Chapter 40:
SANCTUARY OF FREQUENCY
Did you know? Each band in this story derives its name from specific influences that inspired them.
Toriteba originated from Tori No Teba. A chicken wing with filling originated from Indonesia's Japanese fast food chain (H*kb*n). They named this band because they don't know what to name it, but go, "Fuck it! We ball!" As they want to make a brand new identity from their past anarchic Jiraitei.
Toriteba's main influences include The Pillows, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Anna Tsuchiya (Blast), Olivia Lufkin (Trapnest), Bocchi the Rock (Kessoku Bando), and Girls Band Cry (Togenashi Togeari). They create nostalgic pop rock songs reminiscent of those commonly heard in early 2000s anime openings.
Yakomori originated from the word combination of Yakumo Yukari (a certain Touhou character). Due to Riku Tanaka's obsession with Touhou, Yakumo Yukari was his all-time favorite one. But before they named Yakomori, they brainstormed some ideas like Grindor Gore, Slitfang, or even Pisscorpse. But because these are too profane for high school, they settled with Yakomori.
Yakomori drew most of its influence from darker western metal bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Spiritbox, Slipknot, and Static-X. Even Yakomori found inspiration from Japanese metal bands like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, SiM, and Outrage.
Suede was named after a pre-existing British pop band, "Suede." It was originally Junichi's idea to name their band after this. But because the name wasn't fitting with their original music (Death Homesick), they needed another name that was hard-hitting but still retained a beauty to it.
That's when Hiroki chimed in with the idea of "Shiguri." Originated from the word "Shigure," which means a cold autumn rain. A slight reference to Ling Tosite Sigure, but also a distant reference to a violent action anime named "Shigurui."
Shiguri primarily influenced was from experimental rock bands such as Muse, Deftones, Radiohead, Evanescence, and Ling Tosite Sigure. While Shiguri may not reach the complexity of Ling Tosite Sigure, it still reflects the band members' personal influence and their instruments' contributions.
Finally, Procorat!
Tbh, this was much more in a weird spot. This originated from Sora, Mika, and Ren's confusion about what to name their band after the Sakuragawa LMC was left with just 3 people. But because Sora had once owned a literal Pro Co Rat pedal before selling it and replacing it with his B3n, that's what chimed in his mind. And the latter just nodded along.
Procorat took influences from garage rock or even American desert rock. Such as Royal Blood, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, and even a slight electronic edge of Pendulum.
In fact, before Procorat existed and when Sora was still in the 1st year, he used to be in a metalcore band named "Rygent." A direct reference to Xygen (Pre-Pendulum).
If you don't know, now you know.
