Chapter 61:
Sanctum of Life
Chapter 13 Wrath of King Fungruus
I
On a nameless small island in the barren wilderness of Reauneia, Fungruus, the most powerful man in this world, was cleansing a band of criminals.
Floria, Yanni, and Stasha were staring at Fungruus, ready to fight while Captain Mar and Aisling were standing by and watching them fight, after all, they couldn’t help at all.
Fungruus shot a lightning bolt towards Aisling. Yanni held up his stellarite shield to protect her. The lightning bolt exploded on the surface of Yanni’s shield. The shield absorbed part of the energy that the lightning bolt contained, while the remaining energy hurtled Yanni into the sky.
While Fungruus was about to shoot another lightning bolt to end Aisling’s life and take away Cuore Celeste, Floria shot a stream of arrows towards him.
“You’re so bothering!!” complaint Fungruus. With his hand, he manipulated a gust of wind to blow Floria’s arrows away.
Stasha charged towards Fungruus and the latter shot a stream of lightning bolts towards her. Dexterously, Stasha dodged all the lightning bolts and jumped up, her daggers ready to slash Fungruus into pieces.
Irritated, Fungruus summoned a formidable surge of wind to protect himself. Stasha was light and was blown away by the strong wind, Floria wanted to help her but she was blown away too.
There was electricity running through the elementalical wind conjured by Fungruus. Floria and Stasha could feel gusts of feelings of paralysis running through their neuros.
The instant they were about to be blown off the island by Fungruus’ wind, Yanni tossed his stellarite shield towards Fungruus, which flew in the air and hit Fungruus precisely on the back of his head.
Moaning in agony, Fungruus fell to the ground from mid-air while the tornado that wrapped his feet and enabled him to fly disappeared. He stood up to his feet and stared at Yanni wrathfully.
“You will die!” he threatened.
However, Yanni wasn’t scared by him at all. Roaring angrily, he dashed towards Fungruus with his shield.
Obviously, Fungruus wasn’t very good at melee fight, He was much taller than Yanni after transformation but that wasn’t his advantage since his excessive height enabled Yanni to attack his lower body fairly easily.
After several moves, taking advantage of one bad move of Fungruus, Yanni hit his left knee heavily, forcing him to go down on his knee. Right now, the King of Reauneia was kneeling before a barbarian boy.
He gave off a deafening scream in wrath. Though the elementalical power could heal his wounded part within second, the injury of dignity was unhealable.
In pure rage, Fungruus released a destructive wave of energy which sent Yanni flying for metres. Stasha and Floria wanted to sneak up on Fungruus but he discovered their plan and knocked them down with a lightning chain.
Yanni staggered up to his feet, but Fungruus punched towards him, his fist fully charged by elementalical electricity. Yanni tried to block this energetic punch with his shield, but he failed: this punch hurtled him to the mid-air and the electricity paralyzed all his muscles.
They lost. Fungruus won. He floated towards Aisling.
Aisling closed her eyes, concentrating herself on the realm of magic. She could feel the power of magic hiding in everything around her, but she couldn’t use it. She just woke up from a long coma and now it was even difficult for her to walk and run, let alone cast magical spell.
The lightning bolt shot out from Fungruus’ finger. It was flying in the air in a faster speed than arrows. When it was about to touch Aisling and blasted her into pieces, Captain Mar rushed to the front of her and parried this lightning bolt for her. Within seconds, Captain Mar was blown to ashes and cremains.
“Stop the war … Save this world …” It was Captain Mar’s last words.
“Captain Mar!” Yanni ran up to that pile of ashes which used to be Captain Mar.
Stasha and Floria staggered to Yanni and Aisling’s side, their muscles still aching.
Fungruus summoned another chain lightning. All the four were hit by the chain lightning. Their muscles were trembling, and Aisling lost her grip of Cuore Celeste.
Slowly, the gemstone fell from Aisling’s hand to the ground.
This chain lightning also hit Cheius who was lying on the ground at the moment. The electricity impulse woke him up, just like the electrotherapy based on air elementium.
Fungruus stopped released more electricity and landed on the ground. He walked up to the gemstone and picked it up.
All the four were lying on the ground right now, their muscles paralyzed by Fungruus’ lightning. Now, Fungruus was going to end their lives once and for all.
“ꡰꡟꡃ ꡊ’ꡔꡞꡋ,”[Fungruus, my lord,] greeted Cheius respectfully.
“ꡇꡞ ꡊꡞ ꡔꡞꡏ’ꡜꡟ ꡮꡞ’ꡎꡗ ꡙ,” [Your mission failed,] blamed Fungruus.
