Chapter 21:

What’s Your Type?

Silent Tempest

Inei and all of the girls sit with their legs crossed on the floor, the old man walking past them slowly, walking back and forth. They all sit quietly, watching as he walks, then he stops in front of Azami.

"You are the reason the shaking was happening."

Everyone looks at Azami who has no reaction. The old man squints his eyes slightly.

"Interesting. You have no reaction or curiosity towards how?"

Azami does not speak, silence filling the room, then Azami scoffs.

"Fine, why did it happen?"

The master furrows his eyebrows at Azami.

"Why don't you fight me to find out? You clearly seem to think you know what's going on."

All the girls gasp looking at Azami, who doesn't flinch, a single drop of sweat coming down her forehead. She glances over at Inei, who puts his hands up.

You did this on your own, Azami. There is nothing I can do.

Azami then looks back at the master, then stands up, standing her ground to the master.

"I will take you on. I will show you why I have the highest potential."

Aneko grabs her arm.

"Azami, we're just learning! You don't stand a chance! You saw how he took down Inei!"

Azami looks at Aneko with soft eyes and slowly gets away from her grip.

"Just watch."

Aneko watches as Azami walks to the battle ring, the master lining up on the other side. Azami exhales deeply then readies herself in her starting stance. Suddenly, Inei gets a heavy feeling, Inei taken aback.

What is this strength?! It is otherworldly! I don't know where it is coming from! Surely it's not coming from Azami and there's no way it's coming from the master.

Inei looks at the old man who stands normal. An announcement begins playing on intercoms.

"Two fighters in position; are you ready?"

The old man exclaims weakly.

"Yes."

The automation speaks again.

"Master Tochi; ready."

Everyone looks in amazement, then Azami speaks without hesitation.

"Ready!"

The automation hesitates a moment, then speaks.

"Name?"

She proceeds to respond.

"Azami!"

There's another pause, then the machine speaks out.

"Master Tochi facing Azami! Begin in three, two, one, begin!"

Azami quickly rushes the man, who swiftly dodges a quick strike. The master then proceeds to dodge many quick punches and kicks by Azami, everyone watching in awe. Yui speaks first.

"Wow, look at Azami go, her movements are so quick and precise!"

Yasu then continues to speak once Yui finishes.

"It looks so easy for her, is this why he said she would be the best?"

Chura shakes her head.

"I don't think so. It looks so good."

Aneko finishes, her eyebrows squinting in to express her anger.

"It is so good it is almost like she already knows what she is doing."

They watch on as master Tochi and Azami fight, Inei evaluating in his mind, his face stuck in fear.

That power is the master, but how? He is just dodging all of Azami's attacks like she is a turtle on land!

Suddenly in the motion of one of Azami's strikes, master Tochi stomps his foot, a plank of the ground shooting up like a wall. Azami lands a strike on the wall, shattering the earth wall, multiple walls shooting up blocking all of her strikes, master Tochi standing and watching as his foot glows with a tan tint. Inei picks up on the glow immediately, the girls in shock by what they are seeing. Azami continues to fight by throwing multiple attacks, crushing one wall after another. Suddenly, a small lip extends behind Azami's foot, causing her to begin to fall as she steps backwards. As she falls, master Tochi appears above Azami and strikes her in her chest, knocking her to the ground hard, making her body ricochet into the air. Azami gasps for air then a pillar of earth below her shoots up and catches her flinging her into the roof. She then begins to free fall unconsciously, master Tochi catching her before she hits the ground, lying her on it softly. Master Tochi bows to her as the announcement plays.

"Master Tochi is victorious; Azami unable to continue the battle. Creating new table; Master Tochi with one win. Azami has zero."

A super large television screen lights up along the wall, displaying the ranking. Everyone stares with amazement and shock, master Tochi walking up to them.

"Does anyone else want to act arrogant?"

Everyone shudders, getting down on their hands and knees as if praying to him, all but Inei speaking.

