Chapter 1:
I Just Want to Quit This Magic School, But They Won’t Let Me: The Cursed Dragon Arm That Devours My Magic
It was a bright, clear morning at Tokyo Magic Academy—the kind of day that should’ve felt full of promise.
New students were chatting, laughing, making friends, and exchanging introductions in the courtyard.
Everyone looked excited.
Everyone except Tendou Kanata.
He walked through the crowd with his usual bored expression, his black hair messy as ever, hands in his pockets. He could already feel the whispers following him like mosquitoes.
“Hey… isn’t that the guy who destroyed his old school?”
“Sssh! Don’t talk so loud! What if he hears you?”
“I really hope I’m not in his class… he gives me chills!”
Ah… the usual welcome party.
Kanata sighed inwardly and kept walking. At least they’re consistent.
He didn’t care. In fact, he was counting on it.
If everyone avoided him, it’d make his plan easier—cause some trouble, get expelled, and walk out free.
Inside the classroom, the atmosphere wasn’t much better.
Almost every seat was taken except for one—way in the back, beside the window.
Perfect.
But as soon as Kanata sat down, he could feel eyes stabbing into him again.
“Why’s he even here?”
“Don’t sit too close…”
“I heard he made a whole lab explode just by sneezing.”
Kanata rolled his eyes.
Yeah, right. If only I were that impressive.
Then, unexpectedly, someone spoke up beside him.
“Hey there! I’m Rio Tanaba. Nice to meet you!”
Kanata blinked.
A cheerful guy with brown hair, green eyes, and round glasses was smiling at him.
He didn’t seem scared at all.
“…You do know who you’re talking to, right?”
“Of course! The same as me—a hopeless case!”
Kanata raised an eyebrow.
“Hopeless case?”
“Yup! I can’t use magic either.”
For the first time that day, Kanata almost laughed.
Well, that’s new.
Later, during Magic Power Measurement, excitement filled the room.
Students lined up to touch a crystal sphere that glowed according to their mana strength.
“Wow, look at that! He got a C-rank already!”
“Mine’s B-plus! Not bad!”
Then came Rio’s turn.
The sphere shone bright green—strong, stable, impressive.
“W-wait, you said you couldn’t use magic!” Kanata whispered.
“Ahaha, well, maybe I just can’t cast spells. Mana’s fine!”
Great, Kanata thought. Even the “hopeless” ones are overqualified here.
Then the teacher called out:
“Tendou Kanata, you’re next.”
Kanata walked up, expression blank.
“Place your left hand on the orb and channel your energy.”
He obeyed.
Seconds passed.
Nothing. Not even a flicker of light.
Whispers spread again.
“See? He’s got nothing.”
“So the rumor was true.”
Kanata smiled faintly.
Perfect. No mana, no future. That means I’m out of here.
“Yosh aa …” he muttered under his breath, barely holding back a laugh.
The teacher sighed.
“Alright, next—”
But then—
the orb trembled.
“H-huh?!” the teacher stammered. “It’s… reacting?”
The gentle vibration turned into a violent shake.
The crystal’s glow pulsed, expanding with a deep, rhythmic hum.
“Get back!”
Before anyone could move—
CRAAAAASH!
The sphere shattered into thousands of pieces, scattering mana dust across the entire room.
Students screamed. Some ducked under desks.
Kanata stood frozen, staring at his hand.
Oh no.
I just wanted to fail the test… not explode the equipment.
“Damn it… I got carried away!” he groaned, gripping his face.
The classroom was a mess.
And the measurement device? Completely destroyed.
Silence followed—then chaos.
“He broke it!”
“He actually broke it!”
“That’s not even possible!”
Rio just sighed beside him, a mix of awe and pity.
“Congrats, Kanata… I think you just scored perfect.”
“…I hate this place.”
That evening, word spread through the academy like wildfire.
A new student had shattered the measurement orb for the first time in history.
Far away, in a quiet house in the countryside, Tendou Kaname sipped her tea and smiled.
“Hahaha! I knew it! That boy’s power is beyond anything this academy can handle!”
Her laughter echoed through the room, while back at the academy, Kanata could only groan.
And in the shadows of the school’s upper halls, four figures turned their heads at once—
the Four Witches of Tokyo Magic Academy.
Their eyes gleamed with interest.
The boy who tried to fail his entrance test… had just become their next target.