“ꡊꡟꡗ’ꡎꡟ’ꡁꡞ, ꡊ’ꡔꡞꡋ,” [I’m sorry, my lord,] apologized Cheius, trembling in fear. Obviously, he was pretty afraid of Fungruus.
“ꡜꡠꡋ’ꡒꡗ, ꡰꡋ’ꡮꡞꡃ’ꡏꡞꡃ ꡗꡞꡋ’ꡁꡞꡃ ꡗꡞ’ꡂꡞꡃ ꡎꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ. ꡃꡡ ꡗꡠꡧ ꡔꡟ’ꡜꡡ ꡄꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡉꡠꡋ’ꡂꡠ ꡆꡞ ꡛꡞꡏ?” [Now, the Engine of Antilife is broken. How will I destroy Cuore Celeste?] demanded Fungruus.
“ꡃꡡ ꡎꡟ ꡆꡞ ꡊꡠꡧ … ꡗꡠ’ꡜꡦꡧ … ꡃꡡ’ꡏꡟꡋ ꡋꡝꡞꡃ ꡂꡠꡋ’ꡒꡧ ꡙꡞꡃ’ꡗꡞ’ꡂꡡ?” [I don’t know. Maybe … We can build another …] stammered Cheius.
“ꡇꡞ ꡂꡡ ꡜꡟꡋ’ꡊꡋ! ꡇꡞ ꡆꡞ’ꡊꡧ ꡂꡠꡋ’ꡒꡧ ꡋ ꡗꡞ ꡂꡡ ꡗꡞꡋ’ꡁꡞꡃ ꡗꡠꡧ ꡜꡧ ꡊꡧꡡ ꡮꡠꡧ ꡄꡠꡏ!” [You bastard! You know how much building an altar cost!] cursed Fungruus.
Suddenly, rain began to pour down from the sky. When the water touched the skin of Fungruus which was brimming with electricity, he shorted out since rainwater was conductive. He lost his elementalical power and transformed back to his human form. His head was aching due to the short.
The cold rainwater was pouring down on the skin of the four. Slowly and weakly, they got up to their feet. They all had power that came from Sylvanas, the titaness of forests, and thus they could recover pretty quickly.
“ꡮꡞ! ꡃꡡ ꡊꡧꡋ’ꡙꡟ ꡙ! ꡮꡟꡗ! ꡃꡡ ꡜꡠꡋ’ꡒꡗ ꡗꡠꡧ ꡙꡞ’ꡁꡗ ꡆꡠ’ꡙꡞ! ꡇꡞ ꡙꡞꡧ ꡒꡗ ꡆꡠ’ꡙꡞ ꡎꡞꡃ ꡗꡠꡏ’ꡜꡟ ꡃꡡ!” [Shit! I have short-circuited! Cheius! I have to leave here now! You stay here and cover me!] commanded Fungruus.
“ꡮꡞ, ꡎꡞ’ꡜꡨ,” [Yes, your majesty,] consented Cheius.
“ꡝꡟꡗ’ꡙ ꡛꡏ’ꡂꡟꡃ,” [For Trigon,] intoned Fungruus.
“ꡝꡟꡗ’ꡙ ꡛꡏ’ꡂꡟꡃ,” [For Trigon,] repeated Cheius.
Fungruus commenced to stagger towards the sailboat of Captain Mar and the four. He was extremely weak right now since he had shorted out. Taking advantage of his weakness, Floria wanted to shoot an arrow to stop him, but Cheius put himself in front of her and Fungruus.
“Over my dead body first!” growled Cheius.
II
Under the cover of Cheius, Fungruus drove the sailboat away from the island with Cuore Celeste held in hand.
After ten minutes, he arrived at the sunny area. After drying up himself, he recovered from the short, transformed into his genie form and soared into the air. As fast as a falcon, he ascended over the sea of clouds, where there would be no rainwater that could harm him.
He could fly at a great speed, and he arrived back to his palace at night. He went back to the hole that led to the mantle of earth and walked on the elementalical elevator.
Descending on the elementalical elevator, he went to earth’s mantle and walked up to that black pond, which was in fact the end of one of the tentacles of Trigon.
“ꡇꡞ ꡜꡟꡗ’ꡙꡗ ꡙ,” [You’re back,] greeted Trigon.
“ꡃꡡ ꡗꡞ ꡊꡧꡡ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡉꡠꡋ’ꡂꡠ’ꡆꡞ’ꡛꡞꡏ. ꡃꡡ ꡜꡠꡋ’ꡒꡗ ꡒꡧꡡ ꡮꡞꡏ?” [I’ve retaken Cuore Celeste. What shall I do right now?] asked Fungruus.