"No sir!"

Master Tochi grunts, then Yasu slowly looks up, asking her question nervously.

"Sir, how did you do that?"

Master Tochi looks at her, his expression staying the same.

"I struck her a couple times and won."

Yasu shakes her head.

"No i understand that, but the movement of the ground, that was almost like you exist in a fantasy world!"

Master Tochi stares at her, then turns around.

"You will not understand. There is history and extreme training that comes with this power. You merely just began."

Master Tochi groans for a moment, then turns his head.

"However, it may not hurt to reveal what type you will be when you are ready. I will warn you, you will experience side effects that will relate to your element."

Everyone sits up in amazement, then look to each other, Yui speaking up.

"Should we do it? It would give Inei enough time to adapt before his game Saturday."

Aneko spouts out now, excitement coming through her words.

"Not only that, it would be cool to know what we could do in the future like how master Tochi controls the ground."

Yasu fidgets with her hair and her hands.

"I'm not sure this is a good idea, it's kind of odd, is it not?"

Chura shrugs.

"I think it would be pretty cool, I think my type will be so cool, I bet it will be flowers because it's beauty like me."

Inei looks down then looks at the girls.

I think this would be amazing, then we can have a way to combat against Rina's ice.

Inei nods to the girls, everyone but Yasu becoming excited. Master Tochi clicks the button on a remote, the stadium beginning to lower and a stand replacing it. An orb hovers over the stand, clear and colorless. Master Tochi walks up to it and touches it, the tan color that Inei saw glowing on his foot shinning in the orb. Master Tochi removes his hand and looks at his students.

"Anyone want to go first?"

Aneko stands up quick, raising her hand.

"Me sir! I will go first!"

Master Tochi puts his hand out, inviting her to come to the orb. She slowly walks towards it, Master Tochi taking both of her hands and placing them symmetrically on either side of the orb. He begins to mutter in a deep voice, slowly becoming louder.

"Let the elemental orb feel her soul, which type will be her toll?"

The orb begins flashing different colors in a slow tempo, then accelerating, then suddenly shutting off, the orb becoming solid black. The lights go out, everyone gasping, then a light shines on. The orb is the color red, the orb and Aneko's hands surrounded in flames. Aneko stares breathing heavy, scared and amazed at the same time. Then master Tochi removes her hands, the lights turning on and the orb returning colorless. Aneko looks at her hands in shock, being completely fine and burn free.

"Congratulations, Aneko. You will be able to control and use fire."

Aneko turns back to her friends, breathing heavy still with a smile on her face. She walks back to them, still looking at her hands, Yasu nervously asking her a question.

"Aneko? Are you okay? You're freaking me out."

Aneko looks up nodding.

"Yes, I'm okay, that is just a bizarre experience, nothing like I have ever experienced."

Master Tochi then points and speaks.

"You."

They all look at Yasu, who stares in fear.

"Yes, you. Come, it is your turn to see."

Yasu then begins to breathe quickly, waving her hands.

"Actually I don't think this is for me."

Suddenly master Tochi grunts, stomping and a piece of ground rising and pushing Yasu softly towards the orb. She lets it push her, Master Tochi taking her hands and placing them like Aneko's before. The orb begins flashing, the lights and orb turning dark. The color purple glows through the dark, shadows wrapping around her arms and fingers. Yasu stays completely silent, fear plastered in her eyes. He removes her hands and as it did with Aneko, the lights turn on the orb becomes colorless. Yasu looks at master Tochi who nods to her.

"Congratulations, Yasu. You will be able to control and use shadows."

Yasu nervously nods and walks back to her friends, still in shock of what happened. Yui steps forward, quietly walking to master Tochi, then speaking once at the orb.

"I want to see what I am, I wonder if I will also be shadows."

