Chapter 3:
The Eternal Adventure
(Lucan was slowly awakening from his unconsciousness, quickly remembering what happened and sitting up quickly; causing him to rive in pain.)
Elyndra: "STAY STILL YOU DUMBASS!" (She punches Lucan in the face and he falls back again.)
Lucan: "That was a bit aggressive no?" (Lucan was rubbing his chin as he laid there and looked at her.)
Elyndra: "You're hurt you fool, if you move my magic won't be able to help you."
Lucan: "What happened? My memory is kind of hazy."
(Elyndra stared at him in disbelief as she held both of her hands together palms out towards him emitting a green light as he slowly started to feel better; Lucan quickly realizing she was using healing magic.)
Elyndra: "You fought the former Knight Marshal Kael Veynar and you won, not after having his sword plunged into your shoulder." (She gestured the the bandaged shoulder as Lucan looked at her and pushed her hands away.)
Lucan: "I appreciate it, but I feel better now."
Elyndra: "Whatever you say, I can't heal you much more anymore anyway; despite me being an Elf I don't really have an affinity for healing magic."
Lucan: "What does your race have to do with it."
Elyndra: "Are you truly that dense or just never left your village?"
Lucan: "Maybe a little bit of both." (Elyndra gave him a dry stare as Lucan got up and scratched his head."
Elyndra: "The Race of Elves I come from have a special affinity for healing magic; my people don't have many warriors because of this, I am one of the small few that has an affinity for a different magic, giving why I am a warrior for them."
(Lucan looked around at all the now free prisoners as they all gathered around him and he nervously started to flick his head around.)
Lucan: "Uh, can I help you all?"
Woman: "We want to thank you for saving us and defeating that monster."
Lucan: "Oh I didn't do much, anyone could of done that; I did let my anger get the best of me though."
Elyndra (Under her breath): "That's an understatement."
Lucan: "Instead of thanking me, remember this and if you ever see someone in need of help; choose to help them in anyway you can."
(They all smiled and shook their heads as Lucan walked off towards the bandit leaders tent to retrieve something of his.)
Lucan: "Excuse me, I must retrieve something they took from me."
(Lucan stepped into the tent and looked around until his eyes laid upon his fathers sword laying on the big table in the corner of the tent and he walked over and picked it up and made sure it was fine; he then caught something out of the corner of his eye. Smaller armor seemly meant to be for a woman as he fastened his sword on his hip and scooped up the armor returning to Elyndra.)
Lucan: "I am going to assume this is yours?"
Elyndra: "HAH, My armor! I thought they had most likely thrown it out."
Lucan: "It was sitting in an open chest at the foot of the leaders bed; I assumed it was yours so I grabbed it." (Elyndra scooped it up and ran off in a giddy skip as she went to get changed into it.)
Lucan (Thinking): "I should go check on that guys body and give him a proper burial."
(Lucan marched over to where the Knights body laid, as he slowly took his armor off and set it aside in a neat pile and took his sword and set it with him as he grabbed a shovel from the bandits gear and started to dig a hole; Elyndra walked over curious.)
Elyndra: "Why give him a burial? He was a slaver and he condoned the deflowering of women and even tried to kill you."
Lucan: "He was still a human and a great Knight, he deserves even this much." (Elyndra looked at Lucan and then grabbed a shovel and joined him in the hole as they finished it and placed his body in the hole and replaced the dirt; marking his grave with his helmet.)
Elyndra: "I am going to go find food and get everyone fed, I plan to move out and escort these women and children to the nearest town; you're welcome to accompany us. You may want to find some new clothes and get cleaned up though."
(Lucan looked down and realized he was shirtless and suddenly cold.)
Lucan: "Yeah you're probably right, and of course I will accompany you to escort them; what type of man would I be if I didn't do such?"
Elyndra: "A man who fought to free them and doesn't owe them anymore?" (She said as she walked away; Lucan walked off to find clothes that fit him.)
(As the day drifted into the Night and it was getting a lot cooler in the lands, Lucan was seen sitting at the foot of a tree overlooking a hill as he looked at the sun setting and pondered what went wrong with this life as he hadn't heard Elyndra approach him.)
Elyndra: "You know you're allowed to stay in the camp."
Lucan: "I do not wish to startle the Women and Children, I am the only man here and I am quite imposing; I do not wish to frighten them so I will remain here. Besides the view is immaculate."