“ꡎꡧ’ꡂꡧꡋ ꡉ, ꡆꡠꡧ’ꡊꡧ ꡋꡝꡞꡃ ꡄꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡉ ꡊꡞ ꡊꡟꡃ’ꡛꡞ,” [Keep it, and find anything that can destroy it,] answered Trigon.
“ꡃꡡ ꡁꡡ’ꡗꡞ ꡒꡗ ꡋꡡꡲ’ꡏ’ꡇꡞ’ꡗ ꡊꡞ ꡗꡠꡋ’ꡂꡠꡃ ꡜꡡ ꡄꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡉ ꡏ? ꡂꡦꡟ ꡮꡧꡡ ꡋꡠ’ꡁꡲꡟꡛ ꡙꡞ’ꡰꡃ’ꡉꡞ ꡒꡞꡧ ꡮꡞ ꡒꡗ ꡋ’ꡙꡞ ꡎꡟꡗ ꡜꡟꡗ’ꡂꡟꡃ’ꡅꡃ ꡊꡞ ꡏꡡꡲ’ꡉꡞꡛ ꡊ’ꡮꡞ ꡆꡟ’ꡒꡧ ꡊꡞ,” [Can I destroy it in the lava lake of Normania? It’s said that the Cube of Necrus forged by Master Mortis of the Grey Factory was destroyed there,] pursued Fungruus.
“ꡔꡠ ꡄꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡋꡟ ꡙꡠꡧ ꡆꡠ ꡂꡡ ꡎꡧ’ꡮꡞ. ꡔꡟ ꡂꡧꡡ ꡇꡞ ꡂꡠꡃ ꡁꡞ ꡊꡞꡧ ꡔꡟ ꡗꡠꡋ’ꡂꡠꡃ, ꡉ ꡆꡞ ꡜꡟꡗ ꡰꡟ ꡒꡗ ꡗꡠꡋ’ꡂꡠꡃ ꡊꡞ ꡋꡠꡧ’ꡏꡠꡋ ꡮꡃ. ꡓꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡉ ꡊꡞ ꡝꡟꡗ’ꡗꡞ ꡰꡃ’ꡰ ꡮꡞ ꡗꡟꡃ ꡰꡋ’ꡮꡞꡃ’ꡏꡞꡃ ꡗꡞꡋ’ꡁꡞꡃ ꡰꡟ’ꡮꡞ ꡉ,” [Heat cannot destroy this gemstone. If you throw it into that lava lake, it will only float on the surface of the lava. The only way to destroy it is corrupting it with the Engine of Antilife,] replied Trigon.
“ꡊꡋ’ꡮꡞ ꡰꡋ’ꡮꡞꡃ’ꡏꡞꡃ ꡗꡞꡋ’ꡁꡞꡃ ꡗꡞ’ꡂꡞꡃ ꡎꡟꡗ ꡄꡟꡗ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡙ!” [But the Engine of Antilife had been destroyed,] Fungruus pointed out.
“ꡋꡠ ꡊꡋ’ꡛꡞꡏ, ꡇꡞ ꡁꡡ’ꡗꡞ ꡂꡠꡋ’ꡒꡧ ꡙꡞꡃ ꡗꡞ ꡂꡡ. ꡇꡞ ꡊꡞ ꡮꡞꡧ’ꡗꡠꡧ ꡔꡞꡏ’ꡝꡟ ꡮꡞ ꡮ ꡙ ꡋ ꡂꡡ ꡒꡞꡃ’ꡙꡞꡃ. ꡉ ꡮꡞ ꡝꡟꡗ’ꡗꡞ ꡃꡞꡧ ꡋꡝꡞꡃ’ꡙꡞ ꡒꡞꡋ’ꡔꡟ ꡮꡞꡃ’ꡏꡞꡃ’ꡮꡞꡃ’ꡊꡠꡋ ꡇꡞꡃ ꡆꡠꡧ’ꡜꡧꡋ ꡰꡟ’ꡛꡟ ꡆꡞ ꡞꡦꡟ ꡆꡠ ꡝꡟꡗ’ꡗꡞ ꡋꡝꡞꡃ ꡮ ꡛꡝꡞ ꡃꡡ ꡊꡞ ꡊꡟꡃ’ꡛꡞ ꡊꡞ ꡔꡞꡋ,” [Don’t worry, you can build another one. Your only priority right now is killing that elf. She is the only one that can enter the Sanctum of Life and summon the Rain of Regrowth, the only thing that can possibly destroy me,] commanded Trigon.