Master Tochi nods, placing her hands on the orb as he did the others. The same situation begins and everything goes back. The orbs light shines green, vines and flowers growing around and on the orb and Yui's arms. Master Tochi removes her arms, congratulating her that she will be able to control and use plant life. Yui walks back, noticing Chura looking at her with disappointment. Chura then walks up and doesn't even speak, placing her hands on the orb, master Tochi then adjusting them appropriately. The orb begins then everything goes dark. The light turns brown; Chura's arms turning to rock as the orb becomes jagged with ridges of rock. She removes her hands and the lights turn back on, master Tochi congratulating her for being able to use and control rocks and stones. Chura begins to pout walking back to her place, then all eyes land on Inei. Inei begins walking toward the orb, then places his hands perfectly on the orb. Everything continues as before, the orb flashing then everything going to black. The orb lights up dark blue, water flowing down Inei's skin along his veins like a river.

Water? My element is water? How is that going to stop Rina, who has the solid version of my type?! How will I beat her?!

Master Tochi tries to remove Inei's hands, but they are pressed incredibly tight to the ball, Inei holding on like a basketball.

"Inei you need to let go now."

Inei does not react, tears streaming down his cheek.

How can I stop her when she can stop all of my attacks with her own?! How can I keep her from hurting my friends?!

The room slightly begins to shake, everyone looking up to see dark clouds forming above their heads, the girls going and pulling on Inei's arms in a panic. Then suddenly Inei's hands slip off the orb, the clouds dispersing as fast as they grew. Inei lies on the floor with his head in his arms, everyone looking at him with concern. Master Tochi then mumbles to himself.

"Geez, water is not that bad."

Inei and the four girls all sit at a picnic table in the park, the sun beginning to set. They all talk while eating ice cream and Inei sits to the side, his hand in his palm looking into the trees. There is rustling and suddenly Azami appears.

"Thanks for waiting up on me, friends!"

Everyone but Inei looks at Azami blankly, then gasp, then burst out laughing. Azami angrily looking at them.

"Oh wow so funny! I get stuck under that old weaklings house and not a single one of you tried to find me! Luckily for me the old man showed me what you all did while I was helplessly out cold under the house."

Chura snickers, leaning over and muttering to the other girls.

"For a weak old man he sure did whoop her."

The girls laugh out loud again, Azami gritting her teeth, becoming incredibly angry.

"He had an advantage! But I will train and out class all of you and take my revenge with my own element!"

With the last word, static shoots down her body and ends on the floor, the girls looking at her in shock, Aneko speaking up.

"Hey, Azami, relax girl, we're just teasing you."

The static begins intensifying, Azami's hair raising with her breathing becoming faster.

"Face me, all of you!"

Everyone looks at her in shock, suddenly, there is a zap, and Azami falls to the ground unconscious once more. They all stare at Inei who has a black mark on his hand from the electric shock from her body. All the girls get quiet, then Yui speaks up.

"What is with that girl? She has been so angry recently."

Aneko then follows up, stabbing her ice cream repetitively with her spoon.

"I agree Yui, she's even worse than me and I know I am the worst about it in our group."

Chura then speaks up.

"Maybe it's our fault."

Everyone looks at her, she continues on.

"We all have been arguing with each other and being mean and trying to compete for Inei. We have been putting stress on her because she wants nothing more than for all of us to get along. Maybe if we realized that sooner she wouldn't be out cold for the second time in one day."

They all look at Chura in complete shock, the silence speaking loudly. Chura looks at all of them.

"What? Did I say something wrong?"

Yasu shakes her head.

"No, actually you said the smartest thing any of us could have said. You said exactly the right thing."

Yui and Aneko both nod in agreement, Chura smiling with glee. Then Yasu speaks again.

"Hey, where is Azami and Inei?"

They look to where Azami was, her being gone along with Inei as well.

Azami's eyes open, she slowly sits up putting a hand to her neck sucking her teeth. She looks over to see Inei sitting in a chair in her room, his phone in his hand. Azami shyly looks away, then feels her hair that is standing straight up still.