Elyndra: "If you insist sir, I will be in the camp watching over them all; we will be leaving at first light."
Lucan: "I shall be ready to depart when you awaken; we'll use the normal wagons and carriages so the women don't have to walk."
Elyndra: "Alright." (As she started to walk away she paused when Lucan spoke once more.)
Lucan: "My name is Lucan, you can call me that; I am no knight or warrior, I don't deserve to be called sir. I am just a Commoner."
(Elyndra continued to walk down the hill as Lucan looked at the sunset and slowly started to drift into sleep as exhaustion from his long few days hit him and he fell into deep slumber.)
(As the sun began to rise, Elyndra awoke from her slumber pulling on her armor and boots as she grabbed her blade and walked out of the tent to see Lucan already awake and readying the carriages and wagons for transportation of all the women and children.)
Lucan: "Morning Elyndra, I have already prepared all of the wagons for transportation, we'll get some of the younger women to drive them and you will lead the pack on the big one as I walk along them."
Elyndra: "I can walk if you wish to ride the wagon."
Lucan: "No thanks, I would like to be ready to go if we were to be intercepted or attacked once again." (Lucan finished packing everything as he walked over and quickly started a fire and pulled out a big pot and began chopping ingredients with a small knife; as he started to make a breakfast stew.)
Elyndra: "What makes you so eager to get going this morning? You seemed kind of mopey last night; is there any reason for that?"
Lucan: "Oh just some memories that aren't important; the big focus now is to get all these women to the nearby town, which is about 10 miles from here; about a day travel so we can turn them into the guards and they can get them to their respective homes." (Everyone began to awake as they smelled the food that Lucan was making and he began to serve everyone until every bit of the food was gone; Elyndra being the last one to be served as he then packed up the remaining stuff and started to get everyone in the wagons and carriages and sorted the drivers.)
Lucan: "Listen up everyone, this is going to be some rough travel; there is snow on the horizon for us and It won't be easy, you will follow Elyndra's carriage and don't lag behind. We can't afford to get split up, if you become tired there will be more to relieve you of driving; I will be walking so if you need anything just request me up the line and I will be there."
Elyndra: "Lets go everyone, we must make good time."
(Elyndra started the horses as Lucan walked beside the carriage she was driving and the caravan followed close behind her.)
(Lucan was keeping pace with the wagon as he was whistling and scanning the surroundings as he walked; he pulled a little dagger from his back pocket and picked up a small chunk of wood and started to whittle something out of it as they traveled until he heard some noises come from the woods and halted Elyndra and the others.)
Lucan: "Stay here with the caravan, I heard a noise ahead of us and I am going to check it out." (Lucan drew a bow from the side of the wagon and attached a quiver the other side of his hip as he marched forward scanning the area; suddenly a shadow figure lumbered out of the bushes and he put a arrow to his quiver and let it fly striking the target in the side as it came down in a flurry and he slowly approached.)
Elyndra: "What is it Lucan?"
Lucan: "Its a deer, stand down." (Lucan kneeled beside the dying animal as he took the small dagger he was just using to carve and put it out of its misery; Lucan began to dress the animal as he gathered all the resources from it he can, putting all of it in the wagon as he pulled what was left to the side and motioned for Elyndra to start again.)
Elyndra: "You seem to be fairly acquainted with the ways of survival in the woods; are you a hunter of sorts?"
Lucan: "That was one of my many duties in the village I lived in; I cut wood, helped attend to farmers crops, plowed fields, hunted, I did pretty much anything that needed done for the villagers."
Elyndra: "And your parents were ok with you doing all this work?"
Lucan: "My parents died when I was 6, I've been on my own ever since; the villagers were kind enough to take me in when I had no where else to go."
Elyndra: "I apologize for bringing it up Lucan, I did not have any clue."
Lucan: "Don't feel bad, I don't feel bad because of it; how would you have known?" (Lucan grinned as he then pulled the piece of wood and dagger out once again.)
Elyndra: "So where is you village?"
Lucan: "Gone, it burned down some years ago its been now; I don't know where any of the people are, they were all gone when I awoke."
Elyndra: "That's tragic, they just left you behind and didn't bother to come look?"
Lucan: "Yeah something like that."
Elyndra: "I feel as if there is something more you are not telling; but I'm a pretty good judge of person and I can tell you don't want to talk about it so I will not pry."