“ꡃꡡ ꡁꡧꡗ ꡅꡞꡃ’ꡂꡟꡃ ꡙ, ꡊꡋ’ꡮꡞ ꡝꡦꡟ ꡮꡟꡗ ꡔꡃ ꡃꡡ ꡊꡧꡋ’ꡙꡟ ꡙ!” [I nearly succeeded, but the rain made me short out!] explained Fungruus frustratedly.
“ꡂꡞ’ꡔꡋ ꡔꡟ’ꡄꡝꡞ, ꡒꡗ ꡇꡞ ꡊꡞ ꡂꡟꡃ’ꡊꡠꡋ ꡙꡞ ꡊꡝꡞꡃ ꡉ’ꡏꡟꡋ, ꡉ’ꡏꡟꡋ ꡜꡟꡗ ꡙꡗ ꡆꡠꡧ ꡇꡞ, ꡗꡞꡋ’ꡝꡟꡗ ꡉꡠꡋ’ꡂꡠ ꡆꡞ ꡛꡞꡏ ꡒꡗ ꡇꡞ ꡮꡠꡧ ꡮꡝꡃ. ꡎꡧ’ꡅꡞ ꡋꡗ’ꡛꡞꡏ, ꡃꡡ ꡆꡟꡃ’ꡅꡞꡃ ꡊꡞ ꡍꡟ’ꡔꡞꡋ. ꡰꡟꡃ’ꡗꡞꡋ ꡊꡞ ꡙꡞ’ꡙꡠꡃ ꡒꡗ ꡗꡞ’ꡉꡠꡋ’ꡉꡠꡋ ꡂꡠꡏ’ꡔꡧꡡ. ꡃꡡ ꡄꡗ ꡃꡡ ꡋꡝꡞꡃ ꡒꡗ ꡊ’ꡗꡧꡠ ꡗꡞ ꡂꡡ ꡗꡧꡠ ꡋꡝꡞꡗ ꡉꡟ’ꡍꡧꡡ ꡰꡟꡃ’ꡗꡞꡋ ꡎꡞꡃ ꡰꡋ’ꡜꡟꡗ ꡊꡞ’ ꡎꡠꡧ,” [Since that, wait for them in your palace, they will come to find you because Cuore Celeste is in your hand. Be patient, my loyal servant. The power of the seal is weakening day by day. I guess that I can break the seal and return to the surface of the world after approximately one month,] proposed Trigon.
“ꡗꡞ ꡂꡡ ꡗꡧꡠ ꡊꡟꡗ ꡇꡞ ꡙꡗ ꡮꡧꡡ ꡗꡞ ꡊꡞꡃ ꡮꡞ ꡜꡝꡞꡋ ꡊꡧꡋ ꡊꡞ ꡗꡞ ꡊꡧꡋ ꡮꡞ’ꡂꡠꡋ, ꡃꡡ ꡊꡞ ꡆꡟ’ꡔꡞꡋ,” [One month must be a short time for you, my master,] guessed Fungruus.
“ꡊꡃ ꡔꡋ. ꡎꡞ’ꡆꡞꡃ ꡃꡡ ꡮꡞꡏ’ꡆꡞ ꡒꡗ ꡆꡠ’ꡂꡡ ꡛꡞꡃ’ꡁꡞꡧ ꡅꡞꡃ’ꡜꡞꡃ ꡆꡞ’ꡄꡠꡋ ꡒꡞꡧ ꡗꡞ’ꡂꡞꡃ ꡄꡟꡋ’ꡒꡗ ꡙ,” [For sure. After all, I have been here even before the formation of this planet,] revealed Trigon.
III
After Fungruus left the scene, Cheius jumped into the water of the lake, in the pouring rain, no one could stop him. It was time for slaughtering.
Within several seconds, the water of almost half of the lake had been dyed dark purple by Cheius’ power. He was assimilating the water of this lake, turning it into some sort of slimy organic protein-like material.
Fishes used to swim carefreely in the lake, but they were devoured and absorbed by Cheius.
The water of the lake, Cheius, and those fishes were gradually merging into one dollop of organic chaos. After absorbing the fishes and other creatures in the water, eyeballs, mouths and other organs began to grow out on the surface of that organic chaos, which was becoming Cheius’ body.
Now, Cheius had transformed into his ultimate form, a chaos of miscellaneous organic material. Slowly, Cheius began to move towards the four.
“Run!” yelled Floria.
She dived into the water, and Stasha followed. Yanni carried Aisling on his back and followed them too. Aisling was too weak to swim right now.