"What, happened to me? We were at the park and suddenly we're here."

Inei hands her his phone, she begins reading it to herself.

"You lost your mind. You were very angry after we left you at master Tochi's house and you challenged to take everyone on at once. I knocked you out before this would happen and brought you home. You have been asleep for a couple of hours."

Azami hands Inei his phone back to him then looks away with an embarrassed look.

"I'm so sorry, I have just been so frustrated lately with all the arguing, and then I got humiliated by master Tochi with his land techniques that I was enraged. I'm still going to get my revenge on him for that for making it look so easy to beat me."

Inei types on his phone then again hands his phone to Azami again.

"What element did the orb say you will obtain?"

Azami looks at Inei with curiosity.

"What do you mean? You were given a type?"

Inei nods, then Azami looks at her hands, static sparking in her fingers.

"Do you think that my type may be, electricity?"

Inei tilts his head, thinking to himself.

Considering that she has had the static a bit often since the fight, I just don't understand why she has it without the orb.

Azami notices Inei's thinking, then quickly speaks.

"It's okay, I like my type."

Inei stares at her for a moment then types on his phone and hands it to her.

"What color did the orb turn when you used it?"

Azami tilts her head to Inei.

"What orb?"

Inei lifts his eyebrows, silence loud as they stare at each other, then Azami hands Inei his phone back to him, then Inei types more, handing it back to her.

"So you unlocked your typing without the orb?"

Azami shakes her head.

"Inei I have no idea what orb you are talking about."

Inei nods slowly, then takes his phone and types more, handing it back to her.

"This is why you are to be the greatest; you unlocked your type without the orb of sorting. That seems incredible!"

Azami laughs nervously, a small grin on her face.

"You know I'm happy for that and all, but I really do just want to relax from it all for the night. Inei, can I have a hug?"

Inei looks at her and opens his arms, Azami slowly getting up and wrapping her arms around him and him her. Inei then hears sniffling, then tears begin soaking his shirt. Inei looks down to her with concern, Azami taking one hand rubbing her eye.

"It's okay, really. I am just stressed is all. Everything has been a bit, strange lately. Plus it hurts my heart to see my friends fight. I know it's not your fault. I am just irritable."

Inei nods and holds her tightly, Azami slowly getting comfortable, then speaks.

"Inei, we are just friends, right? Like, you don't see me that way."

Inei nods softly, agreeing with her ask. Azami smiles happily.

"Good. We are just friends. We don't need anything more, and that makes me happy enough."

Inei nods in agreement.

I have never seen Azami speak so calmly and sanely. I could get used to this version of her.

Azami suddenly pulls away.

"You can go home now, or if you want you can sleep on the couch and we can go to school tomorrow."

Inei shakes his head, Azami smiles at him.

"I understand. You need to shower plus you don't have extra clothes to wear to school. I'll see you tomorrow then!"

Azami quickly grabs her clothes and a towel and goes into the bathroom, locking the door.

Inei stands in bewilderment, then slowly leaves Azami's house, walking home. As he walks, he begins to hear rustling around him, Inei being aware of it but not responding. He begins to walk faster, the rustling becoming louder the faster he walks, Inei knowing for sure now that there is someone following him. He quickly stops and looks around, getting in a ready stance, then nothing. All falls silent, Inei looking around quickly.

It's not Rina, she would have just confronted me. It must be someone else.

Inei continues looking around with suspicion, then begins walking again, the sound of steps slowly echoing from the bushes. Inei then stops, then takes off in a full sprint, ignoring the footsteps from there on. He reaches his house and enters and closes it quickly, taking a couple of deep breathes and relaxing, going to his room to complete his nightly routine and go to bed.

Inei opens his eyes, sluggishly sitting up, then casually walks to his bathroom, getting ready for school then heads for campus. When he arrives, he finds Azami who is running in place, being scolded by Aneko who is sweating so bad her uniform is soaked.