Lucan: "Probably for the best, you only have to deal with me for a little while longer anyways; We have about 4 miles left and you can go along your way."
(Lucan picked up his pace to now be in front of the caravan and started to get faster as he then turned.)
Lucan: "I am going to go ahead and alert the guards about the arrival; I trust you to take care of them from here. We will meet up once we are in the town and I'll assist with the unloading."
(Lucan took off into the distance as Elyndra looked on not able to say anything before he was out of sight and ear shot, she sighed as she looked back at all the people and continued on the path.)
At The Western Gate of Town
(Lucan bounded over the hill as two guards standing at a closed gate came into sight; he smiled as he picked up pace quickly coming upon them as they approached him.)
Guard 1: "Halt, what is your business in town?"
Lucan: "I am here to tell you guys; There is a woman bringing 5 wagons full of women and children this way, they should be about two and a half miles out."
Guard 2: "What is this of women and children? Why do you and this Woman have them and what is our business with them?"
Lucan: "They were captured and imprisoned by slavers; led by a Knight Marshal, the bandits are currently held up in the hills to the east, as for the Knight Marshal he is dead."
Guard 1: "A Knight marshal? Dead? This must be relayed to the King and Queen at once, such treason can not be let go."
Guard 2: "Thank you boy, we will take it from here and get these women to their respective homes when they arrive; as for the Knight do you know his name?"
Lucan: "I do, his name was Kael Veynar, The Black fang."
Guard 1: "THE BLACK FANG? YOU'RE CERTAIN OF THIS?" (The Knight took a step back in surprise as the 2nd guard's eyes widened.)
Lucan: "I am positive; he attempted to murder me by driving his sword through my heart after I had escaped their imprisonment."
Guard 2: "Who slayed this man? Was there another Knight or perhaps a mage with you?"
Lucan: "No, it was just me and the woman that can fight amongst the prisoners; for who slayed the Knight Marshal, It was me." (Lucan dug into the pack that was on his back as he fetched a shoulder plate with a wolf sigil on it and presented it to the guards.)
Guard 1: "By the heavens, you slayed The Black Fang?"
Guard 2: "Boy this is a very big deal, he was one of the strongest Knight Marshals around; as well as the lord of this region."
Lucan: "Well it was survival of the fittest and if I must be arrested then I will take any punishment that is deemed fitting."
Guard 1: "No boy, there will be no punishment; as long as there is witnesses to self defense then you will simply be on your way."
Guard 2: "Here have a rest, we will wait for the wagons."
Lucan: "I would rather stay here and wait myself if you don't mind."
(Lucan dropped his pack and leaned against the guard shack as he started to carve the piece of wood again and in just a few more minutes Elyndra came into view with the wagon as she pulled off and hopped off to meet Lucan.)
Elyndra: "So after we are done here, what's your plan from here?"
Lucan: "Honestly I don't have one, I guess I am going to work for some sort of work."
Elyndra: "Well I'll be around for a little bit, so if you need any help or get in any trouble come seek me out."
Lucan: "I appreciate that, but I shall not burden you with my problems."
Elyndra: "I owe you my life and so do all these people; if it wasn't for you we would be slaves."
Lucan: "It was nothing, could you watch this unloading? I haven't slept in days and I think I'm going to go take a rest at a tavern."
Elyndra: "Of course go on, It was nice to meet you and again I can't thank you enough Lucan."
Lucan: "Don't mention it." (Lucan said this as he slung his pack over his shoulder and waved as he walked away.)
(Lucan was walking around as his body was starting to feel the fatigue and his stomach was rumbling when he realized that he had no money; He pondered on what to do until he came up with an idea.)
Lucan (Thinking): "Guess I'll just have to go find a job; there has to be a lumberjack or something near by in need of some help."
(Lucan was walking down the main road of the town with vendors lining both sides and countless people surrounding them, but he quickly began to become blurry eyed and started to become unstable as he began to stumble forward before coming too and realizing that he was severely hungry and tired.)
Lucan (Thinking): "I need to hurry and get some food."
(Lucan shook his head as he began to walk again as he quickly realized that everyone had cleared the middle of the road and were looking at him with stern and concerned looks; he was confused before he ran face first into a woman as she bumped into his torso and legs and started to fall before he caught her and began apologizing profusely.)
