Chapter 10:

Do Not Anger The Captive! Er, Guest! 🖤

❣️They Told Me "Keep The Talisman On Its Forehead" But It Keeps Falling Off!?!❣️

I now understand why my ancestors invented curses…. It’s to use on foxes!

The morning sunlight filters through the ritual hall, illuminating my personal nightmare. The helper boy. Or rather, my stray pet… Now fully human, fully awake, fully smirking… and not keeping still!

‘Stop smiling,’ I hiss.

‘I can’t help it. You look cute when you’re mad. I get giggly.’

‘Stop breathing, then.’

He stops moving, only to put a sad puppy face on. Which, unfortunately, do trick me.

Awww… Sorry…

‘Hehe!’ He says, with a resounding :3 on his face after seeing my remorseful face.

‘Oh give me a break!’ This rascal.

The talisman is supposed to stay centered on his forehead, right where the sealing mark pulses faintly. Right now, it’s halfway down his nose.

‘Why do they even fall off?!’ I mutter, pressing it back with a long wooden ladle (I’ve upgraded from a pole).

He walks to the edge of the barrier and leans forward slightly, probably had his fill of grumpy Melodette.

‘Why thank you!’ I spit.

‘Static electricity, maybe.’ He eventually responded.

‘This isn’t science class, this is exorcism!’ I spit. ‘What do you know about science anyways!? You’re not a scientific being! You’re a spiritual one!’

My aunties peek through the screen door, whispering and giggling.

‘I told you she’d last only one day before talking to him like a wife,’ Cousin Eula says.

‘I can hear you!’ I shout, slamming another talisman onto his arm for good measure.

‘Love tap?’ he teases.

‘Exorcism tap,’ I correct.

‘Where is grandma anyways? What is the deal with keeping this one alive?’ I face to ask my relatives outside. A question which made them laugh, along with our friendly captive.

‘Huh? Did I miss anything? Why is everyone on friendly terms now?’

As I am saying this, a few male cousins go in and seat in front of our “guest”. They all sit, my cousins and guest, on the floor, facing each other, and starts to play a card game… My mouth is on the floor and I stare for what seems like 5 minutes, as they laugh and jest and get along, as if all is well in the world.

‘I WAS JUST LATE IN WAKING UP!’ I scream, which scares my male cousins enough to back off a bit, but our captive remains unfazed. He gestures to a cousin to take the next card. As my cousin is about to pick one up, I run over and slap it off his hands.

‘Don’t ignore me!’ I raise my voice at my cousins. They look terrified of me. Good. But they look elsewhere and they look much more terrified. Horrified even.

I follow their line of sight and see that our friend in the barrier is trembling and slowly releasing dark aura.

He is he looking straight at me.
