Chapter 79:
I Didn't Know My Sister is a Famous Cosplayer
Annoyance and curiosity are a powerful combination. Leaving Miki and Hana in charge of their now-dwindling lines, Rina and Haruka decide to investigate the disturbance themselves. I trail behind them, a silent guardian in their wake, my own sense of dread growing with every step we take towards the massive crowd.
We push our way through the sea of people, all of whom are staring, mesmerized, at a single booth. It is a booth that was not on the original floor plan, a late addition that has been set up in a large, central space.
When we finally get a clear view, we all stop dead.
It is not just a booth. It is an immersive experience. The entire space has been transformed into a fantastical, glowing forest from a fairy tale. Crystalline trees, pulsing with a soft, internal light, reach for the ceiling. A carpet of iridescent, artificial moss covers the floor. The air is filled with a gentle, melodic soundtrack and the scent of night-blooming flowers.
And in the center of it all, on a raised dais designed to look like a moonlit throne, sits LUNA.
The name is displayed on a large, elegant banner behind her. She is not just in costume. She is a living, breathing piece of art. She portrays a character none of us recognize- a Moon Elf Queen from a story we have never heard. Her posture is regal, her expression serene, almost cold. She looks out over the crowd not with a warm smile, but with the unapproachable perfection of a true monarch.
Her costume is on a level of artistry that is simply breathtaking. It is not just sewn; it is engineered. The fabric of her dress seems to be woven from captured starlight, shimmering with a light of its own. Delicate, articulated silver wings, as fine as a dragonfly's, are attached to her back, and they move, slowly, gracefully, fanning the air. Her makeup is flawless, giving her an otherworldly, doll-like perfection. She is not a person wearing a costume. She is a fantasy brought to life.
The crowd around her is silent, not with the boisterous energy of a fan line, but with a kind of hushed, reverent awe. They are not waiting for an autograph. They are witnessing a masterpiece.
Rina and Haruka just stare, their own magnificent costumes suddenly feeling like children's dress-up clothes in comparison.
"The fabric…" Rina whispers, her voice full of a shocked disbelief. "It is not lit externally. The light is woven into the fibers themselves. Fiber optics?"
"And the wings," Haruka mutters, her analytical mind whirring. "They are not pneumatic. The movement is too smooth. Is it a micro-servo system? The power source must be tiny. How did she hide it?"
They are not looking at a rival anymore. They are looking at a master artisan whose techniques are years ahead of their own. All their hard work, their talent, their status as the queens of the cosplay world- it all feels insignificant in the face of this.
Then, LUNA moves. She slowly raises a hand to wave at the crowd. The movement is fluid, graceful, and utterly perfect. And as she does, a small, crystalline pendant on her bracelet catches the light.
It is a small, five-pointed star. The exact same symbol as the royal crest from 'Starlight Paladin.'
My own breath catches in my throat. My brain short-circuits. That pendant. It is the symbol from the show I was just talking about with Aiwa Matsuki, the shy girl from my class. Why would this person, this... titan of cosplay, this unapproachably cool queen, have a pendant from that obscure old show? It has to be a coincidence. Maybe the star design is just popular in a new game I do not know about. It cannot be related. It is just a weird, high-level coincidence that is making my brain itch.
I look at her face, trying to see past the elaborate, elven makeup. The features are sharp, the expression is cold and confident. It looks nothing like the soft, timid Aiwa from my class. They are complete opposites. My brain, unable to reconcile the two, dismisses the thought entirely. It is impossible.
The new challenger is real. She is on a completely different level. And my life, already a five-alarm fire of complications, is about to get a whole lot brighter, and infinitely more dangerous.