Lucan: "I am so sorry, I am not myself right now; I did not mean any disrespect by my actions." (He quickly realized she was not of this area with foreign looking robes and a fan covering her face as she slightly blushed; he suddenly sensed danger as he turned to see a black haired man in similar traditional clothes slashing straight at his head. He reacted last second ducked the blade as he twisted around and pulled his sword to defend himself from incoming attacks.)
Lucan: "This is a complete misunderstanding, I believe we need to all calm down and talk this through before someone truly gets hurt."
???: "You dishonor the Princess and heir to the royal bloodline of the Land of the Glowing Sun and expect to get away with it?!?!"
Lucan: "Again, I didn't mean any disrespect it was a total accident and I will profusely apologize for my actions if you would just allow me!"
(Lucan began to slightly sweat and panic as he realized if he did not think quickly that he was going to die for a complete misunderstanding as he slowly began to feel the sluggishness of the lack of nutrients in his body; he quickly devised a plan as he pushed an attack from the man back and went on the offense bearing down with heavy strikes on the mans blade.)
???: "You lack the skill to beat me, you disgrace that blade and your family; Surrender now and die a warriors death!"
Lucan: "Don't talk about my family." (Lucan quickly pulled his sword back as the man slashed down on him without even a second to react.)
???: "And Now you die!"
(Lucan grabbed a piece of the Knights armor from before and caught the blade, bending the piece of armor around it; grabbing and jerking the blade free from the mans hand as he was now disarmed.)
???: "YOU DARE DISHONOR A DUEL BETWEEN TWO MEN WITH SUCH TOMFOOLERY AND TRICKS?"
Lucan: "ITS BARELY HONORABLE WHEN YOU ATTACKED ME OUT OF NO WHERE FOR A MISUNDERSTANDING YOU DAMNED FOOL."
(The Woman giggles behind her fan as the man looks at her and bows to her and looks embarrassed.)
???: "Forgive me for raising my voice in your presence Lady Kiyomi."
Kiyomi Sakuragi | Princess of the Land of the Glowing Sun|: "It is quite alright Ryota, now apologize to this man; he did not mean any disrespect towards me as it was clearly an accident."
Ryota Ishikawa | 2nd Commander of the Royal Sakuragi Army |: "Forgive me for my thickheaded actions in regard to attacking you, I hope we can reconcile over a cup of sake if Lady Kiyomi allows for such." (Ryota then bowed to Lucan as Lucan sheathed his sword and looked a little confused.)
Lucan: "No need to bow to me or to apologize; I understand you were just doing your job. I just didn't feel like dying quite yet." (Lucan unbent the metal and tossed it aside as he pulled a rag from his pocket and wiped the dirt from Ryota's blade and presented it back to him.)
Kiyomi: "I would quite enjoy you joining us for a cup of Sake, its a local delicacy where we are from; you intrigue me quite a bit."
Ryota: "Lady Kiyomi, you wish to join us for a drink? That is not quite lady like."
Kiyomi: "Do not tell me what is Lady like Ryota; Come follow us to where we are staying."
(Lucan looked confused as Ryota sheathed his blade and they began to walk and Lucan reluctantly followed them.)
(Kiyomi and Ryota lead Lucan to a very fancy home as they step in and they sit down on pillows around a small table as they gesture for him to sit down as Ryota takes his sword off his side and sets it next to him one the ground and Kiyomi puts her Fan up as Lucan follows their lead and awkwardly sits on the pillow awaiting their next movement or gesture.)
Ryota: "Your lands are very beautiful, many scenic views; but your people are quite ugly." (Ryota grabbed a small container with a foreign marking on it that Lucan did not recognize and pulled three tiny cups from a small container from under the table and proceeded to pour liquid into all three glasses.)
Lucan: "You're going to have to forgive their rudeness; I do not believe many have seen people from a foreign land so they likely do not trust you."
Ryota: "It is very understandable, I myself do not trust foreigners when in our own lands, not since the war began."
(Lucan tried to hide his confusion and surprise at the word war, he did not want to give away that he had no clue what was going on in the current world and decided to remain silent.)
Kiyomi: "If you do not mind, I would like to ask you a question." (Kiyomi looked at Lucan as Ryota pulled out small pieces of bread in a basket and Lucan quickly grabbed one and started to eat it.)
