Chapter 5: Chalkboard

Then, Mr. Forbirinto gave Hillary nine scenes of Chalkboard and said, "Here're nine scenes of Chalkboard where you can solve riddles on their two sides." And then he asked her, "Are you ready?" "I sure am!" said Hillary. "Then it's time to start with the first scene of Chalkboard: September." said Mr. Forbirinto. "Thanks, sir," said Hillary. So Hillary began to solve riddles on two sides of the Chalkboard scenes. First, in the first scene of Chalkboard, September, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find an apple, two red-heads, some bark, a bunny, the Earth, a bench for a park, a dog named WINNIE, an orange fall leaf, a cactus, a pencil, a Fire Chief, a squirrel, a polka-dot snake, a hot dog, a marble, a long-handled rake, an anchor, a fire hose, the line for guitar, the sun, 3 O'CLOCK, a four-pointed star, an antler, NATURE WALK, a tiny rag doll, a piece of green chalk, an airplane, two acorns, three O's in a row, T 4 2 and a car on the go, and she did. Second, in the second scene of Chalkboard, October, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find an eraser, two juicy red fruits, an eye-patch, a bike, two ankle-high boots, a spider, a thumb, three sailing ships, one pumpkin seed, two paper clips, a bandana, the line for a pear, a pumpkin pie, a red teddy bear, a fierce jack o'lantern, a circle half blue, two ladders, a duck and a ghost who says BOO, a smile, a sideways tail, OCTOBER, a nut, a fish-eating whale, a hot-air balloon, a ruler that's red, yellow bananas and a hat on a head, and she did. Third, in the third scene of Chalkboard, November, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a pretzel, some beans in a hand, red corn, eight candles, a BUS TRIP planned, corn that has popped, the line for a square, a spoon, green onions, jacks in a pair, a feather, some musical peas, a shaker, a pie, a ring of keys, TORTILLAS, a deer, a line for a bone, a cornhusk doll and a beanstalk that's grown, and she did. And she also used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a yellow toy ladybug for the seventh time, and she did too. Fourth, in the fourth scene of Chalkboard, December, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a pine cone, paint colored blue, a light bulb, a yo-yo, a candy cane, a flashlight, a bow, a bell and it's match, the top of a mountain, MARACAS from scratch, a lantern, paint colored yellow, a musical day, a gingerbread fellow, a sleeping dog, a line for a hat, an explosion to come and an acrobat, and she did. And she also used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a yellow toy ladybug for the eighth time and she did too. Fifth, in the fifth scene of Chalkboard, January, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a DIPPER, a snowball to throw, a spoon, a rabbit, the planet PLUTO, a connect-the-dots snowflake, wind in the air, a window, ice skates, one penguin with hair, a sled, the line for a sock, the orbit for Mars, a fish on a block, a tape dispenser, a mountain to ski, a roof, a door, the word POETRY, a shovel, a line for a mole, an astronaut, two eyes of coal, a striped stocking cap, five glasses that sing, two buddies with books and a day for a KING, and she did. Sixth, in the sixth scene of Chalkboard, February, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a groundhog, the line for a drum, a valentine's rebus, a NEW YEAR to come, a raindrop, a penny, PRESIDENT'S DAY, a sharp dragon's tooth, the love of JOSE, some GLITTER, two baseball caps, a gingerbread heart, a card made of scraps, her name, a mountain, a stick that's a yard, a shadow, a tack and a woven card, and she did. Seventh, in the seventh scene of Chalkboard, March, a tortoise, a seabird the flies, a nest in a tree, two crocodile eyes, a homemade pinwheel, a line for a plate, a coiled snake, a cup labeled, KATE, a shamrock, peas called BLACK-EYED, three horns, a car, a bow that's been tied, three robin's eggs, a cube of ice, two big bunny ears, REPTILES twice, a T-rex, a red-breasted bird, a tornado, a seedling, a chime to be heard, a dinosaur egg, the line for a horse, a paper fan and the end of a course, and she did. Eighth, in the eighth scene of Chalkboard, April, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a giraffe, a pouch, a lake, a green caterpillar, a birthday cake, a butterfly drawing, a rebus that sings, glasses, a frog, recyclable things, a JOEY, the sun, the word ZOO, the egg of a snake, the word KANGAROO, marigolds budding, two turtle eggs, an umbrella, a yo-yo, a tadpole with legs, six rain clouds, a flowering twig, two purple ears, the line for a pig, an EARTH DAY poster, a springtime bouquet, a blue ball that bounces and a Fool's holiday, and she did. And finally, ninth, in the ninth scene of Chalkboard, May, Hillary used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a SISTER, a triangle square, the line for a spider, a cake, a chair, the wing of a fly, MATT's family tree, pink insect wings, a musical bee, a rainbow, a grass-hopping bug, the line for two faces, a tulip, a hug, four paper dolls, a gardening glove, a bottle of bubbles and a card made with love, and she also used her Riddle Solver Ray 3,000 to find a yellow toy ladybug for the ninth time and she did too. When Hillary finished solving the riddles in all nine Chalkboard scenes, Mr. Forbirinto came to her and said, "Amazing job, you completed all nine Chalkboard scenes!" So Mr. Forbirinto gave Hillary a red Chalkboard badge. "Thanks, Mr. Forbirinto," said Hillary. "You're welcome," said Mrs. Forbirinto.
