Chapter 13 - Violation (1)

Two days pass. The virus spreads throughout our village. Guardian Keren remains unconscious, but the pills brought to him avert the danger of death. In addition, Maïko has been released from the infirmary.

However, the infection spreads among the quarantined villagers. Even the chief is not immune. Only the guardian Gwen escapes it, thanks to the latest antidote concocted by Ay.

As a result, they recommend that those who are not infected remain in their respective huts. So we, the orphans, give them a few bags of food and water so that they have everything they need.

Indeed, Ay confirms that our immunity to the virus is due to our immune system being very strong for our age. This immunity dissipates over time as the living being grows older.

Unfortunately, with our tribe infected, no one is taking care of restocking supplies. Despite Ay's remarkable work, managing an entire tribe is impossible. Gwen's help is not enough to handle this overwhelming workload.

Darkness falls in the evening. Maïko gathers all the orphans around a small campfire to urgently discuss the situation with us.

_ Maïko: “ Thanks for coming. Okay, I'll get straight to the point, our tribe is going to be in deep trouble. ”

Eyebrows raised, curiosity piques us.

_ Maïko: " Right after I left the infirmary a few days ago, I forgot to pick up my hair curler. As I turned around, I heard Ay say something disturbing at the door. “ she said, her head bowed

_ Hazel: ” What did she say? "

Everyone holds their breath.

_ Maïko: “ She said that in a few days, she'll be out of stock of the medication. So if an infected person still hasn't been treated by then, they'll be dead. ”

The news hits us hard.

_ Shailly: “ That's horrible! ” she says, both hands pressed against her mouth.

_ Jenna: “ I'm... I'm scared! ”

Each of them begins to feel frightened by the situation, and despair slowly begins to set in.

_ Orphan 1: “ In that case, we have to go exploring ourselves and get some medicine bags. ” he says without hesitation.

Kona stands up abruptly, frowning.

_ Kona: “ What? ”

Another orphan replies in a calm and relaxed tone.

_ Orphan 2: “ Whoa, Brent, are you sure that's a good idea? ”

_ Brent: “ Do you have a better idea, Taïga? ”

_ Ayden: “ Brent and Taïga. They're the last two orphans who left right after Shailly's confrontation with the guardian Keren. I've noticed that they're always together. ”

Kona waves his hands frantically.

_ Kona: “ But that's crazy! I'm reminding you that outside, the virus is spreading! ”

Brent fixes Kona with his piercing eyes and speaks his words in a firm tone.

_ Brent: “ So you'd rather we just sit back and do nothing? While our tribe is being decimated? ”

_ Kona: “ I didn't say that, and anyway, we're not allowed to leave the village. ”

_ Brent: “ So what? The chief is sick now, so the rule no longer applies. ”

With a rigid posture, rage rises in Kona, his jaw clenched.

_ Maïko: “ Stop it, both of you! This isn't the time. ”

Kona regains his place, regaining his composure.

_ Hazel: “ What is certain is that a solution must be found as soon as possible. ”

_ Taïga: “ The advantage with this virus is that we are immune. ”

_ Kona: “ Even so.. .”

_ Taïga: “ Despite everything, Kona is right, it's still too dangerous. ”

A dark look is cast.

_ Brent: “ Hey, which side are you on? ”

An enigmatic smile sweeps Taïga away.

Maïko's mouth opens slightly, her fist resting on her other hand.

Eyes begin to sparkle.

The other twin stands up in turn, her gaze icy.

_ Kaya: “ So, you want us to take the risk of going on an exploration when there's no guarantee that there will be medicine there? ”

With a sudden movement, Maïko positioned herself in front of Shailly.

_ Maïko: “ Why are you attacking him? It's not even his idea. ”

_ Kaya: “ It doesn't matter, basing something on uncertainty is ridiculous. ”

With her fist clenched, Maïko seethes and takes a step forward.
