and said changing the subject “My friend who is a powerful wizard is going to come over and see what your mana level is and what your skills are and what level you can reach in those skills. Also, if anyone knows a way to get you home it is him. He is supposed to be here sometime this afternoon.” Himari nodded and said “Will we have enough time for you to teach me more about this world and discuss some of my ideas? Also, I have some questions for your friend. Do you think he will mind?” Duncan grinned and said “We should be able to cover a few things. I have the map laid out in my study, like I promised last night. We will go over everything after we have eaten and cleaned up. My friend will love you asking questions. He will talk your ear off about magic and loves when people show an interest in it.” They ate in a mostly companionable silence occasionally laughing and joking. They continued there light banter as they cleaned up the kitchen. They headed into his study and stood over his desk where the map of the NFU was laid out. Himari asked questions about the plants and animal and the inhabitants of his world. Duncan enjoyed her curiosity for his world and enjoyed explaining everything to her. She asked him about marine life and plants. Himari pointed to Imponina, Duncan’s country, which was on the west coast and was one of the two countries of the NFU continent that touched the Tranquilla Aqua Ocean. She then ran her finger along the ocean that bordered Duncan’s land and asked “Is this ocean called the calm waters, because none of the larger animals like hydras and krakens live in it?” Duncan said “No it has all those creatures and more. It is called the calm waters because it doesn’t have hurricanes like Aqua Letales and it doesn’t freeze like Eisozean does. And here at Lagoona the waters are calm with no large sea creatures because of the Coral of Mermaid people.” As he was explaining he pointed out each places on the map. Himari asked if people fished in any of the oceans and if anyone hunted Kraken’s, or hydras. Duncan replied “In Lagoona they fish smaller fish and smaller crabs mussels, clams and other small sea creatures. They are also able to gather lots of fruits and vegetable that only grows in their water due to it not being as deep as the oceans. The coral blocks it off from the ocean a lot meaning the current isn’t as strong so the vegetables and fruit don’t get pulled out further.” He then pointed at Aqua Letales and said “There are all kinds of large sea creatures, just like in our waters. They do hunt them especially the people of Bestiamen, but due to the lethalness of the waters they mostly hunt close to the coastline and only occasionally hunt further out. It is even more dangerous for the humans of Vitriolio even with their magic.” He then pointed to Eisozen and said “They mostly do ice fishing since the water stays frozen a majority of the year. They do hunt bellenas when the water thaws in spring. Krakens and hydras don’t seem to like the frozen water and prefer deeper parts of the oceans so that is why they don’t hunt them.” Himari remembered Bellenas were whale like creatures. She thought a few moments and said “Are all parts of the Bellenas edible? In my world we have something similar called a whale and people eat their organs, meat, skin and fat so no part of the animal goes to waste. The bellenas are huge animals too and one could feed this entire town for a month, correct? They could me a feasible food source if we intact strict fishing rules so as to not over fish.” Himari could feel the warmth of Duncan’s awe and how impressed he was with her knowledge and her ideas. Duncan said “Just like your whale the entire bellena can be eaten. The only part inedible is the teeth and bones which are used to make the finest cookware because of its durability. Yes, one of the bellenas could easily feed this town for a month if not longer.” He looked at her even further impressed and said “You are saying we should kill one or two and spread the bellenas out so each village, city, and town gets some to help with our food shortage. You are truly brilliant. I didn’t even think of that. I am sure a few people know how to cook and eat it but how do we show everyone in the village how to use the bellena properly? We could teleport to each place in my village but that would be very time consuming and not feasible.” He looked up at her and said with a broad grin “I’ve got it. You know the broadcast stone?” Himari nodded her head yeas. She remembered that it was a stone used to communicate within ones nation and to other nations. It was like a television and similar to video calling because one could also have conversations through holograms with multiple people at the same time as long as the other person was near their broad casting stone. Each nation had one; Duncan continued “We can broadcast it to the entire nation at once with the broadcast stone.” They discussed this even further coming up with different ideas on how to use the broadcasting stone and other information they could spread to his people. They discussed hunting, gathering, and fishing laws that could help makes things more sustainable and long term options. Duncan was growing more and more impressed by Himari’s knowledge and ideas. She was brilliant. He was about to tell her that when she pointed to Hazarth and said “I think we should also try to do sales and do trades with Hazarth. Especially with what foods we can get from the ocean since they are inland they will not have access to get these things except through trade. We can set up viable laws to make this a long term option.” She pointed even further inland to Elmsguard and said “We can also sell to them and since they use pearls from clams to make magical apparatuses and such we can sell them pearls from the clams which will be larger than the ones they get from Achukman because the clams in Lagoona cannot grow very big. Achukman might even be interest in the pearls since ours will be larger and better suited to the apparatuses that require large amounts of mana to be stored in them. Achukman and Elmsguard are both places elves and fairies live and since both are known for their magical apparatuses they might also be interested in our Mithril too. Isn’t Imponina only one of the two countries that have a Mithril mines with the other being in Daisland Auseis? They also have a gold obsidian mine too which is rare?” she phrased the last part two as a question. Duncan couldn’t believe how quickly she had picked up the information about his world and how quickly she came up with solutions to his problems. Duncan found Himari extremely intelligent and told her so. She blushed deeply at his words. Duncan finally answered her questions “Yes there are only two Mithril mines on the continents with one being here in our country and the other in Daisland Auseis. They also mine gold obsidian which is extremely rare. There are three shades of obsidian. The colors are white which is the most common and easiest to find color. Black which is slightly rare and of course gold is the rarest. Each one of the colors can store different amounts of mana white holds the least and gold the most.” They continued discussing ideas and plans for the future of Imponini, taking notes and writing information down. They lost track of time as they tossed ideas around and discussed alternative options until the door flew open startling them both.
