Chapter 3:
INYO: In a world split by brilliance and shadow, only balance kept peace alive.
Today, Akari reached class earlier than usual. She remembered the argument she had with her mother.
“She’s doing the same thing again… trying to make decisions without talking to me,” she murmured to herself — only to realize she wasn’t the only one who had arrived early that day.
“You’re early too, Yami.”
“I had something I wanted to talk to you about, Akari.”
“Me too. You first.”
“Akari, leave this to me. I can handle it alone. I know exactly why you came back here. Your mother is right — you shouldn’t get involved in thi—”
“You too? If you’re only going to say that, then I’m not going to listen—”
“Yami, good morning! You’re early today.”
“Lower your voice, Yuki.”
She lost her chance to say something very important to Yami.
Soon, classes began. As usual, Akari was all alone the whole time. She planned to eat lunch alone again, but a voice suddenly called out to her.
“Akari, come to the rooftop.”
Yuki’s voice was so soft that only Akari could hear it.
It had been the night before, when Yuki was returning from somewhere.
“I’m late today… Mom’s going to be angry,” he thought..
“How does these Shirokami and Kurokami power works .I want to see them with my own eyes.” he said to himself when it was like god actually heard his wish when he saw his own friend Yami using white magic.
“Yami is a Shirokami?” he was halfway processing this truth while another mountain fell on him when he saw Yami using black magic too to kill another strong Yokai simultaneously.

“Why are you talking to me knowing who I am?”
“That’s exactly why I am talking to you. I have something to tell you.
Yami can use both magic. Yami is a Kurokami who can use Shirokami powers too. I can’t tell you how and why I know this much detail, but trust me. I know what happens to those who can use both magic.”
“How do know this much” Akari asked
“Like I told you, it’s not the time for that. You know him right.”
“Now how do you know that?”
“It’s obvious by just looking.” Yuki with a face like it was so normal
“This man is dangerous”. Akari thought.
“I have one request, please save hi—“
“I came here for that only because I already know everything. You don’t have to worry”.
“You already know? And how are you going to save him?”
“Leave that to me. We should head back before anyone see us.”
“Akari..tell me whenever you need help.”
Akari just looked at him with a gentle smile and murmured to herself, “you should worry about yourself.”
Classes continued as usual, but Akari was only present there physically. Her eyes were fixed on the blackboard, but her mind drifted far away. She was murmuring to herself,
“How can someone who isn’t part of any clan know that Yami is a Kurokami with Shirokami powers and not the reverse…?”
“Akari… Akari…”
“Don’t tell me—”
“AKARI!”
“YES!”
“Please read from page 49.”
“Yes… From long ago, there have always been humans with magic powers. They live among us like any normal person. They laugh with us, live with us. They are the chosen ones to protect the citizens of our country. It’s their duty to die protecting everyone. The dark magic, which is considered evil, will destroy anything that comes between them and peace, and the light magic will compensate for the destruction by creation. Therefore, they both are important and should exist in harmony.”
The school bell rang.
“Thank you. Today we will cover up to here.”
Akari sat still for a moment, her fingers lightly gripping the textbook. The sunlight filtered through the classroom windows, catching dust in the air.
“Why did Sir ask me to read this page of history?” she said to herself with a doubtful look. Her heart gave a strange throb, as if someone was trying to remind her of something she had forgotten.
School was over. Some students were excited for their after-school plans, some had club activities, but Akari had something very different in mind. She had to practice her magic powers — with only one goal in her heart.
She rushed home but unfortunately missed the chance to tell Yami what she was going to say earlier that morning.
“It’s okay. I’ll tell him tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Yami also wanted to talk, but Akari had already left.
“It’s okay. I’ll ask her tomorrow.”
Neither of them knew that tomorrow wouldn’t come as peacefully as they hoped.
What will the awaited tomorrow bring with it? Will it come like always?