Lucan: "Forgive me for my rudeness, I have not eaten in days; I do not mind at all I am a completely open book ask away."
Kiyomi: "It is very evident that you are unique in a way, as for one you were not scared of us and just kept walking in the middle of the road. Another reason is that you are clearly not very skilled with that sword of yours, yet its such a finely crafted blade and you are a very strong man, why are you so different?" (Lucan Looked at her slightly embarrassed as he glanced down at the sword and returned his gaze back to her as he thought of a way to respond to this.)
Lucan: ".... I Guess I would say that I am different in the way that I hold no fear for anyone because it is pointless."
Ryota: "What do you mean by this friend?"
Lucan: "To be afraid of something or someone would be to allow them to overcome me in my mind, one fears death; but its an inevitable thing that is going to happen but that does not mean I must be afraid of anything in this world. It all happens for some reason."
Kiyomi: "Such wise words for such a young man, you're not an ordinary person and that clearly shows."
Lucan: "The Answer to your second part of the question, this blade was my fathers and it is very dear to me; recently my village was burnt down and I was left behind after saving a young boy, In a twist of fate I lived and I gathered what was left of my things and started on my journey. For the reason why I am so strong is that I just am naturally this strong I guess."
Kiyomi: "I see, you have a very kind heart; that much is very evident."
Ryota: "To have a warriors heart at such a young age is truly a miracle and a blessing."
(Lucan continued to eat on the bread as Kiyomi pondered something and looked at Lucan once again as he Ryota and Lucan both took a drink; having already drank many before.)
Kiyomi: "I have quickly realized that we've gone without your name sir, would you mind telling us."
(Lucan cleared his throat and looked at Kiyomi and Ryota.)
Lucan: "I apologize for my rudeness, I had not realized with everything that has happened. I am Lucan Vance it is a pleasure to meet you both."
Kiyomi: "Lucan Vance I would ask you to accompany me and my escort Ryota to the capitol as my second guard if you do not have previous arrangements." (Ryota choked on his Sake as he drank it and looked at Kiyomi.)
Ryota: "Lady Kiyomi you can surely not be serious with this proposal?"
Kiyomi: "For a matter a fact Sir Ishikawa I am, and if you have an issue with this proposal; you can return to my father back home and explain to him why you failed your mission; Lucan here can be my sole escort."
Ryota: "Forgive me for my statement Lady Kiyomi, that was extremely out of order and if you wish to have him along for our journey; that would be excellent."
(Kiyomi glared at Ryota as she returned her gaze to Lucan who was in shock at this proposal.)
Kiyomi: "You will be adequately compensated for your time with us; you will make the same pay as Sir Ishikawa here. The reason for this proposal was because we were not lone before, we actually came with an entire small group of soldiers but they were sadly wiped out in an attack by bandits and I believe between you and Sir Ishikawa we will be subsequently armed."
Lucan: "I am not sure how much of a help I will be, but if you would like me to accompany you; I will gladly do so and lend my hand in anyway I can."
Kiyomi: "Excellent, we will leave in 1 day; you are welcome to stay in the 3rd bedroom in this home as it is simply just a safe house supplied by the King."
Lucan: "Thank you Lady Kiyomi."
(Kiyomi got up as she collected her things and slowly walked away opening a door and turning once more glaring at Ryota and smiling at Lucan as she excused herself.)
Kiyomi: "I shall now head to sleep, me and Ryota will be gone early in the morning to shop for supplies so do not expect us to be here if you are not already awake when we leave."
Lucan: "Yes Ma'am I understand."
(Kiyomi left the room leaving only Ryota and Lucan in the room drinking.)
Ryota: "She is quite stubborn when it comes to things like this; but since you're a good man and seem to be capable in other ways, certainly not fighting I am quite ok with your company on this journey." (Ryota got up and walked to the same door and opened it before turning back and looking at Lucan.)
Ryota: "But if you put the Princess in danger, I will kill you without a second thought."
(Lucan looked on at Ryota as he left and disappeared; after a few minutes of pondering Lucan got up and quickly found the 3rd room in the house and looked around at the room with a small desk and chair with a singular twin sized bed in the corner as he propped his sword against the desk and took off his cloak and armor. He took his boots off and retired under the covers of the bed slowly drifting off into slumber as he thought about the journey to come accompanying the Princess and her Mighty Escort.)
