Chapter 0:
Petals to Pedals
Before someone can become an idol, they have to understand three things, and joining the industry will make them very clear.
One, you can kiss your favorite snacks goodbye. Liquid dieting, as I like to call it, will keep your body pristine for the media. Having a sexy, young-looking body is everything when it comes to being considered a 'top idol.'
Two, training will become increasingly difficult as you grow in popularity. I can't tell you how many times I've seen members come and go, only to be hospitalized for chronic fatigue and mental stress. That's half of the reason I consider myself lucky for having a frail, sick younger brother. It's easy to skip practice to care for him.
Three, and probably the most difficult for some people my age: You can't have a spouse or go on a date until your contract is either terminated or you plan to destroy your reputation. Obsessive fans can get really jealous over petty stuff like that. Personally, I think it has to do with maintaining a pure and innocent persona.
I wish I had given more thought to my dreams before I signed my contract. I miss eating takoyaki with my friends, and the sweet taste of Calpico after a day of riding my bike through the countryside. I miss that cute little chubbiness near the bottom of my abdomen and the way it made me feel more human when I went to the beach. Due to the rules of my contract, I can no longer enjoy the sunshine near the ocean, as anything beyond perfectly pale skin would destroy my entire career in a heartbeat.
I want to ask myself where it all went wrong, but those kinds of questions don't sit well with me. For now, I'll just obey the industry with a smile on my face.
