Chapter 23:
Decodol
An unexpected side effect of the drama was Yuto and Jun’s encounter. If Sakuya had fallen for Kana pretty quickly, the other’s attraction had been immediate, electric and especially: mutual.
Visually, they made an interesting pair. Jun was tall and thin, his baby-blue hair making his striking facial features softer. He was muscular, though not in an obvious way. Yuto, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as tall, but broad and more heavy-set. His head of curly, dark hair made him look like a puppy.
At least that’s what Jun thought as he looked at the man, who had become his defacto boyfriend within just two weeks. They were sitting in the living room of ‘Candy Apple’s dorm, both working on their respective assignments. Yuto had a habit of sitting on the floor, legs crossed, laptop on a cushion. He was coding… something for his graduation paper. Jun didn’t actually understand it. He was sitting on the couch behind Yuto, studying the video with the new dance steps for their debut single, now that there were only two people left in the band.
Well, they wouldn’t be re-debuting any time soon. The legal case was ongoing, which gave them a rare episode of peace and relaxation. This was the third time they had met up at the dorm to work next to each other, enjoy each other’s presence and closeness.
Yes, there had been immediate attraction between them, but what had surprised Jun even more was the fact that they could be just comfortable around each other, as if they’d known the other forever and not just a few weeks.
“It’s nice having you here… the place is pretty quiet now,” Jun said into the silence.
Yuto didn’t look back at him, but his posture changed to a more alert position. “Beats the library. I can eat whenever I want, there’s no weird people and best of all, I can curse out loud.”
“No weird people? I guess Sakuya is at Kana’s place more often than not now.”
“Mhm.”
“Jealous?”
At that, Yuto did look back over his shoulder. “Why should I be? Our friendship has endured worse enemies than this.”
“Enemies, huh?”
Jun put his tablet away and laid down on the couch, so that his head was beside Yuto’s. He reached out and twirled a bit of his hair round his finger. The natural curls fascinated him endlessly. Yuto hummed contently and his fingers stilled.
“Done with your work?” Yuto asked.
“I’m never done. But I can prioritise,” Jun said.
“Well, then show me what you’ve learned.”
“Oh? A private performance? I don’t think you can afford that.”
Yuto closed his laptop and put it on the table. He turned around to face Jun.
“I happen to know you’re easy to bribe.”
“Is that so?”
Yuto put a hand in Jun’s hair and leaned closer to kiss his forehead. Then his nose. Then his lips. Jun sighed blissfully. They traded affections for a while, slow and unhurried.
“Alright, alright. You got me. But these are steps for a duo, so you’ll have to help me.”
Yuto let himself be pulled upwards, and into the free space in the living room.
“I’m not a dancer.”
“Don’t worry,” Jun said and wrapped an arm around Yuto’s waist. “I’ll show you what to do.”
