Chapter 185:

Chapter 185: A Truce Forged in Mutual Annoyance (at Rui, Mostly)

I Didn't Know My Sister is a Famous Cosplayer

Izumi's unexpected mediation continues, and it is a masterclass in psychological manipulation disguised as helpful advice. She somehow manages to validate each girl's feelings while simultaneously highlighting the absurdity of their current approach.

"Rina-san," she says, her tone surprisingly empathetic. "Your devotion to your brother is… formidable. Truly. That level of loyalty is rare. But," she adds gently, "sometimes loyalty can become… suffocating? Maybe give him a little breathing room? Let him miss you?" Rina looks momentarily thoughtful, before scowling again.

"Haruka-san," Izumi continues, turning her attention to the ice queen. "Your logical, strategic approach is admirable. Very efficient. But emotions are rarely logical. Trying to force a rational decision in an irrational situation can backfire. Perhaps consider the 'human element'?" Haruka raises a skeptical eyebrow but does not immediately object.

"And Aiwa-san," Izumi finishes, her voice softening slightly as she looks at the still-flustered Aiwa. "Your feelings are clearly genuine. Your connection is deep. But sometimes… patience is a virtue. Let things unfold naturally. Trust the process." (Easy for her to say, she is not the one living in this pressure cooker).

She is playing them like a fiddle, appealing to their core personalities, subtly shifting their focus away from demanding an immediate choice from me and towards… well, mostly towards being confused by Izumi herself.

"So," I interject warily, sensing a potential escape route. "Are we saying… the ultimatum is off? For now?"

"It seems… premature," Haruka concedes reluctantly. "Further data analysis is required."

"Fine," Rina grits out, clearly unhappy but unable to argue against Izumi's strangely compelling logic (and Haruka's agreement). "Temporary suspension of the 'Choose Now or Suffer' protocol. But," she glares at me, "the surveillance continues."

"And the schedule remains in effect," Haruka adds firmly.

"O-okay," Aiwa whispers, looking relieved but still confused.

Izumi just smiles, looking pleased with her handiwork. She has successfully de-escalated a potential nuclear situation, confused her primary rivals, and positioned herself as a neutral, insightful observer, all without revealing any of her own secrets. She is terrifyingly good at this.

"Well," Izumi says brightly, finishing her now-cold coffee. "My work here is done. Just happened to be passing by, glad I could help defuse the… intense study session." She gives me another one of those enigmatic winks. "Try not to cause any more international incidents before dinner, Rui-kun."

She turns to leave, but Kenji, who has been watching the entire exchange with wide-eyed fascination (and possibly taking detailed notes for his "Team Rui" log), suddenly leaps forward.

"Wait! Izumi-san!" he calls out.

Izumi pauses, turning back with a raised eyebrow.

"Your wisdom is profound!" Kenji declares dramatically. "Your insight into the complex dynamics of the human heart is unparalleled! You must join us! Become an official consultant for Team Rui! Share your strategic brilliance!"

Izumi just looks at him, then at the rest of us, a slow, amused smirk spreading across her face. "Tempting," she says cryptically. "Very tempting. But I prefer to maintain… plausible deniability." She gives a final, mysterious wave and disappears out the door, leaving behind a room full of bewildered teenagers and the lingering scent of expensive coffee and manipulation.

A fragile, deeply suspicious truce has been forged, not out of friendship, but out of mutual confusion and a shared, grudging acknowledgement that Izumi Sato is a force to be reckoned with. And possibly slightly evil.