"Azami will you quit bouncing off the walls?! It's so annoying!"

Azami continues running in place, a giant smile on her face.

"I feel normal, I do not understand what you're talking about."

Inei approaches the both of them super calm, Aneko starting in immediately.

"Well, look who decided to finally show up! And you are not even the last one to get here! I haven't seen anyone else other than you two idiots!"

Inei stares at her blankly.

I don't really care what's wrong with her. I'm just here to study.

Inei walks past them, casually walking to his class, Azmai practically sprinting a couple feet to catch up, Aneko sluggishly approaching them from behind. Azami begins to talk without taking a breath.

"Hey Inei how'd you sleep that's wonderful did you know I was the first one here today I got everything ready before I came for today's test did you remember we had a test today I didn't so I studied all out to curriculum three times before I got to school today and I also ate breakfast did the laundry worked out took two showers and then ate breakfast again."

Aneko shouts being incredibly irritated.

"Azami enough! Take a break damn it!"

Azami continues after her shouting.

"Aneko did I offend you I'm sorry I was just trying to talk about my morning because it was really strange that I could do all of that at once and I'm trying to voice my feelings about it and I feel like talking to the two closest people to me would be the greatest people to talk to by the way where are the other girls I miss them are they coming to school today I really hope so so I can talk to them also because we are all great friends race you to the classroom three two one go!"

And with that Azami takes off getting to the classroom very quickly, Inei and Aneko slowly making their way over there. They all take thier respective seats, then a whisper enters Inei's ear.

"Good morning, Inei."

He jumps out of his skin, seeing Yasu right next to him, a soft grin on her face.

She scared the life out of me! I did not even hear her come up to me! It's like she's completely silent!

Yasu covers her mouth putting her hand on Inei's shoulder.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you! I thought you heard me! I just wanted to say good morning to you."

She then takes off to her seat, her footsteps not making a single sound. Inei watches and then hears the door swing open, Chura enters looking incredibly lethargic. He tilts his head to her, Chura immediately looking at him with an annoyed look.

"What Inei? What do you want?"

Inei shakes his head, then Chura takes slow steps forward, her feet seemingly having weights holding her down.

"I don't know what is going on with me! I feel so tired and heavy!"

Aneko yells out loud to her.

"Maybe if you shared some of that cleavage with all of us instead of hogging it all you wouldn't be so heavy!"

Chura's face turns blood red, embarrassed and humiliated.

"Aneko."

Aneko shivers, Yasu standing behind her, a purple aura glows around her body as black wisps levitate into the air off her body, Aneko not even realizing she had gotten there before she spoke.

"You are to apologize to Chura, now."

Aneko's body begins glowing red, her hair beginning to wave like wind blowing on it, crackling sounds ringing out.

"Or what?"

Inei watches both of them, relaxed.

What is this feeling? I know I should step in but I feel like I just do not care.

Azami runs between them, pushing them away from each other.

"You two will stop now. This day is great and there is no need to be acting this way. We are at campus. You two can settle this after class when we go to training."

Aneko and Yasu face off, then slowly the glows around their bodies settle, Aneko's hair lowering and the crackling stopping, Yasu's hair lowering and turn back to its original color from black. Aneko glances over to Chura, who is on the verge of tears.

"I'm sorry."

After she apologizes aggressively, she sits down in her chair, sweat hitting the desk and evaporating as soon as it hits. Inei then looks around, then realizes.

We are pretty much all here, where the heck is Yui? She is almost never late and she isn't even in her chair. Eh, oh well.

Time goes by and the class ends, everyone heading to the house for their training. When they enter, Azami is the first, Yasu is next having somehow magically gotten there, then Inei, then Chura and Aneko together. Master Tochi walks out and looks at all of them, disbelief on his face.

"Your effects, they're so strong among all of you. Maybe you are ready to know."
