Chapter 0:
Protecting the World from a Demon Cat!
How do I always gets myself into trouble?
When my friends invited me to go to a museum with them, I wanted to say no. After all, I'm the girl who got nicknamed 'fumbler' all throughout middle and high school. Who knows what kind of trouble I'd get myself into, what I'll break?
Nevertheless, I agreed.
It was going to be a quick trip, I promised. We'd look at some things, have a snack, and then leave. And I'd stay as far away as possible from any precious artefacts.
Easier said than done.
The place was crowded. No matter how hard I tried, I was at least two feet from a disaster. Every time I'd try to step away, the crowd would always push me back. I just wanted to leave before anything bad happened.
Too bad.
We were heading to look at the next artefact, when another girl came rushing in the opposite direction. Her arms were crammed full of papers and I don't think she could see what was going on in front of her.
And then we collided.
We crashed right into the glass display case of a cat statue I'd never even noticed. The whole thing shattered. And the most astonishing part was that the statue actually dashed away.
"Oh my word, I'm so sorry!" The girl was trying to help me up, ignoring her papers, which were strewn everywhere.
"It's fine, I'm alright," I replied.
"And now I know I'll get in trouble for releasing the demon cat!"
"The... what?"
"The cat statue! It contained a demon cat from another world, and now..." She was sobbing. "I-I'm sure I'll have to take care of it, and I can b-barely take care of myself!"
"Hey, why do you have to take care of it?"
She looked at me incredulously, then went back to sobbing. "I-It's a rule. The one who released it is... is t-the one who has to t-take care of it."
Suddenly, I found myself saying, "It's alright, I can do it." I wanted to eat my words right up.
"R-Really? You'd d-do that?"
"Yeah, it's fine with me."
"T-Thank you so much!" She hugged me, super tightly. "There's nothing much you need to do. Just catch it and keep its talisman on its head and it will be like any other cat you've kept before."
I've never kept a cat, but there's no way I'm telling her that. So I just nodded and went to grab the cat.
But both of these things were easier said than done, I soon realised.
Maybe next time I'll think more about my decisions.