The obscene power of Cheius had corrupted one half of the lake, and the other half was still uncontaminated, into the water of which they jumped and began to swim away, escaping from this horrible place .
Pouring down from the sky, the raindrops plummeted onto the lake, producing thousands of ripples on the surface of the water.
The four were swimming at their fastest speed, and they didn’t dare to look back. It was a morning, but because of the grey rainclouds, the sky was as dark as a gloomy night, so that they couldn’t see what was in front of them clearly.
“The lakeshore!” shouted Yanni.
Through the mist, they saw the lakeshore. Cheius might be powerful and invincible in water area, but they might defeat him on the land. After about ten seconds, they arrived ashore.
Stasha and Yanni looked back.
Cheius was still chasing them.
He had turned into a titanic mass of eyeballs, tentacles, mouths and other parts of twisted organs. This blasphemous animated mountain of flesh was moving towards the lakeshore, and the whole lake was trembling.
“Don’t look at him, keep running!” shouted Floria.
They kept running forwards.
“Will that abomination come ashore?” queried Yanni.
“I don’t know. He seems to be aquatic,” shrugged Floria.
They kept running for about five minutes. It was raining more and more heavily and the ground had become muddy. Rainwater from the sky was streaming down along their skin.
Soon, they arrived in front of a tall cliff. They had nowhere to run right now.
“Have we gotten rid of him?” asked Yanni, panting heavily. He was extremely tired right now because he was carrying Aisling on his back the whole time.
Floria and Stasha looked back.
That enormous dollop of shadowy organic material which used to be Cheius was crawling towards them, which was composed of countless mouths, tentacles and eyes. The mouths of Cheius were screaming in weird voices. Even the most psychopathic artist of horrors wouldn’t dare to create such a profane thing.
Gradually, the fragrance of the rain dissipated, replaced by the stinky smell emanated by that moving mountain of twisted flesh.
In front of the four was a cliff of approximately twenty metres tall. They had no way to escape.
There was a great mouth at the centre of that abomination’s body, from which, four tentacles reached to the four and entangled them respectively. Then, they pulled the four into the great mouth of Cheius.
Screaming in panic, the four were falling through the long digestive tract of this monstrous mountain of flesh.
Floria closed her eyes and loaded her bow with an arrow.
They had failed completely. Cuore Celeste was taken away by Fungruus, and soon he would destroy it. In the abysses of the earth, the tentacle of Trigon was wriggling, eager to come back to the surface world again.
However, there was still hope. Soon Aisling would recover and with her help, the four might be able to beat Fungruus and retrieve Cuore Celeset.
After that, Aisling would enter the Sanctum of Life and bring the Rain of Regrowth to this world, though at the expense of her life …
Floria was hearing all the sounds around her. Besides the screaming sounds of her friends, she could also hear this Cheius’ heartbeat.
She unbent her finger. The arrow shot out from her string in a supersonic speed.
It pierced through all those layers of this Cheius’ skin and ended up stabbing into his mutant heart.
Then, the whole body of Cheius exploded. The four were drowned in an ocean of molten flesh. They struggled in the sea melting protein an attempt to leave Cheius’ decomposing body.
The dead flesh of Cheius was giving off some sort of nauseating smell. They really wanted to vomit right now but they held their breath because they needed to leave this chaos first.
IV
With crispy sounds like harps, rainwater was pouring down.
The girls took off their clothes to take a shower. They needed to wash those dirty sticky things on their skin.
Fortunately, they had Sylvana’s power, so that they were immune to elementalical radiation and they would never mutate or be poisoned.
However, they still needed to wash away those dirty protein-like things on their skin, which was the remaining of Cheius.
Cheius had already dead. His corpse was as large as the whole Grey Factory, and the smell given off by it was as stinky as the toilets of the whole world put together.
Therefore, they had escaped from the disgusting smell of Cheius’ corpse and now they were taking a shower and washing their dirty clothes under the rain.
After the girl finished, Yanni took off his harness and loincloth to take a shower too.
Finally, they had gotten rid of all the dirty things on their skin.
Although it was nearly at noon right now, because of the rainclouds, the world was as dark as the night. The earth was also wrapped by grey mist and they couldn’t see anything clearly at all.
Drowned in the mist, the world of wilderness looked silent and horrible … Luckily, the four had each other so that they wouldn’t feel afraid .
They walked forwards in order to find a cavern or something else that could shelter them from the rain.
After walking for half an hour, they found a small cabin.
It looked pretty old, and obviously, it had been abandoned.
Slowly and prudently, the four walked to the front of that cabin.
There were vines growing on the outer wall of that cabin. Obviously it had been abandoned for a long time.
