Chapter 1 :Beginning

Tears of life

The sounds and delicious aromas of my mother cooking dinner came from the kitchen. I, however, was in the living room, playing with the red toy car my father had just given me, racing it quickly across the carpet. The "vroom" sound its wheels made blended with the sound of the real cars in my dreams. "When I grow up and get my first salary, I'm definitely buying a car," I murmured to myself. Whenever my dad heard this dream of mine, he would laugh, ruffle my hair, and say, "Son, you can't buy a car with just one paycheck." But I used to think his words were just one of those inexplicable jokes adults tell.
My little sister, Merve, who was stretched out on the sofa, must have been tired from running around all day, as she was sleeping peacefully. The slight snoring sound coming from her nose was like part of the symphony of happiness that filled our home. It was in moments like these that I wished my life would always be like this. Safe, warm, and everything in its place...
Just then, my father, who was sitting in his armchair, suddenly sprang up like an arrow shot from a bow and ran to the kitchen, to my mother's side. There was a worry on his face that I had never seen before. His eyebrows were furrowed, his face had turned pale. "Did something happen to Mom?" I thought to myself for a moment.
Succumbing to my curiosity, I approached them. At the entrance to the kitchen, I heard the sentence my father anxiously whispered into my mother's ear: "Our region has been declared a 'red zone'..."
"A red zone? What does that mean?" I wanted to ask, but my voice failed me. At that moment, my father's phone rang. He answered it and started talking rapidly. Just then, from outside, came a deafening, heart-shattering sound: BOOM! Then another: BOOM!
The sound was so powerful that the windows shook, the ground trembled. Merve woke up in fear and ran to us, crying. I was also terrified out of my wits. My heart was pounding as if it would leap out of my chest. What was happening? Where were these terrible sounds coming from?
Without wasting a second, my mother and father knelt down and hugged us tightly. Then they quickly took us to the bathroom. My father stepped out for a moment and returned with a few bottles of water. "Stay as low as possible, keep your heads down!" he urged in a panicked voice. Why was he asking us to do this? I was trying to think of it as a game, but the fear inside me screamed that this was not a game.
"Dad, what's going on? Why are we in the bathroom?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"I'll tell you later, son," he said briefly. The tremor in his voice frightened me even more. My dad was the strongest man in the world! This was the first time I had seen him so anxious. This meant things were very bad.
"Mom," I whispered into my mother's ear, "Why is Dad so scared?"
My mother, her eyes filled with tears, said, "Because he's worried about you, my dear. Because he's afraid of losing you. You'll only understand this when you become a father yourself."
I didn't understand anything. I was just scared.
And then, it happened... With a horrible, moaning rumble, the building began to shake. It was as if the end of the world had come. A scream, a cloud of dust, chaos... The lights went out. The walls were shattering, pieces of concrete were raining down on us. I was so frightened...
Then, the most terrifying moment of my life came. The bathroom ceiling collapsed with a crash, and its heaviest parts fell right onto my mother. Mom! My mother was being buried under the rubble right before my eyes!
With all the fear inside me, I screamed at the top of my lungs: "DAD! DAD!" But there was no answer. Only the echo of my scream, trapped in the rubble...
The building had completely collapsed. I was trapped in a tiny space, imprisoned in darkness. My voice trembling, I shouted, "Mom! Dad! Merve!" But there was only silence. I had seen my mother under the rubble, but I didn't want to believe it. This had to be a dream!
The ground shook once more. I wanted to cry, but my tears had frozen from fear.
I felt my head with my hands. I touched something soft. As my eyes tried to adjust to the darkness, I slowly began to make out its shape... And at that moment, my heart shattered. What I saw was my father's upper body...
My father and mother had died. Both had died before my eyes.
I want to scream! I want to shout! But no sound comes out."What did we do to deserve all this, Mom? What did we do, Dad?"
