Chapter 1:
Only Students in the Building
Damian Allrien walked through the halls of Lakin High School. He strolled through the halls to his next class, science.
“Proffesor Ogden’s assignment was a killer, eh Damian,” said Damian’s best friend, Trey Orilan.
“Yeah! Writing a ten page essay on why Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is supported by modern science was a toughie,” replied Damian.
“And then we had to create an appealing science fair board, to support our theory!” complained Trey.
“I was awake all last night finishing,” griped Damian.
“Proffesor Ogden is such a jerk,” finished Trey.
Damian and Trey walked in silence for a few more minutes before entering Professor Ogden’s class.
Damian took his seat at the back of the class and took out his note book.
“Class. Today is the day you have been dreading, Essay Test Day. You will be handing in your essays before taking a test, worth fifty percent of your grade, on what you learned while writing your essay,” said Professor Ogden, plainly. Groans arose from the crowd of twenty two seventeen year olds. It’s just like old Oggy to assign a test after having you write a test.
Suddenly the P.A. spoke up, “Staff as well as students grade ten and under please exit the building through the main exit, thank you for your co-operation.” Weird thing to tell the staff, but I ain’t complaining Principal Taraki, you do you, and I’ll skip my Science Test.
“Well that’s my que, please stay seated, class,” said Professor Ogden.
After several minutes had passed a mechanical whirring sound hummed through the building. Damian looked out of the window and saw a glass dome being lowered onto the school.
Damian shot up from his seat, “Hey! There’s a dome being lowered onto the school!” yelled Alfonse Strumbel.
“What? Hey you’re right,” Jerry Helbet. Also looking out the window.
The P.A. started once more, “Hello and welcome to Fell Corp’s Social Experiment. Your school has been selected to be trapped in a dome for the next month. In that time you must survive. Your internet will be shut off. Killing is not permitted. If at any time you wish to return home you may ask your nearest ‘Question Box’. Be advised that the final student in the building will win ten million dollars. Thank you and good luck.” With that it shut off.
“Hey! I don’t want to be trapped in school for a month! I don’t care about the ten million dollars, I want out!” yelled Lorenze Marke. What! Trapped in school for a month! That’s terrible! I am going straight to the Question Boxes!
Damian stormed out of the classroom turning into the halls, he located the nearest Question Box and abruptly turned it on. A single message appeared: Leave?
“Yes! I want to leave,” said Damian. At those words the lights flickered off, a loud bwoo emanated through the halls, bouncing off the walls. Another message appeared on the box, Cannot Leave. Power In Building Off. Cannot Leave. Player ‘Damian Allrien’.
“The power is out?” Damian asked himself.
Trey came running into the halls. “Dude! P.A. came back on and some guy said that the power wasn’t supposed to go out and now we’re trapped in here until Fell Corp can get us out! Bobby went crazy and started attacking people! People have started making teams! We’re doomed! There’s only so much food in this place, and I think the ‘no killing’ rule is about to get awfully lax,” panted Trey.
“Calm down Trey, it can’t be that bad,” said Damian, peeking his head into the classroom. Inside he saw carnage, people were attacking each other left and right using scissors and staplers as weapons, but the most deadly of them all was Bobby Allbright, who was wielding half of a broken desk and already had a bloody person below him. “It is that bad…” murmured Damian.
“That’s what I was talking about, people here are going insane!” nervously whispered Trey.
“Trey, want to team up. So. you know, we don’t get instantly killed,” Damian said to Trey.
“Yeah, let’s do that, no one gets killed, you know,” said Trey. The two of them made a pact that day, never to betray each other.
