Chapter 27: The Cards

Nad said, "Give me the scissors."

One of the workers handed them over. Nad cut the third item.

Nad said, "All done."

Ivore laughed. He said, "It is no use. You can't just bring them back."

Nad said, "There is a possibility."

Nad told Ivore the sites were ready. Nad tried to smile but when he looked at his grandsons and at Oen'r, Enam, and Haare the smile faded.

Nad pulled out a remote. He said, "Everyone pick up a random card."

Ivore said, "Do as he tells you."

One by one every man picked up a card.

Nad said, "You can get a medal out of these cards. Cut your skin with it and that will write your name on the card. Then put it in these holes and you will receive a badge of fifteen thousand years."

Nad thought to himself, "Why am I even telling these guys the truth?"

Ivore said, "What did you say? Fifteen thousand what?"

Nad's heart started racing. He said, "Fifteen thousand migsles."

Ivore said, "What is migsles?"

Nad said, "It is the quality of this thing."

Everyone put their cards in. A badge appeared.

Nad said, "Before you lie inside the bed can anyone of you put my grandsons' cards in?"

Four men came and picked up the bodies of Nik and Tacrc.

Nad whispered, "Thank you so much."

Nad said, "This is a very big number of people. You might not all end up in one place. And one more thing — there are forty-six other people already inside this place."

Ivore stood up. He said, "Nad let's have a chat."

Both of them walked to a corner of the room.

Ivore said, "What are you not telling me?"

Nad said, "That is everything there is to know."

Ivore punched the wall in frustration.

Then he walked to the Animus and closed his eyes. All of them entered a dark place. A hole opened in the sky and every player was thrown to a random location.

When Ivore was falling toward the ground he made a strong punch downward. He thought it would give him a safe landing. But when his fist hit the ground it broke his entire arm.

Ivore was unconscious.

When he woke up it was night. He looked at his left hand. It was gone.

Ivore looked calm for a moment. Then he looked around. Nobody was there.

Then he screamed.

Ivore said, "UHHHUHUHUHU! DAMN IT! DAMN DAMN DAMN!"

This place felt like hell.

Somewhere else in the Animus Maelis said, "This man is going to show you to your room."

Orvian and Asual said, "Finally! I have been waiting for this to happen."

Butler 09244 said, "Follow me."

All thirteen of them followed the butler. They went straight. Then took a left. Then up the stairs. Then right. Then another left. Then straight again. Then left once more.

The butler stopped. He said, "Here. This is your room."

Asual thought to himself, "How are we going to leave this place? It is more like a puzzle."

They all went to sleep.

Much later Mateo woke up. He thought about what the Chief had said. He thought to himself, "Is that assassin really back? The one who took my parents from me?"

The next day Luar opened the door.

Asual screamed, "STOP RIGHT THERE!"

Everyone got scared.

Asual said, "You fool! Do you know how hard it was to get here? We have to wait for someone to escort us to the exit!"

Luar said, "Forgive me."

Mateo thought to himself, "I can't let this guy have the high ground. But he is still the leader of this sorry little group. Whatever."

The butler appeared again. He said, "Can you follow me?"

Everyone followed him to the royal dining hall. There were many sweets, soft butter, and all kinds of food spread across the table.

Asual said, "Look at this food! It makes me want to eat it all!"

Mateo said, "When is the king going to show?"

Ofurd said, "He has been sitting there since the start."
