Chapter 22:
A-Academy: Five Celestial Guardians
A-Academy – Training Hall
The next morning, Aihana walked toward the training hall with the other girls. The space was vast and bright, the high ceilings echoing faintly, as if the room itself were alive with energy. A twinge of nerves hummed beneath her skin, mingling with excitement.
At the doorway, Rei waited. His aura seemed stronger than usual—steady and commanding.
“Good morning,” he said. “Today, each of you will show Aihana something different. Each of you will demonstrate your power so she can understand what it truly means to be a Guardian. Aihana, watch carefully. Learn.”
Before the girls could respond, Rei held out his hand. Tiny glimmers of light danced over his palm, forming delicate, jewel-like watches. “I’ve prepared something for each of you,” he explained. “These are more than simple timepieces. They allow instant communication, alert you to attacks, and more. Consider them tools—and symbols of your bond as Guardians.”
Each girl accepted her watch with awe, fastening it around her wrist. Aihana’s fingers brushed hers, feeling a subtle warmth, almost alive. A faint pulse echoed in her chest—an unfamiliar, comforting rhythm.
Then the girls lined up.
Aihana stood in the center, following every movement—
Hikari’s fire flared,
Sora’s wind danced,
Mizuki’s water flowed like something alive,
Kaori’s earth pulsed steady beneath their feet.
Each element resonated through her—heat, chill, clarity, grounding.
Rei shifted his gaze toward her.
“Now you, Aihana. Don’t worry. This isn’t a test. Just feel.”
She closed her eyes… but nothing happened.
A faint crease formed between Rei’s brows. He studied her, intense yet calm, the room holding its breath. He already knew the answer. He had known for days. But he wanted confirmation.
His aura brushed hers softly, testing the edges of her energy like a violinist checking a final string.
Aihana opened her eyes, cheeks red with frustration.
Rei softened his voice. “Don’t worry. It will awaken when the time is right.”
From behind, Akihiro spoke, quiet and steady: “Don’t give up, Aihana. I know you can do this.”
Their eyes met. Something deep inside her shifted.
A spark. A pulse. A whisper she had never heard before.
“I’ll try again,” she breathed.
She closed her eyes and reached inward—past her heartbeat, past her fear—toward a warmth buried deep. A glow stirred in her chest, soft at first, then brighter, blossoming until it filled her completely.
Rei lifted his hands, raising a protective barrier around the others.
“Aihana,” he said, voice low, ceremonial, “your element…”
Her eyes opened just as Rei finished: “…is love.”
“Love?” she whispered.
Rei’s gaze locked onto her, firm and focused, searching for any trace of doubt. Then he exhaled and nodded. “Love.”
Aihana glanced at Akihiro—his quiet strength, his calm certainty, the voice that had lifted her when she nearly faltered. Heat rushed through her chest. Pressure spiked, rising faster than she could breathe.
“No, no, no—” she whispered.
And then—
BOOM.
A burst of rose-gold light exploded from her core, rippling across the hall like a shockwave. Flower petals lifted from vases. Dust sparkled like suspended stars. The floor pulsed softly under a heartbeat-driven rhythm.
Akihiro instinctively stepped forward, aura shielding him. Rei only smiled—not mockingly, not surprised, but with the calm satisfaction of someone who had awaited this exact moment.
“Yes,” he murmured. “Exactly that. Love.”
The other girls reacted: Sora muttered something sharp; Mizuki gasped; Kaori stepped back; Hikari froze.
Aihana stood in the center, mortified, energy fluttering wildly around her like a veil she couldn’t lower.
Rei glanced at Akihiro, lifting one eyebrow—a silent, knowing message. Akihiro didn’t speak, but the tension in his jaw said enough. This was no ordinary element.
Rei stepped forward, touching her shoulder gently. “Don’t be afraid. This is only the first step.”
A-Academy Garden – Noon
The girls sat on benches, surrounded by birdsong and flowers swaying in the breeze. They were tired but glowing with excitement.
Akihiro approached, Rei beside him. “Well done. Each of you improved today.” His gaze lingered on Aihana. The air seemed to hush.
“And you, Aihana. Your power has only begun to surface, yet you’ve already produced something extraordinary.”
The girls cheered. “It was beautiful!” “You lit up the whole hall!”
Aihana flushed. “But… I almost put you all in danger…”
Akihiro shook his head gently. “Power grows wild at first. With time, it becomes something magnificent.”
A small smile tugged at her lips. Akihiro dipped into a slight bow, cloak rippling, then walked with Rei back toward the Academy.
The girls watched him leave. Sora raised an eyebrow; Mizuki giggled; Hikari nudged Aihana; Kaori smiled quietly.
Aihana stared at the flowers, cheeks warm, heart beating a new rhythm. Something had awakened in her—and not just her power.
A-Academy - Living Room – Evening
Firelight flickered across the room. Candles glowed on low tables. The girls lounged on pillows, sipping tea, wrapped in a rare moment of calm.
Mizuki sighed dreamily. “I have to admit something. I really like Rei.”
The others didn’t look surprised.
“We know,” Sora teased. “Your face glows every time he walks in.”
Mizuki blushed. “He’s just… warm. And kind.”
Aihana nearly dropped her cup. “Rei…?”
Kaori added, “It’s obvious he listens when you speak.”
Aihana’s thoughts drifted—to encouragement, to the voice that had steadied her. Her heart thrummed harder.
Hikari nudged her. “Looks like someone else is falling too.”
Aihana flinched, face aflame. “Me? I—what—?”
The girls exchanged knowing glances but backed off gently.
“We won’t pry,” Hikari said softly.
“But we’re here,” Kaori added. “Always.”
Aihana lowered her gaze. The simple warmth of their acceptance made something inside her loosen. For the first time in days, she felt understood.
Control Hall Balcony
Rei stepped onto the balcony, cloak brushing over marble. Akihiro stood at the railing, gaze fixed on the garden below, posture calm yet faintly tense.
“Interesting, isn’t it? Our little Guardian of Love,” Rei said quietly.
Akihiro didn’t look at him. “Her power is awakening. That is what matters.”
Rei leaned back, mischievous. “Awakening, yes… but love is dangerous. Powerful. Unpredictable. It affects those around it.”
Akihiro’s expression didn’t change, but the air tightened.
“We remain focused on training,” he said. “Nothing else.”
Rei chuckled softly. “Of course. But love bends rules before anyone notices.”
Akihiro’s jaw tensed slightly.
Rei’s smile widened, satisfied. He stepped away, cloak whispering behind him, leaving Akihiro alone with thoughts he kept hidden from everyone—including himself.
