Chapter 33:

Wings In The Night

A-Academy: Five Celestial Guardians

Blades clashed, sparks slicing the night air. Akihiro and Rei froze mid-strike, their energy swords locking as red alerts pulsed violently on their wrists. The city’s distant hum, usually comforting, now pressed against them like a living weight, charged with imminent danger.

“Attack… near the Academy, Tama City,” Akihiro murmured, voice taut with urgency. Rei’s playful glint vanished, replaced by razor-sharp focus.

The alarms on wrist watches shattered the calm of the evening chatter. Sora’s hand flew to her wrist instinctively. “Attack… near the Academy,” she whispered, voice trembling slightly yet steady. Her hair lifted, stirred by a phantom wind, and her stomach knotted with anticipation. We can’t fail. Not here, not now.

Mizuki pushed off the couch, muscles tense but controlled, water-energy already humming faintly along her arms. “We move now,” she said, forcing determination over the tremor in her chest. Kaorii planted her feet, grounding herself, eyes narrowing at shadows that seemed to crawl along the walls. “No hesitation,” she murmured, scanning each corridor, sensing the tension in every corner. Hikari’s chest flickered with flame, coiling like a storm trapped inside glass. “Ready,” she muttered, jaw tight, nostrils flaring at the acrid scent of smoke seeping through the doors.

Aihana’s pulse raced in rhythm with the alerts. Her love-energy throbbed in her chest, instinctively spilling outward like molten gold. Her hands trembled slightly as she inhaled deeply. We can’t wait. Not now. Blue-gold eyes shone with fear and determination, catching the reflected red lights.

The Academy itself seemed to shift. Hallways stretched, stairs appeared steeper, shadows deeper. Every stone vibrated, every corner thrummed, as if the building itself braced for the chaos descending from the city. In a sudden shimmer, sleek light armor materialized on the girls, tracing the contours of their powers: wind twisting around Sora, water rippling along Mizuki, earth grounding Kaori, flame licking Hikari, and golden love-energy radiating from Aihana.

“Quickly!” Akihiro’s voice cut through the tension, commanding but threaded with worry.

Above, angels descended silently, wings slicing through the night like liquid light. Rei lifted Mizuki, holding her securely as they ascended. Akihiro cradled Aihana, their auras entwining—her love-energy reinforcing his protective field, warmth radiating outward. Sora soared with Ayame, Karoi with Daichi, Hikari with Kaito; each pair moved in harmony, wings catching glimmers of neon and starlight.

Beneath them, Tama City writhed in chaos. Streets narrowed under black-red energy, neon flickering against smoke and fire. Vehicles were overturned, civilians scattered, shadows twisting through alleys like living ink, puppeteering humans with cruel tendrils. The epicenter was unmistakable: a street by the Academy, asphalt cracked and glinting in reflections, debris scattered, fires sputtering, terror radiating outward. The air smelled of burned rubber and smoke, hot gusts carrying ash and sparks to their faces.

Sora unleashed a gust of wind, tossing demons into lamp posts and walls. Mizuki’s water surged in protective arcs, sweeping away shadow threads from trapped civilians. Kaori’s connection to the ground cracked asphalt beneath advancing demons, tripping them mid-charge. Hikari’s flames shot forward in disciplined arcs, forcing shadows to retreat or burn harmlessly.

All eyes turned to Aihana. Her golden aura flared outward, stabilizing terrified civilians. Kneeling over a child, she raised her hands, weaving a dome of love-energy shimmering like molten sunlight. Warmth radiated outward, tangible and protective. Stay calm, stay strong… she whispered, though fear clawed at her chest.

Then the ground trembled. Three massive winged demons descended, claws wrapped in shadow threads, eyes molten red-black, fixated on Aihana. The child’s scream froze in the air.

Even above, a whisper cut through the chaos—cold and merciless. “Get her. At any cost.” Ravukaru’s will guided the demons with deadly precision.

Akihiro’s stomach twisted. He knew what this meant. If they reached Aihana… she could be captured, corrupted, or worse. I can’t let that happen. Panic coiled in his chest, but he forced himself to breathe, to focus. Every instinct screamed: protect her at all costs. Every swing of his sword of light had to be perfect. Every movement could be the difference between life and death. Stay sharp. She’s counting on me…

The dome flared as shadows pressed inward. Akihiro roared, voice cracking with fear and determination. “Aihana!” He swung his sword in wide, precise arcs, severing tendrils before they could touch her. Sparks bounced off walls, neon, and puddles, illuminating chaos in fractured brilliance. Rei followed, golden light flashing in controlled bursts, slicing through descending demons.

Sora’s wind tugged smaller shadows off balance; Mizuki’s water swept in arcs, clearing civilians; Kaori’s earth trembled beneath foes; Hikari’s flames disciplined the advancing dark. Each girl’s powers intertwined, a chaotic ballet of elemental fury, fear, and focus.

Aihana’s heart pounded as she reinforced the dome. The largest demon lunged, wings spanning the street, shadow threads curling around her waist. Knees buckled slightly under the strain as the child clung to her. I can’t fail… not now…

Akihiro surged forward, aura exploding like a storm. “Hold on!” he roared. Rei spun downward in golden arcs, slashing at diving demons. Claws struck walls, debris rained down—but the dome endured, fragile yet unbroken.

The massive demon struck again. Akihiro collided with it, energy flaring, tendrils snapping. Rei severed wings and dark threads. Ayame entangled smaller demons, Daichi’s fire spiraled to intercept strikes aimed at civilians, Kaito’s shield enveloped the group. Akihiro’s thoughts raced: I can’t let Ravukaru take her. I won’t let anything happen to her.

Aihana summoned her remaining strength. The dome blazed brighter than ever, forcing the demon to retreat with a screech that split the night. Breathless, she hugged the child tightly. Eyes met Akihiro’s—fear, relief, unspoken gratitude passing silently.

Remaining shadows faltered. Civilians collapsed, freed from shadow threads. Streets glowed with neon and embers, chaos receding.

Aihana sank to her knees, child safe in her arms. Akihiro knelt beside her, hand on her shoulder, aura still flowing. “You’re safe now,” he whispered, voice taut with emotion.

Rei landed nearby, grin breaking through exhaustion. “Not bad for a night’s work.”

Other angels descended and turned into human forms. Akihiro looked at girls, eyes heavy but proud. “Well done. All of you. Especially you, Aihana.”

Sora, Mizuki, Kaori, and Hikari stood back, breathless but victorious, returned to normal clothes. Each had shaped elements, protected civilians.

The city was scarred, streets smoking, yet eerily calm. Distant sirens and neon hum filled the night.

The Erasers and Repairers moved with quiet grace, restoring overturned vehicles, extinguishing fires, straightening debris. Gentle pulses of light erased fear and trauma from civilians’ minds, leaving them unaware of the night’s horrors.

The girls’ auras glimmered softly—a testament to courage, skill, and unwavering resolve. At the center, Aihana’s golden glow shone brightest, a beacon of hope and love amid Tama City’s urban chaos.
